The physiotherapy has an important role in the health promotion and autonomy for the elderly, and the healthcare system should be able to provide adequate support for older age groups. Objective: The objectives of this cross-sectional study were to determine the lifetime prevalence of physiotherapy utilization among elderly users (60 years of age or more) of primary healthcare facilities in Ribeirão Preto, Brazil, and to investigate its association with variables such as sex, age, educational level and socioeconomic status. Methods: Data were collected during face-to-face interviews. Participants were invited to participate in the study while they waited for their medical appointment in a primary healthcare facility. Log-binomial regression models were used for adjusting the data. The sample was composed of 224 (63%) women and 133 (37%) men. Results: Overall, 141 (39.5%) individuals reported undertaking physiotherapy sessions some time along their lifetimes. The prevalence of physiotherapy utilization among women was 42.0% (95% CI: 35.4 - 48.7) and among men was 35.3% (95% CI: 27.2 - 44.1). The utilization of physiotherapy was more frequent among elderlies who had health insurance coverage, higher socioeconomic status and higher educational level. This suggests that some groups of population have more access to physiotherapy due to a higher capacity to pay for healthcare when compared to uninsured people. Conclusion: The participation of physiotherapists in the primary care setting should be encouraged, in order to reduce inequalities in access to such resources

Background: Despite the consensus regarding the existence of a relationship between “impacts on oral health” and “health-related quality of life”, this relationship, considering the latent nature of these variables, is still poorly investigated. Thus, we performed this study in order to determine the magnitude of the impacts of oral health, demographic and symptom/clinical variables on the health-related quality of life in a Brazilian sample of dental patients. Methods: A total of 1,007 adult subjects enrolled in the School of Dentistry of São Paulo State University (UNESP) - Araraquara Campus for dentistry care between September/2012 and April/2013, participated. 72.4 % were female. The mean age was 45.7 (SD = 12.5) years. The Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) and the Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) were used. The demographic and symptom/clinical variables collected were gender, age, economic status, presence of pain and chronic disease. The impact of studied variables on health-related quality of life were evaluated with a structural equation model, considering the factor “Health” as the central construct. The fit of the model was first analyzed by the evaluation of the goodness of fit indices (χ 2 /df ≤ 2.0, CFI and TLI ≥ 0.90 and RMSEA < 0.10) and the evaluation of the variables’ impact over health-related quality of life was based on the statistical significance of causal paths (β), evaluated by z tests, for a significance level of 5 %. Results: We observed adequate fit of the model to the data (χ 2 /df = 3.55; CFI = 0.95; TLI = 0.94; RMSEA = 0.05). The impacts on oral health explained 28.0 % of the variability of the health-related quality of life construct, while the total variance explained of the model was 39.0 %. For the demographic and symptom/clinical variables, only age, presence of pain and chronic disease showed significant impacts (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The oral health, age, presence of pain and chronic disease of individuals had significant influence on health-related quality of life.São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP

The aim of this study was to estimate the reliability, validity and factorial invariance of the Portuguese version of the Geriatric/ General Oral Health Assessment Index (GOHAI) as applied to Brazilian women. A total 701 women over 18 years of age participated in this study. Telephone interviews were conducted. We evaluated the construct-related validity through factorial, convergent and discriminant validity. We carried out a confirmatory factor analysis using the χ2/df, CFI, GFI and RMSEA indexes. The invariance of the model in a second independent sample was estimated by multi-group analysis and internal consistency using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. Items 5 and 9 presented factor weights below the adequate value and were removed. The three-dimensional and unifactorial model presented an adequate fit. We observed strong factorial invariance of the models in two independent samples (three-factor: ρλ = 0.62; pCov = 0.89, one-factor: ρλ = 0.81; pCov = 0.68) and weak factorial invariance between users and nonusers of dental prosthetics (threefactor: ρλ = 0.55; pCov = 0.01, one-factor: ρλ = 0.51; pCov = 0.02). The convergent validity was suboptimal. Internal consistency was adequate. The GOHAI applied to the study sample showed adequate reliability, factorial validity and stability in independent samples and between users and nonusers of dental prosthetics in both the threedimensional and the unifactorial structures

