Finite Model Properties for Residuated Semigroups

We have a quick look at various finite model properties for residuated semigroups. In particular, we solve Problem 19.17 from Relation Algebras by Games by Hirsch and Hodkinson

Lower semilattice-ordered residuated semigroups and substructural logics

We look at lower semilattice-ordered residuated semigroups and, in particular, the representable ones, i.e., those that are isomorphic to algebras of binary relations. We will evaluate expressions (terms, sequents, equations, quasi-equations) in representable algebras and give finite axiomatizations for several notions of validity. These results will be applied in the context of substructural logics

Hatalmi távolság és intézményi kollektivizmus – a versenyképesség előrejelzése szövegelemzéssel (Power distance and institutional collectivism – Forecast of competitiveness by text analysis)

A tárgyalófelek elé kitett mobiltelefon alkalmazása előrejelzi a beszélgetőpartnerek versenyképességét a versenyképesség-mutatók alapján, javaslatokat adva a tárgyalás további menetére. Ez a vízió nyilván még futurisztikus, ám a csúcsvezetői nyilatkozatok rejtett szövegtartalma alapján következtetéseket levonni a képviselt szervezetek versenyképességi orientációira – ez már ma lehetőség. A GLOBE-projekt kultúrakutatási módszertanával, valamint szövegelemzési módszerekkel sikerült kimutatni a versenyképességet előrejelző hatalmi távolság és az intézményi kollektivizmus szövegbeli jeleit. Mindez eszközt jelenthet egyebek mellett a szervezetfejlesztéssel, hírszerzéssel, HR-gazdálkodással foglalkozó szakembereknek is. _______ The use of the mobile telephones laid in front of the negotiators during their conversations forecasts their indicators of competitiveness and gives suggestions for the further course of negotiation. This is obviously a futuristic vision, but drawing conclusions from the hidden content of top management narratives concerning the competitive cultural orientations of the represented organizations is a possibility that is already available. Using the culture research methodology of the GLOBE project as well as text analysis methods, it was possible to reveal narrative patterns both of the power distance, forecasting competitiveness, and of institutional collectivism. These findings may be useful tools for professionals, among others of organizational development, intelligence service and HR management

Undecidable relativizations of algebras of relations.

In this paper we show that relativized versions of relation set algebras and cylindric set algebras have undecidable equational theories if we include coordinatewise versions of the counting operations into the similarity type. We apply these results to the guarded fragment of first-order logic

Bioerosion and bioturbation of a weathered metavolcanic rock (Cretaceous, Czech Republic)

The locality of Marsovicky Hill (N Bohemia, Czech Republic) yielded an example of a Cretaceous sea-bottom composed of Nametarhyolite. Two types of trace fossils penetrate the substrate, namely Thalassinoides isp. and ?Gastrochaenolites isp. Thalassinoides originated presumably in a firmground, i.e. the metavolcanite had to be "delithified" in some patches and subsequently rehardened again. ?Gastrochaenolites isp. is interpreted as a boring trace of decapods.La localidad de Marsovicky Hill (Norte de Bohemia, República Checa) permite estudiar un ejemplo de un fondo marino cretácico compuesto de Na-metariolitas. Dos tipos de trazas fósiles penetran el substrato: Thalassinoides isp. y ?Gastrochaenolites isp. Thalassinoides se originó probablemente en un substrato firme, es decir que la metavolcanita se habría "deslitificado" en algunas zonas y posteriormente se habría vuelto a endurecer. ? Gastrochaenolites isp. se interpreta como un traza de bioerosión de decápodos

The equational theories of representable residuated semigroups

We show that the equational theory of representable lower semilattice-ordered residuated semigroups is finitely based. We survey related results

The finite representation property for composition, intersection, domain and range

We prove that the nite representation property holds for rep- resentation by partial functions for the signature consisting of composition, intersection, domain and range and for any expansion of this signature by the antidomain, xset, preferential union, maximum iterate and opposite opera- tions. The proof shows that, for all these signatures, the size of base required is bounded by a double-exponential function of the size of the algebra. This establishes that representability of nite algebras is decidable for all these signatures. We also give an example of a signature for which the nite repre- sentation property fails to hold for representation by partial functions
