    Electron identification using the TOPAZ detector at TRISTAN

    We present an electron-identification method using the time-projection chamber and the lead-glass calorimeter in the TOPAZ detector system. Using this method we have achieved good electron identification against hadron backgrounds over a wide momentum range in the hadronic events produced by both single-photon exchange and two-photon processes. Pion-rejection factors and electron efficiencies were 163 and 68.4\% for high-PTP_T electrons and 137 and 42.7\% for low-PTP_T electrons in the single-photon-exchange process, and 8600 and 36.0\% for the two-photon process, respectively.Comment: 32 pages, latex format (article), 24 figures, submitted for publication

    Basic Study of Susceptibility-Weighted Imaging at 1.5T

    With the aim of sequence optimization in susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI), 2 image acquisition parameters (slice thickness and matrix size) and 2 image processing conditions (number of slices per minimum intensity projection (MIP) and Sliding Window) were investigated using a 1.5-T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system. The subjects were 12 healthy volunteers and the target region for scanning was the whole brain. Informed consent was obtained from all subjects. First, susceptibility-weighted images were acquired with various slice thicknesses from 1mm to 5mm and various matrix sizes from 256x256 to 512x512, and the images were assessed in terms of the contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) and were also visually evaluated by three radiologists. Then, the number of slices per MIP and the usefulness of the Sliding Window were investigated. In the study of the optimal slice thickness and matrix size, the results of visual evaluation suggested that a slice thickness of 3mm and a matrix size of 448x448 are optimal, while the results of evaluation based on CNR were not significant. As regards the image processing conditions, the results suggested that the number of slices per MIP should be set to a minimum value of 2 and that the use of Sliding Window is effective. The present study provides useful reference data for optimizing SWI sequences.</p

    日本語の破裂音/g/と/k/の調音的と音声的差異 ―MRIによるケーススタディー―

    標準語話者の有声,無声の破裂音/g/,/k/の調音と音声の特徴を/agise/,/akise/の検査語を用いて検討した.音声では閉鎖区間,formant onset time (FOT),子音区間は/k/が/g/より長く,先行母音と後続母音は/g/に隣接する場合に/k/に隣接する場合より長かった.先に報告した同じ話者の調音上の特徴に,閉鎖区間が/k/が/g/より長いこと,閉鎖のタイミングが/k/が/g/より早いことがあった.これらはそれぞれ音声上の閉鎖区間が/k/が/g/より長かったこと,/g/に先行する母音が/k/に先行する場合より長かったことに対応する.MRIの/g/,/k/の最大閉鎖フレームのトレース画を用いた計測では,/k/は/g/に比べ正中面上の閉鎖の範囲が長い傾向が見られたが,咽頭面積は個人差が大きく/g/と/k/で一定の傾向が確認できなかった

    Linguistic Factors Affecting Moraic Duration in Spontaneous Japanese

    Japanese is often referred to as a mora-timed language (Ladefoged 1975): the mora has been described as the psychological prosodic unit in the spoken language, and it is the metric unit of traditional poetry (Bloch 1950). However, it is clear that mo- rae are not strictly isochronous units (Beckman 1982). Thus, experimental studies have focused on detecting compensation effects that make average mora durations more equal through the modulation of the inherent duration of the segments involved (Han 1962; Port, Al-Ani, Maeda 1980; Homma 1981; Hoequist 1983a; 1983b; Warner, Arai 2001). Kawahara (2017) used the Corpus of Spontaneous Japanese to verify whether the dura- tional compensation effect within a /CV/ mora occurs in natural speech, in addition to read speech in the lab. He observed a statistically significant compensation effect of /CV/ morae, in which vowel duration tends to vary in response to the duration of the preced- ing consonant. However, as the same author has pointed out, the compensation is not absolute because there are several linguistic factors that potentially affect segments’ duration profiles. This study will support the idea that moraic isochrony does not occur in spontaneous Japanese by presenting empirical data on how linguistic factors can considerably affect variation in the average duration of morae

    In this paper the nature and the landscape of the Mt. Bizan are investigated based on “Awa meisho zue” which was a guidebook of Awa (Tokushima) published about 200 years ago. In the picture entitled “Mt. Bizan” a tower at the Jimyoin Temple and two buildings are drawn in the mountain. The mountain is covered with pine trees, and there is a waterfall near the tower. Besides pine trees, three types of trees, Japanese cedar and/or Japanese cypress, trees that presumably cherry, and unknown broadleaf trees are drawn in Mt. Otakiyama that is a part of Mt. Bizan based on the picture entitled “Otakisan Jimyoin”. Other historical records in Edo era coincide with the composition of plant species in Mt. Bizan. Though the vegetation of Mt. Bizan was efended by laws throughout Edo era, it was deforested and the mountain became bald after the Meiji Restoration. Afterwards, it was protected by specifying it as the protection forest and by making it as a park. Now, pine trees and Japanese cedar and/or Japanese cypress have almost been lost, and pasania and live oak are well growing in the mountain. The tower at Jimyoin was burned down by the air raid in the World War II, and the waterfall has thinned. On the other hand, mountain trails and a ropeway were made, and a lot of buildings were built at the top of the mountain. Thus, the nature and the landscape of Mt. Bizan greatly changed in 200 years. However, citizens are still familiar with it as the symbol of Tokushima City

    We followed and investigated about the speech-language and cognitive-neuropsychological abilities of two cases, started wearing cochlear implant(CI in the followings) from different ages. And we compared and examined the effects of the age of started wearing CI on the development of them. The results were as follows; Case-A started wearing CI in age of 2, he could achieve the normal developmental level as his calendar age on speech-language and cognitive-neuropsychological abilities. Case-B started wearing CI in age of 6, it was remarkable he restarted in order of his recognition of vocabulary, verbal-intelligence, abilities of articulation, speech-hearing, for the lateness of started wearing the hearing aided devices. It was suggested that they could have the possibility of acquisition of speech-language abilities practically using their hearing, if we would have CI worn on them before age of 3

    看護実践力育成のための発展型データベース・シミュレーション教材「Web 聖隷タウン」の開発 : 第1報

    報告Reports 本稿は、保健師助産師看護師学校養成所指定規則の一部改正(2022 年4月1日施行)に伴う、本学看護学部のカリキュラム改革推進の一環として、2021 年度より検討が開始された看護実践力育成のための発展型データベース・シミュレーション教材「Web 聖隷タウン」の開発に関する第一報である。本学シミュレーション教育委員会は、「Web 聖隷タウン」の実用に向けた開発として、(1)地域の中の看護視点を育てるためのプロットの開発、(2)Web 聖隷タウン制作の技術的課題解決に向けた実用可能な制作環境の試用および検討を行っている。本稿では、「Web 聖隷タウン」の開発経緯と開発推進のための資源確保について、本教材の持つ機能、これまでの活動経過および今後の課題について報告する