ABSTRACT: The objective of this study was to describe the health situation regarding the pandemic of COVID-19 and its coping strategies among residents of the Mário Lago Settlement, belonging to the Fazenda da Barra Sustainable Development Project (PDS) located in Ribeirão Preto, state of São Paulo. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive, survey-type study with stratified random sampling. A total of 158 residents, aged between 18 and 84 years, were interviewed between October 26, 2021, and January 28, 2022. The results obtained expose a situation of social vulnerability of its population, in which only 23.4% of the interviewees reached high school, and 95.6% have a family income of up to three minimum wages. Among the study participants, 17.1% tested positive for a COVID-19 test, and 42.4% reported that the pandemic significantly decreased household income, while 3.8% were left without income. In order for the settled populations to be better prepared for future crises such as the one caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is necessary to continue the actions already taken by the social and popular movements in the countryside and ensure the maintenance and development of social support networks. Internet data collection is becoming increasingly popular in all research fields dealing with human perceptions, behaviors and opinions. Advantages of internet data collection, when compared to the traditional paper-and-pencil format, include reduced costs, automatic database creation, and the absence of researcher-related bias effects, such as availability and complete anonymity. However, the validity and reliability of internet gathered data must be established, in comparison to the usual paper-and-pencil accepted formats, before an inferential analysis can be done. In this study, we compared questionnaire data gathered from the internet with that from the traditional paper-and-pencil in a sample of college students. The questionnaires used were the Maslach Burnout Inventory – Student Survey (MBI-SS), the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory (OBI-SS) and the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI-SS). Data was gathered through a within-subject cross randomized and counterbalanced design, on both internet and paper-and-pencil formats. The results showed no interference in the application order, and a good reliability for both formats. However, concordance between answers was generally higher in the paperand- pencil format than on the internet. The factorial structure was invariant in the three burnout inventories. Data gathered in this study supports the Internet as a convenient, user-friendly, comfortable and secure data gathering method which does not affect the accepted factorial structures existent in the paper format of the three burnout inventories used

During their undergraduate course, dentists need to be aware about the risk they are exposed to in their work environment so they can avoid them. Thus, we proposed a TV newscast entitled "Ergonews" which was presented to the 2nd-year undergraduate Dentistry students at Araraquara Dental School – UNESP, in order to expand and enhance their knowledge in the discipline of Ergonomics in Dentistry I. The newscast has included a reporter and a "philosopher", the latter having the function to issue philosophical opinions not always correct about the concepts of ergonomics. The topics covered were: i. the importance of rationalizing work to increase productivity and quality of life of the dentists; ii. requirements of ergonomic posture, occupational health, and the importance of cross infection control in dental practice; iii. dental equipment and delegation of functions - four hands work. Each “Ergonews” episode was prepared previously to the class and all recordings were edited using the Movie Maker. The newscast was presented to students during the Ergonomics in Dentistry I classes, every 15 days, using multimedia projection, with an average duration of 10 minutes. After the presentation of each "Ergonews" episode, students were asked to evaluate critically the concepts of ergonomics issued by "philosopher" in the newscast. It can be concluded that the "Ergonews" was an auxiliary method to promote learning about ergonomics in dentistry.

Background: This study investigated the attitudes and practices of Brazilian adults regarding the mandatory COVID-19 vaccination and their hesitancy towards the vaccination of children. Methods: Between March and May 2022, Brazilian adults answered an online questionnaire distributed through social media. The SAGE-WG questionnaire was adapted to measure hesitancy to the vaccination of children. Results: Of the 1007 participants, 67.4% believed that adult COVID-19 vaccination should be mandatory. Just over half of the participants (51.5%) believed that parents and/or guardians should decide if their children should be vaccinated against COVID-19 or not and 9.1% were unsure. Individuals who were younger, non-religious and had higher awareness of COVID-19 risks and critics of the federal government’s performance in combating the pandemic were more likely to agree with mandatory adult vaccination. However, less agreement among parents and/or guardians concerning children’s vaccination was observed, with lower scores for hesitancy to the vaccination of children. Conclusion: In Brazil, there is still far from a consensus on mandatory COVID-19 vaccination for adults and a significant proportion of the population believes that parents and/or guardians should be free to decide on their children’s vaccination. These views are associated with age, religion, knowledge of COVID-19 risks and political inclination
