    Get PDF
Galicia´s rural interior presents a rich cultural heritage an economic based on the survival of built forms (both village and its colonized territories) and in the presence of fertil soils with conditions for high quality agriculture. The study proposes to define which the structural elements of traditional agricultural systems are, the characteristics of the built forms associated with them and the landscapes in order to stablish planning and management tools from their recognition. The research defines its scope of study in the province of Ourense, providing an analysis on two Allariz´ parishes included in the biosphere reserve Área de Allariz, of wich fixed structures, parcel and coverage are discussed, introducing issues of plots fragmentation, agricultural system and certain traditional practices.Peer Reviewe

This text accounts the experience of the workshops "inhabited landscapes" that arose in the process of elaboration of the thesis as a way to generate graphical documents constituted themselves an integral and original speech, with a language of form and content intimate able to contain the essence of the territory of the inner Galicia that was intended to recognize. The workshops aim to test a method of creative approach to the understanding of landscapes, from the invention of tools and skills training, under the pretense of compressing a time-dilated of other experimental and autobiographical learning

Video Games and the COVID-19 Pandemic: Virtual Worlds as New Playgrounds and Training Spaces

[EN] The COVID-19 pandemic forced the authorities to take an unprecedented measure in history: the house confinement of millions of people worldwide. Video games, especially open-world video games (OWVGs), became meeting spaces, a digital places to play, chat, learn and socialize due to the context of the health crisis, respecting the rules of social distancing. This article analyses the role of video games and, more specifically, OWVGs, as playgrounds and training spaces during the pandemic. Statistical data and analyses carried out by consulting companies and civil associations show the definitive insertion of these video games in our routine and social relations. The challenge is to take advantage of the skills and abilities that these video games develop within a new framework of individual and community learning. The conclusions of the research show that the virtual worlds of video games are for the new digital society, safe and comfortable meeting spaces, and that since the confinement, these digS

    Tourism in Emptied Spain

[EN] Every Autonomous Community in Spain has promoted nature tourism and rural tourism in villages as an economic solution that could replace traditional agro-livestock activities and halt emigration bleeding. However, the data analysis shows that many of these places have barely sparked the interest of potential visitors and that the return on investment is at least questionable. This chapter analyses the tourist supply and demand of Empty Spain, taking into account the sustainability in the process of transformation into a tourist destination and the territorial resilience of the abandoned places, underlining in this sense the strong ties of the former inhabitants, many times manifested in the so-called emigrant tourism

    Elliptic Curves and Mazur's Theorem

    Get PDF
This paper gives a sketch of proof of Mazur's Theorem classifying the possible rational torsion subgroups of elliptic curves defined over rational numbers. We will prove Mazur's theorem by using two main lemmas. The sketch of proof of these two lemmas will be the goal of all the work. We will provide the tools needed to understand the proofs, trying to make the work as self-contained as possible although we must avoid some technical parts. We will present the basic notions of the theory of elliptic curves, discuss about Weierstrass equations, the Mordell-Weil group, isogenies, endomorphisms, the basics of the theory of group schemes, Néron models for elliptic curves, and modular curves

Does training affect match performance? A study using data mining and tracking devices

    Get PDF
FIFA has recently allowed the use of electronic performance and tracking systems (EPTS) in professional football competition, providing teams with novel and more accurate data. Physical performance has not yet taken much attention from the research community, due to the difficulty of accessing this information with the same devices during training and competition. This study provides a methodology based on machine learning and statistical methods to relate the physical performance variation of players during time-framed training sessions, and their performance in the following matches. The analysis is carried out over F.C. Barcelona B, season 2015-2016 data, and makes emphasis on exploiting the design characteristics of the structured training methodology implemented within the club. The use of summarized physical variation data has provided a remarkable relation between higher magnitudes of variation in 3-week time frames during training, and higher physical values in the following matches. With increased data availability this and new approaches could provide a new frontier in physical performance analysis. This is, up to our knowledge, the first study to relate training and matches performance through the same EPTS devices in professional football.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

Finally, the article underlines the deciding role of Catalonia on the general final outcom

Craniofacial diversification in the domestic pigeon and the evolution of the avian skull.

A central question in evolutionary developmental biology is how highly conserved developmental systems can generate the remarkable phenotypic diversity observed among distantly related species. In part, this paradox reflects our limited knowledge about the potential for species to both respond to selection and generate novel variation. Consequently, the developmental links between small-scale microevolutionary variations within populations to larger macroevolutionary patterns among species remain unbridged. Domesticated species, such as the pigeon, are unique resources for addressing this question, because a history of strong artificial selection has significantly increased morphological diversity, offering a direct comparison of the developmental potential of a single species to broader evolutionary patterns. Here, we demonstrate that patterns of variation and covariation within and between the face and braincase in domesticated breeds of the pigeon are predictive of avian cranial evolution. These results indicate that selection on variation generated by a conserved developmental system is sufficient to explain the evolution of crania as different in shape as the albatross or eagle, parakeet or hummingbird. These 'rules' of cranio-facial variation are a common pattern in the evolution of a broad diversity of vertebrate species and may ultimately reflect structural limitations of a shared embryonic bauplan on functional variation
