Mapping socioeconomic achievement gaps in Portugal using data visualization
In this paper, socioeconomic-based indicators of academic achievement and their
relationships with municipal-level variables are transferred from the complex scientific research
to an interactive and intuitive analysis, with data visualization tools as the primary driver. Three
distinct dashboards using Portuguese-specific data were created in Tableau and successfully tested
with a diverse range of end-users. These dashboards offer guidance about the different indicators
of academic achievement, allow the visualization of regional disparities and temporal tendencies,
and show the relationship with several municipal-specific characteristics. Users are now able to
analyze and combine multiple characteristics without even scrolling. Dashboards are available at
Winstanley’s Utopia in Literature and in Cinema
Trying to achieve a perfect or better society for living, men dared, from the very beginning of his existence, to fulfill their own utopias. This was the case of Winstanley, a man who during the Interregnum envisioned for the future of the English Commonwealth the establishment of a rural communism as he believed "the earth was a common treasure for all." Beginning his utopia with an impulse to act and a call for action: "If you don't act, you do nothing" Winstanley, failed setting up the Diggers communities with whom he established proto-socialist communes. However he still continued to act, but this time "digging in the pages" and not in ground as he had done with the Diggers. Based in his previous experience with Diggers communities he wrote then his remarkable utopia, The Law of Freedom, which he dedicated to Oliver Cromwell, urging the English people to emulate it. Once more he wasn't succeeded with his words and only in the twentieth century historians and film makers found in his pamphlets and his literary utopia, a remarkable literary and historic resource to depict the socio-political reality of the Interregnum period. So it would be in cinema through the shot of image, that Winstanley's utopia would be relived and restored it to life. Through this remarkable intersemiotic transpose we realize that the process of writing can be regarded as the process of picturing as both try to piece together or, in other words, "re-member" fragments of recollections from the past, of haunting guilt and traumas, beautiful dreams and aspirations, or visions of utopias that far from being fixed entities, are, rather, an endless and unfinished process filled with clashes and conflicts
Utopian Impulses during the English Interregnum: John Eliot and Gerrard Winstanley
During the English Interregnum John Eliot and Gerrard Winstanley wrote their utopias in different hemispheres, depicting different patterns of utopias which offered alternative models of code laws for a divine platform of Government they urged the English to emulate. Within this extraordinary historical and political context, political action and utopian literature enjoyed an unparalleled symbiosis. Through a close analysis of the parallels and main differences of their works we can get deeper insight the thought and culture of that period. Their utopias, The Law of Freedom and The Christian Commonwealth, share the same political agenda towards reality and convey a similar plan of realization in their political aspirations, but each author displays a uniquely different emphasis and approach to utopia, differing from one another in epistemology, ideology and social and political emphasis. However by assessing the potential of these utopias we can trace some bridges linking their authors' perceptions to shape a better future for the same country. Their radicalism concerning the royalist power, their concern to eradicate the old civil and ecclesiastical system, the search of a political order and stability, the improvement of social conditions and religious tolerance, were depicted within their utopian texts. A close analysis of these texts which have never been grouped and brought together by scholars, illustrates the range of the political imagination of their authors and provides an opportunity to examine different ways to deal with political and social concerns and different perspectives for ideal solutions by such writers who were so committed to connecting utopia to reality
É a desobediência civil eticamente aceitável?

This paper discusses education, access to culture and social vulnerability in the context of the Paraense Amazon, based on the experience of Fundação Cultural do Estado do Pará (FCP), in the light of liberation psychology, social identity theory, and moral recognition theory. It contextualizes both the Amazon in a broader sense as well as Pará's Amazon, in order to present part of Brazil's northern reality, some of the possibilities and challenges faced because of geographic, cultural and social idiosyncrasies of the region. After briefly presenting FCP's history and structure, it shares some educational experiences in arts in non-formal environments. Finally, it dialogues with the mentioned theories to help us think about education and access to culture, especially in a context of social vulnerability, as well as to explore different possibilities for intervening in this reality. To sum up, it brings concepts from the fields of education, art, psychology, law and others to gaze upon a part of education and culture in the Paraense Amazon

Risk assessment of trihalomethanes exposure by consumption of IV gamma products: Evidences from a Portuguese regional survey
Due to the current demand for healthier food, the IV gamma products industry has grown over the years. Additionally, it is well known that chlorine is a disinfectant largely used in this industry. However, the risk assessment associated with the formation of carcinogenic by-products from this halogenated disinfection has not been widely studied. The aim of this study was to assess the trihalomethanes (THMs) exposure through the
consumption of IV gamma products, more specifically, salad mixes, and potential health risk in Portuguese population using a deterministic method. The quantification of THMs in salad mixes from the most representative Portuguese brands was performed by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC–MS). The THMs exposures were estimated by combining the THMs concentration data with a ready-to-eat salad mix consumption survey (case study applied in the Lisboa e Vale do Tejo area; n = 271). The concentration of THMs in all samples was below the limit of quantification of the equipment (1 μg/L), and this limit was used for the evaluation of the exposure. It was found that it is very small for the consumption pattern of these products in the studied population categories, suggesting that there is no risk for consumers due to the halogenated disinfection process. The highest estimated daily exposure was 7,65X10−5 mg/ kg bw/ week, which corresponds to a person who consumes such products daily.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
