Electronic structure of Pr2MnNiO6 from x-ray photoemission, absorption and density functional theory

The electronic structure of double perovskite Pr2MnNiO6 is studied using core x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and x-ray absorption spectroscopy. The 2p x-ray absorption spectra show that Mn and Ni are in 2+ and 4+ states respectively. Using charge transfer multiplet analysis of Ni and Mn 2p XPS spectra, we find charge transfer energies {\Delta} of 3.5 and 2.5 eV for Ni and Mn respectively. The ground state of Ni2+ and Mn4+ reveal a higher d electron count of 8.21 and 3.38 respectively as compared to the atomic values of 8.00 and 3.00 respectively thereby indicating the covalent nature of the system. The O 1s edge absorption spectra reveal a band gap of 0.9 eV which is comparable to the value obtained from first principle calculations for U-J >= 2 eV. The density of states clearly reveal a strong p-d type charge transfer character of the system, with band gap proportional to average charge transfer energy of Ni2+ and Mn4+ ions.Comment: 18 pages, 9 figure

The experiment was conducted to the study the effect of different types of mulch on maize under guava based agri-horti system at Agricultural Research Farm of Rajiv Gandhi South Campus, Barkachha, Mirzapur. The experiment was conducted in complete randomized block design with nine treatments which were replicated thrice. These treatments were different types of mulch (at rate of 6 tons/hectare) that is, control (T 1 ), dust mulch (T 2 ), green weed mulch (T 3 ), kans grass (Saccharum spontaneum) mulch (T 4 ), legume mulch (T 5 ), paddy straw mulch (T 6 ), ridge sowing (T 7 ), subabul (Leucaena leucocephala) mulch (T 8 ) and wheat straw mulch (T 9 ). Mulch is directly related to growth, plant biomass and yield of maize. Results showed that application of different types of mulch gave varying yield. Lowest yield (36.75 q/ha) was obtained with the application of 0 tones/ha and highest yield (53.34 q/ha) was obtained with the application of paddy straw mulch. It is concluded that the application of legume mulch gave highest Benefit/Cost ratio of maize and more remunerative in Vindhyan region

Understanding of traditional knowledge and characterization of telesech- a fermented fish product of Tripura state

Fermented fish products are popular in the North east India because of their characteristic flavour and aroma. Telesech is a local name of salt-free fermented Setipinna phasa which is very popular amongst the people of Tripura in general. Higher cost of imported dry punti fish as well as high production cost and retail price of punti shidal necessitated the development of telesech from estuarine fish Setipinna phasa. The traditional method of its production has been studied and the biochemical, microbiological and sensory qualities of telesech has been evaluated. The pH, moisture, protein and lipid content of the product were found 6.21±0.13, 35.87±3.25, 28.38±0.63 and 16.98±1.71, respectively, indicated their stability at ambient temperature. The quality parameters like TVBN, AAN, PV and FFA showed a higher value. The total plate count and total fungal count were observed as 6.42 and 4.02 log cfu/g, respectively. Predominant groups of bacteria were identified as Staphylococcus sp. and Bacillus sp. A sufficient numbers of Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) were also found. The product telesech was found to be contaminated with Salmonella which indicates lack of hygienic condition in processing and retail centres. Organoleptically the product was acceptable as the overall acceptability score was found 7.5±0.37
