Two dimensional V2O3 and its experimental feasibility as robust room-temperature magnetic Chern insulator
The possibility of dissipationless chiral edge states without the need of an external magnetic field in the quantum anomalous Hall effect (QAHE) offers a great potential in electronic/spintronic applications. The biggest hurdle for the realization of a room-temperature magnetic Chern insulator is to find a structurally stable material with a sufficiently large energy gap and Curie temperature that can be easily implemented in electronic devices. This work based on first-principle methods shows that a single atomic layer of V2O3 with honeycombâkagome (HK) lattice is structurally stable with a spin-polarized Dirac cone which gives rise to a room-temperature QAHE by the existence of an atomic on-site spinâorbit coupling (SOC). Moreover, by a strain and substrate study, it was found that the quantum anomalous Hall system is robust against small deformations and can be supported by a graphene substrate.status: publishe
Cu and Fe oxides dispersed on SBA-15:a Fenton type bimetallic catalyst for N,N-diethyl-p-phenyl diamine degradation
A bimetallic oxidation catalyst has been synthesized via wet impregnation of copper and iron over a mesoporous SBA-15 silica support. Physicochemical properties of the resulting material were characterized by XRD, N2 physisorption, DRUVS, FTIR, Raman, SEM and HRTEM, revealing the structural integrity of the parent SBA-15, and presence of highly dispersed Cu and Fe species present as CuO and Fe2O3. The CuFe/SBA-15 bimetallic catalyst was subsequently utilized for the oxidative degradation of N,N-diethyl-p-phenyl diamine (DPD) employing a H2O2 oxidant in aqueous solution
Search for Eccentric Black Hole Coalescences during the Third Observing Run of LIGO and Virgo
Despite the growing number of confident binary black hole coalescences
observed through gravitational waves so far, the astrophysical origin of these
binaries remains uncertain. Orbital eccentricity is one of the clearest tracers
of binary formation channels. Identifying binary eccentricity, however, remains
challenging due to the limited availability of gravitational waveforms that
include effects of eccentricity. Here, we present observational results for a
waveform-independent search sensitive to eccentric black hole coalescences,
covering the third observing run (O3) of the LIGO and Virgo detectors. We
identified no new high-significance candidates beyond those that were already
identified with searches focusing on quasi-circular binaries. We determine the
sensitivity of our search to high-mass (total mass ) binaries
covering eccentricities up to 0.3 at 15 Hz orbital frequency, and use this to
compare model predictions to search results. Assuming all detections are indeed
quasi-circular, for our fiducial population model, we place an upper limit for
the merger rate density of high-mass binaries with eccentricities at Gpc yr at 90\% confidence level.Comment: 24 pages, 5 figure
Binary phase diagram of tetraethyl orthosilicate and carbon dioxide
Phase equilibrium data for the system tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS)-carbon dioxide (CO2) are presented. The measurements were conducted in a variable volume phase monitoring cell at different temperatures (306.2, 313.2, 323.2, 333.2, and 343.2) K. The mole fraction of TEOS in the binary mixture was varied from 0.00 to 0.08. The data were fitted using the Peng-Robinson equation of state. The model accounts for literature data on phase behavior over the entire composition range. © 2008 American Chemical Society.status: publishe
