Modeling the effects of high strain rate loading on RC columns using Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) technique
In recent years, many studies have been conducted by governmental and nongovernmental organizations across the world in an attempt to better understand the effect of explosive loads on buildings in order to better design against specific threats. This study is intended to contribute to increase the knowledge about how explosions affect reinforced concrete (RC) columns. In this study, a nonlinear model is developed to study the blast response of RC columns subjected to explosive loads. Numerical modeling of RC column under explosive load is presented using advanced finite element code LS DYNA. The obtained numerical model is validated with the experimental test and the results are in substantial agreement with the experimental data. ALE method for blast analysis is presented in the current research. The effects of scaled distance on the damage profile of RC columns are investigated. The results demonstrate that the level of damage increased with describing the scaled distance. Also the results shown duration for the blast loading, and hence the impulse, varies with charge masses at the specified scaled distance. Higher magnitude charge masses produced longer blast loading durations than lower magnitude charge masses. This means that at the same scaled distance, a charge mass of higher magnitude produced a higher impulse than the lower magnitude charge mass. The findings of this research represent the scaled distance is an important parameter that should be taken into account when analyzing the behavior of RC columns under explosive effects. The data collected from this research are being used to improve the knowledge of how structures will respond to a blast event, and improve finite element models for predicting the blast performance of concrete structures.Peer Reviewe
Promising anti-microbial effect of apple vinegar as a natural decolonizing agent in healthcare workers
Introduction: Colonized Healthcare workers (HCWs) are an essential reservoir of nosocomial infections. This study aims to determine the prevalence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) carriage rate among HCWs, to evaluate at Fayoum University Hospital the susceptibility of isolates to mupirocin and Chlorhexidine and to investigate the antimicrobial effect of different vinegars on MRSA as a natural decolonizing agent.
Methods: Nasal and hand swabs were collected from 124 HCWs at Fayoum University Surgical Hospital. Isolates were identified using the standard microbiological methods. Susceptibilities to mupirocin and Chlorhexidine were determined by disk diffusion and broth micro-dilution. Screening antimicrobial effect of commercial vinegars was determined by agar well-diffusion method and microdilution method.
Results: About one tenth 11.3% (14/124) of HCWs showed nasal carriage of MRSA. Workers were the predominant carriers (P = 0.013). The overall non-nasal carriage rate of MRSA was 6.5% (8/124). Among MRSA isolates Low-level Mupirocin resistance (LLMR) showed in (36.4%, 8/22). MICs ranged from 0.25 to 32 μg/ml. Also, (13.6 %, 3/22) showed Chlorhexidine resistance, MICs ranged from 0.039 to 5 μg/ml. Apple vinegar showed the highest susceptibility among vinegars (p < 0.0001) with MIC values varied from 0.058 to 1.87 μg/ml
Discussion: The emergence of mupirocin (36.4%) and Chlorhexidine (13.6%) resistant Staphylococcus aureus among HCWs should be of excessive concern. Apple vinegar has a promising antimicrobial effect against MRSA isolates and could be used as a decolonizing agent

A single shot coherent Ising machine based on a network of injection-locked multicore fiber lasers
Combinatorial optimization problems over large and complex systems have many applications in social networks, image processing, artificial intelligence, computational biology and a variety of other areas. Finding the optimized solution for such problems in general are usually in non-deterministic polynomial time (NP)-hard complexity class. Some NP-hard problems can be easily mapped to minimizing an lsing energy function. Here, we present an analog all-optical implementation of a coherent lsing machine (CIM) based on a network of injection-locked multicore fiber (MCF) lasers. The Zeeman terms and the mutual couplings appearing in the Ising Hamiltonians are implemented using spatial light modulators (SLMs). As a proof-of-principle, we demonstrate the use of optics to solve several Ising Hamiltonians for up to thirteen nodes. Overall, the average accuracy of the CIM to find the ground state energy was similar to 90% for 120 trials. BRST Quantization of Noncommutative Gauge Theories
In this paper, the BRST symmetry transformation is presented for the
noncommutative U(N) gauge theory. The nilpotency of the charge associated to
this symmetry is then proved. As a consequence for the space-like
non-commutativity parameter, the Hilbert space of physical states is determined
by the cohomology space of the BRST operator as in the commutative case.
Further, the unitarity of the S-matrix elements projected onto the subspace of

