    Get PDF

Lattice microstructure design for cathode electrodes for high-performance lithium-ion batteries

    Get PDF
The electrode geometry is an essential parameter affecting the cycling performance of batteries. In this work, the effect of lattice geometry of the cathode electrode on battery performance was studied by theoretical simulations keeping its volume constant. It was observed that the variation of the lattice geometry improves the cycling performance when compared to conventional planar geometry. The improvement of the cycling performance in the lattice geometry is related to variations in the electrolyte current density. It was demonstrated that the lattice geometry allows to improve the discharge performance in lithium-ion batteries at higher discharge rates.511F-603F-4B30 | Francisco MirandaN/

Objective: To grasp the meaning of the attending to youth who attempted suicide for the pre-hospital nurse and analyze how that meaning can influence the treatment of these young people. Method: An exploratory and descriptive study, with qualitative approach. Research participants were nine nurses who fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Results: From the analysis there emerged three categories: Significance of care to young suicidal; Feelings of nurses to meet a young suicide; Influence of significance in attending a young suicide and its relation to professional conduct. Conclusion: Attending a young suicide has special meaning to the study subjects and awakens feelings such as anxiety, sadness, fear and suffering. The prehospital nurse shows itself compromised in the patient care and family, regardless of the nature of the occurrence, however, puts the fact of suicide as relevant to the care provided

Software tools for conducting real-time information processing and visualization in industry: an up-to-date review

    Get PDF
The processing of information in real-time (through the processing of complex events) has become an essential task for the optimal functioning of manufacturing plants. Only in this way can artificial intelligence, data extraction, and even business intelligence techniques be applied, and the data produced daily be used in a beneficent way, enhancing automation processes and improving service delivery. Therefore, professionals and researchers need a wide range of tools to extract, transform, and load data in real-time efficiently. Additionally, the same tool supports or at least facilitates the visualization of this data intuitively and interactively. The review presented in this document aims to provide an up-to-date review of the various tools available to perform these tasks. Of the selected tools, a brief description of how they work, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of their use, will be presented. Furthermore, a critical analysis of overall operation and performance will be presented. Finally, a hybrid architecture that aims to synergize all tools and technologies is presented and discussed. This work is funded by “FCT—Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia” within the R&D Units Project Scope: UIDB/00319/2020. Sexual dysfunction in breast cancer survivors: cross-cultural adaptation of the sexual activity questionnaire for use in Portugal

    Get PDF
Introduction: The increasing survivor population of breast cancer has shifted research and practice interests into the impacts of the disease and treatment in quality of life aspects. The lack of tools available in Portuguese to objectively evaluate sexual function led to the development of this study, which aimed to cross-culturally adapt and validate the Sexual Activity Questionnaire for use in Portugal. Material and Methods: The questionnaire was translated and back-translated, refined following face-to-face interviews with seven breast cancer survivors, and then self administered by a larger sample at baseline and a fortnight later to test validity and reliability. Results: Following cognitive debriefing (n = 7), minor changes were made and the Sexual Activity Questionnaire was then tested with 134 breast cancer survivors. A 3-factor structure explained 75.5% of the variance, comprising the Pleasure, Habit and Discomfort scales, all yielding good internal consistency (Cronbach’s α > 0.70). Concurrent validity with the FACt-An and the BCPT checklist was good (Spearman’s r > 0.65; p-value 0.444). The Sexual Activity Questionnaire allowed the identification of 23.9% of sexually inactive women, for whom the main reasons were lack of interest or motivation and not having a partner. Discussion: Patient-reported outcomes led to a more comprehensive and improved approach to cancer, tackling areas previously abandoned. Future research should focus on the validation of this scale in samples with different characteristics and even in the overall population to enable generalizability of the findings. Conclusion: The adapted Sexual Activity Questionnaire is a valid tool for assessing sexual function in breast cancer survivors in Portugal

Paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM) is a systemic granulomatous disease caused by Paracoccidioides brasiliensis, prevalent in Latin America, particularly in Brazil. Central nervous system (CNS) involvement occur in about 10% of cases. Thirteen patients with PCM involving CNS were studied considering clinical manifestation, neuroradiology and treatment modalities. Age ranged from 30 to 71 years-old (M=47.1 +/- 11.6 Me=46). There were eleven men and two women. the most frequent symptoms were motor deficits (53.8%), cognitive disturbance (53.8%), weight loss (46.1%), headaches (46.1%) and seizures (46.1%). the diagnosis was confirmed by the demonstration of P. brasiliensis. Granulomatous forms were present in all patients. Four (30.8%) of them had also meningeal involvement (mixed form). Computerized tomography (CT) scans were obtained in all cases and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was used in one case. Serology for HIV was done in ten patients (76.9%), and all the tests were negatives. Amphotericin B was used in twelve patients (92.3%), one of them by intraventricular infusion. in eight patients (61.5%), trimethopim and sulfamethoxazole were used, and, in two (15.4%), sulfadiazine and pirimetamine. Fluconazole, ketoconazole and itraconazole were each one used in a different patient as well. Six patients died (46.1%) and seven (53.9%) had satisfatory outcome. the follow-up period ranged from 2 to 74 (M=30.9) months. in conclusion, the CNS involvement in paracoccidioidomycosis is more frequent and more serious than thought before. the clinical manifestations, CT scans and MRI findings are not specific of paracoccidioidomycosis.Clin Neurol & Neurocirurgia Santa Casa Belo Horiz, Belo Horizonte, MG, BrazilMestre Med Santa Casa Belo Horizonte, Belo Horizonte, MG, BrazilUNIFESP, Escola Paulista Med, São Paulo, BrazilServ Neurocirurg Santa Casa, Belo Horizonte, MG, BrazilUniv Fed Minas Gerais, Dept Bioquim & Imunol, Inst Ciencias Biol, Belo Horizonte, MG, BrazilPrograma Pos Grad Santa Casa, Belo Horizonte, MG, BrazilUNIFESP, Escola Paulista Med, São Paulo, BrazilWeb of Scienc
