Kinetic estimation of the adsorbate distribution on the surface from adsorbed amounts

    Get PDF
A phenomenological multilayer adsorption model for a well-dispersed, homogeneous, nonporous adsorbent and a molecular adsorbate is presented. The model provides explicit kinetic expressions associating the adsorbed amounts to the fraction of the surface occupied and reduces to the first- and second-order adsorption models for special cases. Parameters of the model are a pair of true rate constants related to the adsorbate-adsorbent and adsorbate-surface adsorbate affinities. A general graphical procedure and analytical equations for special cases are provided to estimate the rate constants from kinetic adsorption data. Data from the adsorption of sodium stearate onto α-alumina from water were used to test the model. The predicted values of the rate constants suggested that the stearate was distributed homogeneously on the alumina surface and essentially adsorbed as a monolayer before starting to form the second layer

Embodied carbon of structural systems in buildings has been established to be considerable and detrimental the environmental impact of the buildings. Structural materials use mostly natural resources. Large amounts of carbon are emitted into the atmosphere during the extraction, refinement, and installation of structural materials. Using cold-formed thin-walled steel sections as structural members provides a sustainable structures framework that reconciles initial environmental impacts of innovative, green materials and long-term durability for construction industry. This paper highlights a research on the development and implementation of a design algorithm to obtain cold-formed thin-walled steel sections in order to reach minimum frame weight while satisfying the constraints specified by design codes. Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) technique is used as a solution tool in improved design algorithm. This technique is a recent numerical optimization technique which mimics the intelligent behavior of honey bee swarm. The recent studies with the ABC method have shown its effectiveness and robustness in finding the optimum solution of combinatorial optimization problems. A design example is included to demonstrate the efficiency of the optimum design algorithm developed

The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between mental endurance and leadership levels of the candidates who are studying in Erciyes University School of Physical Education and Sports Inspection. The student's universe consists of 436 students of Physical Education and Sports. As means of data collection in the survey were used Mental (psychological) endurance scale, Leadership orientation scale and Personal information form. Statistical analyzes were performed with the SPSS 20.0 package of data obtained from Personal Information Form, Mental (Psychological) endurance and Leadership orientation scale. The personal information and inventory total scores and factor scores for the candidates were determined by determining frequency (f) and percent (%) values. Multiple regression analysis was applied to determine whether Pearson Moments Multiplication Correlation analysis (r) and their scores were predictive in order to reveal the relationship between scores obtained from the scales. (Β). While there is a low level of positive relationship between self-confidence and human resources framework and negative environmental and structural environmental scores, there was no significant relationship between attention control, visualization, level of motivation, positive energy and attitude control scores, structural environment, human resources framework, political environment and symbolic environmental scores. The model presents a meaningful relationship between negative energy and leadership orientations. When the t-test results on the significance of the regression coefficient are examined, structural environment leadership orientation, mental stability and 13% of the total variance. There was no significant relationship between self-confidence, attention control, visualization, motivation level, positive energy and attitude control, and leadership orientation, and mental stability was not predictive of leadership orientations. As a result; It is thought that the individuals with high mental stability show effective leadership behaviors and the positive attitudes and behavioral behaviors demonstrated by the leadership strengthen the mental endurance of the individuals

    Get PDF
Purpose: In this study, the clinical and radiological results of volar plating and arthroscopic intervention-assisted fragment-specific fixation techniques used in patients operated for AO Type B-C distal radius fracture in which the medial colon is affected were compared. Materials and Methods: X-ray and clinical records of 98 patients who underwent surgical treatment for radius distal end (DER) fracture between April 2011 and January 2017. The patient groups treated with arthroscopy-assisted fragment-oriented fixation (Group A) and plate screw fixation with a volar approach without arthroscopic intervention (Group B) were compared in terms of joint range of motion, grip strength, and clinical scores. Flexion and extension, ulnar deviation, radial deviation, pronation, and supination angles measured with a standard goniometer were recorded in the joint range of motion measurement. Grip strength was measured with a Jamar dynamometer for power measurement. DASH score was used in clinical evaluation. Results: When the operated wrists of both patient groups were compared, there was no significant difference between the DASH score, grip strength, palmar flexion, and pronation angles of motion. A statistically significant difference was observed between the mean dorsiflexion angles of 55 degrees in group A and 44 degrees in group B, mean radial deviation angles of 25 and 19 degrees, and the mean supination angles of 87 and 80 degrees, respectively. Conclusion: Although arthroscopic-assisted fragmentspecific fixation is technically a laborious procedure that requires a learning curve in patients with intra-articular distal radius fractures, it may be beneficial to provide better postoperative results, especially in young patients with high range of motion expectations

Influence of dispersing agents on the solubility of perovskites in water

    Get PDF
In this study, solubility behavior of lead magnesium niobate (PMN) powders in water was investigated in the presence of pure polyacrylic acid and polyacrylic acid/polyethylene oxide comb polymers. Experiments were performed by measuring the solubility of PMN in terms of the concentration of Pb+2 and Mg+2 ions in supernatant as a function of pH and dispersing agent dosage. The concentrations of the metal ions in supernatant were found to be affected by the dispersant concentration, stirring time and the suspension pH. Results revealed that both dispersing agents enhance the cation dissolution from PMN surface at pH 9 due to weak (reversible) adsorption and complexation of Pb+2 and Mg+2 by carboxylate groups. On the other hand, under acidic conditions cation dissolution from PMN is inhibited and this was attributed to the strong adsorption of dispersing agents onto the powder surface and formation of a dense polymer layer