New Multisite Bioelectrical Impedance Device Compared to Hydrostatic Weighing and Skinfold Body Fat Methods
International Journal of Exercise Science 13(4): 1718-1728, 2020. The purpose of this study was to compare the Skulpt Chisel™ to seven-site skinfold (SKF) and hydrostatic weighing (HW) body fat percentage (%BF) estimates. Twenty-six participants (aged 24 ± 4 years; BMI 23.1 ± 3.5 kg∙m-2) were assessed. Significant differences in %BF estimates were found for all methodological pairings; p \u3c 0.05. The SKF method underestimated %BF compared to HW (-2.52 ± 3.42 %BF). The Skulpt Chisel™ overestimated %BF compared to both HW (3.38 ± 6.10 %BF) and SKF (5.90 ± 5.26 %BF). Limits of agreement comparing HW to Skulpt Chisel™ indicated a difference between 95% confidence interval bounds (Upper bound: 5.84 %BF, Lower bound 0.92 %BF) and for HW to SKF (Upper bound: -1.14 %BF, Lower bound: -3.91 %BF). Regression analysis showed no significant bias for any methodological pairing; (p \u3e 0.05). In conclusion, the Skulpt Chisel™ method should be used with caution when evaluating %BF of adults with similar demographics reported in this study
Alterations in Antioxidant Defense System in the Plasma of Female Khat Chewers of Thamar City, Yemen

Unfortunately, farmers use to apply pesticide for the better product of Khat. The present study has been designed to investigate the activity of plasma butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) and to assess the antioxidant defense system in the plasma of female Khat chewers in Thamar city, Yemen. Plasma of twenty female Khat chewers and twenty controls (non Khat chewers) were prepared and the activities of BChE and catalase (CAT) were estimated along with the measuring levels of reduced glutathione, total thiols and cholesterol. At biochemical level a significant decrease in the activities of BChE and CAT were observed in the plasma of female Khat chewers (P < 0.05) concomitant with reductions in the levels of reduced glutathione and total thiols (P < 0.05) as compared to non Khat chewers. This alterations on the antioxidants resulted in decrease of plasma cholesterol in Khat chewers group (P < 0.05). The present data show that the production of oxidants which are responsible for reduction in antioxidant defense system might be due to chewing Khat plant with more attention to the pesticide applied to the plant
Religions and Social Progress:Critical Assessments and Creative Partnerships
This chapter engages with three important themes of the larger report: the meaning of progress, its uneven nature, and obstacles to future progress. It also considers a number of political and economic alternatives aimed to overcome these obstacles, emphasizing the need for diverse strategies, open-minded experimentation, and scientific assessment. While it may be impossible to ever reach agreement, the effort to calibrate different interpretations of progress remains an important exercise for political deliberation about how to make the world a better place. The very hope of moving forward implies some agreement on a destination. All of us must take responsibility for the future. Our discussion emphasizes the complexity and multidimensionality of the interpretive debate, but also calls attention to its ideological character. Social actors-individuals, groups, and even academic disciplines-tend to define progress in ways that serve their own interests. In a way, distributional conflict undermines our very efforts to better understand and mediate such conflict. The uneven character of progress is manifest in many different domains. Increases in the global reach of formally democratic institutions have been accompanied by growing concerns about their stability, efficacy, and consistency with democratic ideals
Whole Exome Sequencing to Estimate Alloreactivity Potential Between Donors and Recipients in Stem Cell Transplantation
Whole exome sequencing was performed on HLA-matched stem cell donors and
transplant recipients to measure sequence variation contributing to minor
histocompatibility antigen differences between the two. A large number of
nonsynonymous single nucleotide polymorphisms were identified in each of the
nine unique donor-recipient pairs tested. This variation was greater in
magnitude in unrelated donors as compared with matched related donors.
Knowledge of the magnitude of exome variation between stem cell transplant
recipients and donors may allow more accurate titration of immunosuppressive
