EpIGâDB: A database of vascular epiphyte assemblages in the Neotropics
Vascular epiphytes are a diverse and conspicuous component of biodiversity in tropical and subtropical forests. Yet, the patterns and drivers of epiphyte assemblages are poorly studied in comparison with soilârooted plants. Current knowledge about diversity patterns of epiphytes mainly stems from local studies or floristic inventories, but this information has not yet been integrated to allow a better understanding of largeâscale distribution patterns. EpIGâDB, the first database on epiphyte assemblages at the continental scale, resulted from an exhaustive compilation of published and unpublished inventory data from the Neotropics. The current version of EpIGâDB consists of 463,196 individual epiphytes from 3,005 species, which were collected from a total of 18,148 relevĂ©s (host trees and âunderstoryâ plots). EpIGâDB reports the occurrence of âtrueâ epiphytes, hemiepiphytes and nomadic vines, including information on their cover, abundance, frequency and biomass. Most records (97%) correspond to sampled host trees, 76% of them aggregated in forest plots. The data is stored in a TURBOVEG database using the most upâtoâdate checklist of vascular epiphytes. A total of 18 additional fields were created for the standardization of associated data commonly used in epiphyte ecology (e.g. by considering different sampling methods). EpIGâDB currently covers six major biomes across the whole latitudinal range of epiphytes in the Neotropics but welcomes data globally. This novel database provides, for the first time, unique biodiversity data on epiphytes for the Neotropics and unified guidelines for future collection of epiphyte data. EpIGâDB will allow exploration of new ways to study the community ecology and biogeography of vascular epiphytes

Proceedings of the Fifth Italian Conference on Computational Linguistics CLiC-it 2018
On behalf of the Program Committee, a very warm welcome to the Fifth Italian Conference on Computational Linguistics (CLiC-Ââit 2018). This edition of the conference is held in Torino. The conference is locally organised by the University of Torino and hosted into its prestigious main lecture hall âCavallerizza Realeâ. The CLiC-Ââit conference series is an initiative of the Italian Association for Computational Linguistics (AILC) which, after five years of activity, has clearly established itself as the premier national forum for research and development in the fields of Computational Linguistics and Natural Language Processing, where leading researchers and practitioners from academia and industry meet to share their research results, experiences, and challenges

Impairment of lymphocyte activities in depressed aged subjects
Lymphocyte activities were determined in a population of 26 institutionalized aged subjects, selected as healthy according to the SENIEUR protocol and previously reported to display immunological and endocrinological abnormalities correlated with depressive disorders. The lymphocyte mitotic response to PHA, which was reduced in aged as compared to adult subjects, was found to be significantly lower and negatively correlated with the depression score in the elderly subjects. In supernatants of PHA-stimulated lymphocyte culture from aged subjects, IL-2, IL-4 and γ-IFN levels were very low and more severely affected in the depressed aged group. Each cytokine production was negatively correlated with age and depression score. NK activity was lower in the aged and it could be augmented by the addition of IL-2 or α-IFN, even though to a lesser extent than in the adult subjects. The nondepressed aged display higher levels of IL-2 inducible NK activity than the depressed aged subjects. IL-2 and α-IFN stimulated NK activities were negatively correlated with depression score. The present work indicates that the psychological status could affect lymphocyte reactivity in the aged. Given the relatively high frequency of affective disorders in these subjects, the psychological status should be considered in studies of immune senescence
Notulae to the Italian native vascular flora: 9
In this contribution, new data concerning the distribution of native vascular flora in Italy are presented. It includes new records, confirmations, exclusions, and status changes to the Italian administrative regions. Two new combinations are proposed. Nomenclatural and distribution updates, published elsewhere, and corrigenda are provided as Suppl. material
