Skew-Unfolding the Skorokhod Reflection of a Continuous Semimartingale
The Skorokhod reflection of a continuous semimartingale is unfolded, in a
possibly skewed manner, into another continuous semimartingale on an enlarged
probability space according to the excursion-theoretic methodology of Prokaj
(2009). This is done in terms of a skew version of the Tanaka equation, whose
properties are studied in some detail. The result is used to construct a system
of two diffusive particles with rank-based characteristics and skew-elastic
collisions. Unfoldings of conventional reflections are also discussed, as are
examples involving skew Brownian Motions and skew Bessel processes.Comment: 20 pages. typos corrected, added a remark after Proposition 2.3,

Sensors for fruit firmness assessment: Comparision and fusion
Non-destructive measurement of fruit firmness is a difficult problem and many different sensors have been developed in order to achieve this task. Three different European laboratories were associated in collaborative experiments on peaches, to compare three different sensing techniques, namely, sound, impact and micro-deformation. A Bayesian classifier is associated with each individual sensor and provides a classification into three categories, namely “soft”, “half firm” and “firm”. The fusion of the different sensors is performed by using Bayesian classifiers associated with heuristic methods for identity fusion. The result of the identity fusion is compared with the classification provided by an unsupervised algorithm based on destructive measurements. The fusion process provides some improvement in the classification results. For the individual sensors, the error rate of the classification varied from 19 to 28%, but the fusion process reduced this to 14%. Moreover, all measures of agreement between sensors lead to the conclusion that fusing sensors is better than using individual sensor

Spin-phonon coupling in epitaxial Sr0.6Ba0.4MnO3 thin films
Spin-phonon coupling is investigated in epitaxially strained Sr1-xBaxMnO3 thin films with perovskite structure by means of microwave (MW) and infrared (IR) spectroscopy. In this work we focus on the Sr0.6Ba0.4MnO3 composition grown on (LaAlO3)0.3(Sr2AlTaO6)0.7 substrate. The MW complex electromagnetic response shows a decrease in the real part and a clear anomaly in the imaginary part around 150 K. Moreover, it coincides with a 17% hardening of the lowest-frequency polar phonon seen in IR reflectance spectra. In order to further elucidate this phenomenon, low-energy muon-spin spectroscopy was carried out, signaling the emergence of antiferromagnetic order with Néel temperature (TN) around 150 K. Thus, our results confirm that epitaxial Sr0.6Ba0.4MnO3 thin films display strong spin-phonon coupling below TN, which may stimulate further research on tuning the magnetoelectric coupling by controlling the epitaxial strain and chemical pressure in the Sr1-xBaxMnO3 system
Non-deterministic Boolean Proof Nets
16 pagesInternational audienceWe introduce Non-deterministic Boolean proof nets to study the correspondence with Boolean circuits, a parallel model of computation. We extend the cut elimination of Non-deterministic Multiplicative Linear logic to a parallel procedure in proof nets. With the restriction of proof nets to Boolean types, we prove that the cut-elimination procedure corresponds to Non-deterministic Boolean circuit evaluation and reciprocally. We obtain implicit characterization of the complexity classes NP and NC (the efficiently parallelizable functions)
Meteorite evidence for partial differentiation and protracted accretion of planetesimals.
Modern meteorite classification schemes assume that no single planetary body could be source of both unmelted (chondritic) and melted (achondritic) meteorites. This dichotomy is a natural outcome of formation models assuming that planetesimal accretion occurred nearly instantaneously. However, it has recently been proposed that the accretion of many planetesimals lasted over ≳1 million years (Ma). This could have resulted in partially differentiated internal structures, with individual bodies containing iron cores, achondritic silicate mantles, and chondritic crusts. This proposal can be tested by searching for a meteorite group containing evidence for these three layers. We combine synchrotron paleomagnetic analyses with thermal, impact, and collisional evolution models to show that the parent body of the enigmatic IIE iron meteorites was such a partially differentiated planetesimal. This implies that some chondrites and achondrites simultaneously coexisted on the same planetesimal, indicating that accretion was protracted and that apparently undifferentiated asteroids may contain melted interiors
Magnetic anisotropy of epitaxial Co2Fe-Ge Heusler alloy films on MgO (100) substrates
Films of Co2Fe-Ge Heusler alloy with variable Ge concentration deposited on monocrystalline MgO (100) substrates by magnetron co-sputtering are investigated using microstructural, morphological, magnetometric, and magnetic resonance methods. The films were found to grow epitaxially, with island-like or continuous-layer morphology depending the Ge-content. The ferromagnetic resonance data versus out-of-plane and in-plane angle indicate the presence of easy plane and 4-fold in-plane anisotropy. The magnetometry data indicate additional weak 2-fold in-plane anisotropy and pronounced at low fields rotatable anisotropy. The observed magnetic anisotropy properties discussed in correlation with the microstructure and morphology of the films
