    In this note we correct a technical error occurred in [M. Torrente and M.C. Beltrametti, "Almost vanishing polynomials and an application to the Hough transform", J. Algebra Appl. 13(8), (2014)].     r-norm bounds and metric properties for zero loci of real analytic functions

    We consider the problem of deciding whether or not a zero locus, X, of multivariate real analytic functions crosses a given r-norm ball in the real n-dimensional affine space. We perform a local study of the problem, and we provide both necessary and sufficient conditions to answer the question. Our conditions derive from the analysis of differential geometric properties of X at the center of the ball. In this paper, we deal with two of the main steps of the Hough transform framework for the pattern recognition technique to detect loci in images. More precisely, we present an algorithmic process, based on the Moore–Penrose pseudo-inverse, to provide a region of analysis in the parameter space.     Teaching Practices for Creativity in Distance Higher Education

    Despite being a recurring theme in the debate on teaching practices, there are gaps about the main dimensions of creativity in the context of distance education. Therefore, this article aims to assess the perception of distance learning teachers regarding the extent to which they use teaching practices that favor the development and expression of student creativity, based on a validated scale (Alencar & Fleith, 2010). The study had a quantitative approach and 176 distance learning teachers and tutors from different educational institutions in Brazil were surveyed. The results obtained through structural equation modeling revealed that the dimensions’ incentive to new ideas, interest in student learning, diversified teaching strategies, climate for expression of ideas, and personal attributes favorable to teaching practice are related in a way positive and significant with creativity in distance education. Although not new when it comes to face-to-face education, these results, with regard to distance learning, are capable of inspiring alternatives to hybrid systems developed from the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, they help to better understand the dimensions and provide contributions to discussions on the development of creative practices in distance learning

    Embora a crise no abastecimento de água na Região Metropolitana de São Paulo (RMSP) tenha se manifestado de maneira mais intensa no verão de 2013-2014, ela revela um problema crônico que vem afetando toda a Região nos últimos dez anos. Esse problema foi gerado pela falta de um planejamento estratégico que considere questões climatológicas que podem indicar, com meses de antecedência, problemas de recomposição dos níveis dos mananciais, permitindo que ações sejam empreendidas com razoável antecedência, reduzindo os impactos para a população. Este estudo mostra como é possível utilizar informações climáticas na gestão estratégica do sistema de abastecimento da RMSP.Though the crisis in the water supplying system in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo (RMSP) was more intensively felt in the 2013-2014 summer, it reveals a chronic problem that has been affecting the whole RMSP for the past ten years. This problem is originated from the lack of a strategic planning that takes into consideration climate issues that could, months before, foresee problems to restore the levels of water resources, allowing measures to be implemented within a reasonable anticipation, therefore reducing the impacts on the population. This study shows how it is possible to use climate information in the strategic management of the water supply in the RMSP
