Noise suppression due to long-range Coulomb interaction: Crossover between diffusive and ballistic transport regimes

We present a Monte Carlo analysis of shot-noise suppression due to long-range Coulomb interaction in semiconductor samples under a crossover between diffusive and ballistic transport regimes. By varying the mean time between collisions we find that the strong suppression observed under the ballistic regime persists under quasi-ballistic conditions, before being washed out when a complete diffusive regime is reached.Comment: RevTex, 3 pages, 4 figures, minor correction

Effect of long-range Coulomb interaction on shot-noise suppression in ballistic transport

We present a microscopic analysis of shot-noise suppression due to long-range Coulomb interaction in semiconductor devices under ballistic transport conditions. An ensemble Monte Carlo simulator self-consistently coupled with a Poisson solver is used for the calculations. A wide range of injection-rate densities leading to different degrees of suppression is investigated. A sharp tendency of noise suppression at increasing injection densities is found to scale with a dimensionless Debye length related to the importance of space-charge effects in the structure.Comment: RevTex, 4 pages, 4 figures, minor correction

Serum proteomics of active tuberculosis patients and contacts reveals unique processes activated during Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection.

Tuberculosis (TB) is the most lethal infection among infectious diseases. The specific aim of this study was to establish panels of serum protein biomarkers representative of active TB patients and their household contacts who were either infected (LTBI) or uninfected (EMI-TB Discovery Cohort, Pontevedra Region, Spain). A TMT (Tamdem mass tags) 10plex-based quantitative proteomics study was performed in quintuplicate containing a total of 15 individual serum samples per group. Peptides were analyzed in an LC-Orbitrap Elite platform, and raw data were processed using Proteome Discoverer 2.1. A total of 418 proteins were quantified. The specific protein signature of active TB patients was characterized by an accumulation of proteins related to complement activation, inflammation and modulation of immune response and also by a decrease of a small subset of proteins, including apolipoprotein A and serotransferrin, indicating the importance of lipid transport and iron assimilation in the progression of the disease. This signature was verified by the targeted measurement of selected candidates in a second cohort (EMI-TB Verification Cohort, Maputo Region, Mozambique) by ELISA and nephelometry techniques. These findings will aid our understanding of the complex metabolic processes associated with TB progression from LTBI to active disease

Deformed defects for scalar fields with polynomial interactions

    Get PDF
In this paper we use the deformation procedure introduced in former work on deformed defects to investigate several new models for real scalar field. We introduce an interesting deformation function, from which we obtain two distinct families of models, labeled by the parameters that identify the deformation function. We investigate these models, which identify a broad class of polynomial interactions. We find exact solutions describing global defects, and we study the corresponding stability very carefully.Comment: 8 pages, 5 eps figures, to appear in PR

ÍNDICE DE BARTHEL: ¿ADECUADO PARA PLANIFICAR NECESIDADES AL ALTA HOSPITALARIA?

Nursing professionals carry out important work evaluating the needs of patients and care-givers. They also provide the required care, as well as transmit the knowledge and skills of self-care. In the planning of care it is necessary to evaluate the Basic Activities of Daily Living (BADL), essential for self-care, such as cleaning and dressing oneself, using the bathroom among others. The objective of the present work is to evaluate the capacity of self-care in elderly people previous to hospital discharge or in the same way, measure the level of dependence/independence in the execution of BADL. For this, the Barthel index has been used as an evaluation tool. The hypothesis tested is the suitability of this instrument in the evaluation of planning nursing care. The above mentioned hypothesis has been contrasted with the application of BI in 32 patients above the age of 65 years admitted to the department of Internal Medicine at the Coria City Regional Hospital.

Preprint[EN] In this work we introduce new scalar field models and study the defect solutions they may engender. The investigation is based on the deformation procedure, which greatly simplify the calculations, leading us to new models together with the corresponding solutions in a simple and powerful manner.

Universality of the 1/3 shot-noise suppression factor in nondegenerate diffusive conductors

    Get PDF
Shot-noise suppression is investigated in nondegenerate diffusive conductors by means of an ensemble Monte Carlo simulator. The universal 1/3 suppression value is obtained when transport occurs under elastic collision regime provided the following conditions are satisfied: (i) The applied voltage is much larger than the thermal value; (ii) the length of the device is much longer than both the elastic mean free path and the Debye length. By fully suppressing carrier-number fluctuations, long range Coulomb interaction is essential to obtain the 1/3 value in the low-frequency limit.Comment: RevTex, 4 pages, 4 figure

Late differentiation syndrome in acute promyelocytic leukemia: a challenging diagnosis

    Get PDF
Detailed knowledge about differentiation syndrome (DS) has remained limited. There are 2 large studies conducted by the Spanish workgroup PETHEMA (Programa Español de Tratamientos en Hematología; Spanish Program on Hematology Treatments) and the European group trial (LPA 96-99 and APL 93) in which the incidence, characteristics, prognostic factors and outcome of patients developing DS are evaluated. Both have described the median time of DS development between 10 and 12 days. The severity of the DS has been evaluated in the study conducted by PETHEMA, and severe DS usually occurs at the beginning of the treatment (median of 6 days), as compared with moderate DS (median of 15 days). We report here in two cases of late severe DS, with late diagnosis due to both time and form of presentation. We discuss the physiopathology, clinical presentation, prophylaxis and treatment of DS
