    Get PDF
This paper focuses on the creation of an evaluation tool which provides a thorough assessment of EFL learning websites. After analysing different frameworks for assessing EFL sites, we will define a clear model based on a set of criteria committed to assess EFL learning websites. Finally, we will propose our own evaluation checklist for surveying the nature of such sites comprising some key items for analysis such as multimedia, interactivity, educational content and more especially those related communicative aspects included such as computer mediated communication (CMM).El objetivo del presente trabajo es la creación de una herramienta que permita una evaluación exhaustiva de páginas web para el aprendizaje del inglés como lengua extranjera.

Robust estimation for the multivariate linear model based on a Ď„-scale

    Get PDF
AbstractWe introduce a class of robust estimates for multivariate linear models. The regression coefficients and the covariance matrix of the errors are estimated simultaneously by minimizing the determinant of the covariance matrix estimate, subject to a constraint on a robust scale of the Mahalanobis norms of the residuals. By choosing a Ď„-estimate as a robust scale, the resulting estimates combine good robustness properties and asymptotic efficiency under Gaussian errors. These estimates are asymptotically normal and in the case where the errors have an elliptical distribution, their asymptotic covariance matrix differs only by a scalar factor from the one corresponding to the maximum likelihood estimate. We derive the influence curve and prove that the breakdown point is close to 0.5. A Monte Carlo study shows that our estimates compare favorably with respect to S-estimates

How Continuous Monitoring Changes the Interaction of Patients with a Mobile Telemedicine System

    Get PDF
The use of continuous glucose monitor changes the way patients manage their diabetes, as observed in the increased number of daily insulin bolus, the increased number of daily BG measurements, and the differences in the distribution of BG measurements throughout the day. Continuous monitoring also increases the interaction of patients with the information system and modifies their patterns of use

Characterization of activated sludge settling properties with a sludge collapse-acceleration stage

[EN] The sedimentability of the activated sludge can be affected by the presence of a large variety of coagulants and polymers from a previous physical-chemical process. In this paper, the activated sludge settling process in industrial wastewater treatment plants where the sludge does not settle in a conventional way is studied. The two observed constant hindered settling velocity stages and the instant the intermediate sludge acceleration period occurs are described. A variation of the Richardson and Zaki model is used to characterize the two stages of constant settling velocity. The concentration of suspended solids, where a sudden decrease of hindered settling velocity was observed, is calculated. Finally, a new hypothesis to explain the processes triggering the collapse of the initial homogeneous sludge structure and the existence of an acceleration period is formulated.Asensi DasĂ, EJ.; Alemany MartĂnez, E.; Seco Torrecillas, A.; Ferrer, J. Procedings of: 20th International Conference on Renewable Energies and Power Quality (ICREPQ'22), 27-29 July 2022, Vigo, Spain.Digitalization process experienced by traditional power networks towards smart grids extend the challenges faced by power grid operators to the field of cybersecurity. False data injection attacks, one of the most common cyberattacks in smart grids, could lead the power grid to sabotage itself. In this paper, an event detection algorithm for cyberattack in smart grids is developed based on a decision tree. In order to find the most accurate algorithm, two different decision trees with two different goals have been trained: one classifies the status of the network, corresponding to an event, and the other will classify the location where the event is detected. To train the decision trees, a dataset made by co-simulating a power network and a communication network has been used. The decision trees are going to be compared in different settings by changing the division criteria, the dataset used to train them and the misclassification cost. After looking at their performance independently, the best way to combine them into a single algorithm is presented. This research was funded by Fundación Iberdrola España, within the 2020 research support scholarship program

Electronic Report Generation Web Service evaluated within a Telemedicine System

    Get PDF
This work presents a generic tool based on a client-server architecture that generates electronic reports helping the evaluation process of any information system. For the specific evaluation of telemedicine systems the defined reports cover four dimensions: auditory of the system; evolution of clinical protocols; results from the questionnaires for user acceptance and quality of life; and surveillance of clinical variables. The use of a Web Service approach allows multiplatform use of the developed electronic report service and the modularity followed in the implementation enables easy system evolution and scalability

Effect of central hole location in phakic intraocular lenses on visual function under progressive headlight glare sources

Purpose: To analyze the effect of the central hole location in the V4c implantable collamer lens (ICL) on the quality of vision, including progressive headlight glare simulation and quality of life. Setting: IOBA-Eye Institute, Valladolid, Spain. Design: Case series. Methods: The central hole location was determined by slitlamp and dual Scheimpflug imaging for 6 months or more postoperatively. The visual acuity, mesopic contrast sensitivity, halogen glare contrast sensitivity, xenon glare contrast sensitivity, photostress recovery time after glare, de Boer scale, and Quality of Life Impact of Refractive Correction (QIRC) questionnaire results were evaluated. Multiple regression models were used to analyze the effect of the central hole location on parameters using the pupil center and visual axis as references based on Cartesian and polar coordinates. Results: The safety index was 1.13 and the efficacy index, 1.12. Under all testing circumstances, central hole decentration did not affect the visual acuity or contrast sensitivity. With the visual axis as a reference, worse QIRC values were associated with greater upward central hole displacement (P = .03) and a lower polar angle value (P = .008); also, halogen glare discomfort was greater with a higher radius (P = .04). Using the pupil center as a reference, greater nasal central hole decentration was associated with longer xenon glare photostress recovery time (P = .002). Conclusions: Implantation of the ICL with a central hole yielded excellent visual outcomes, even under increasing glare sources, regardless of the hole's location. However, hole decentration might affect patient-perceived quality of life, bothersome halogen glare, and longer xenon glare photostress recovery time. Such complaints after the early postoperative period might be managed with discrete ICL centration if the central hole is decentered upward or nasally. This study was supported in part by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (Instituto de Salud Carlos III) through Research Projects RETICS RD16/008/0001 (Oftared); EM-P was supported by Junta de Castilla y LeĂłn and European Social Fund (EDU/1100/2017)
