El concepto de ciudadanía en la obra de Dominique Schnapper: entre el tipo ideal sociológico y el ideal de sociedad democrática

This article analyses the evolution of the concept of citizenship in the work of Dominique Schnapper as one of the most prominent examples in contemporary sociology of a comprehensive approach to this question. Through an extensive overview of her work, the aim is to deepen the understanding of the tension between the dynamics of democracy and the idea of citizenship both as the ideal type of a social bond and as a regulatory principle for democratic societies. In her early books, she proposes a notion of citizenship linked to the political process of nation building which does not distinguish between the defi nition of a sociological ideal type and the construction of an ideal of society. This confusion is later revised by introducing into the analysis the impact of democracy over individual experiences of citizenship, which provides a very useful analytical perspective both for understanding the dynamics of contemporary democratic societies and for the necessaEste artículo analiza la evolución del concepto de ciudadanía en la obra de Dominique Schnapper como uno de los ejemplos más destacados en la sociología contemporánea de una aproximación completa a la cuestión. A través de un recorrido exhaustivo por su obra, el objetivo es profundizar en la comprensión de la tensión entre la dinámica democrática y la idea de ciudadanía en cuanto que tipo ideal del vínculo social y como principio regulador de las sociedades democráticas. La autora propone en sus primeros trabajos una noción de ciudadanía vinculada al proceso político de construcción de la nación que no distingue entre la definición de un tipo ideal sociológico y la construcción de un ideal de sociedad. Esta confusión se corrige al introducir posteriormente en el análisis la incidencia de la democracia sobre las experiencias individuales de la ciudadanía, aportando una perspectiva de análisis de gran utilidad tanto para la comprensión de la dinámica contemporánea de las sociedades democráticas como para la necesaria defensa de la ciudadanía como vínculo social fundamental y como principio fundador de la legitimidad política

Drosophila melanogaster mutant tan

Drosophila melanogaster gene tan was originally discovered in the early 20th century as a mutant strain lacking the dark pi gment pattern of wild-type (wt) f lies and, therefore, showing a light yellowish brown color (McEwen, 1918). Flies lack ing Tan function also exhibited abnormalities in vision (Benzer, 1967; Inoue et al. , 1988; True et al. , 2005), and tan males displayed an abnormal courtship behavior (Cook, 1980; Tomkins et al. , 1982). tan 1 ( t 1 ) and tan 3 ( t 3 ) alleles were found as spontaneous mutations, t 3 mutant being apparently lighter than t 1 (Brehme, 1941). tan is the structural gene for N- β -alanyldopamine hydrolase (NBAD-hydrolase or Tan protein), the enzyme that generates dopamine (DA) from NBAD (Wright, 1987; True et al. , 2005). Tan is expressed as a precursor protein of 43.7 kDa. Th is precursor is clea ved into two subunits of 29.9 and 13.8 kDa that apparently conform together a he terodimeric active protein (Wagner et al. , 2007). The enzyme that generates NBAD from DA, th e opposite reaction to the one catalyzed by Tan, is the NBAD-synthase or E bony protein (Wright, 1987; Pérez et al ., 1997), which is codified by the gene ebony . Since both Tan and Ebony ar e involved in cuticle tanni ng, carcinine re gulation, and NBAD metabolism in nervous tissue (Wright, 1987; Pérez et al. , 1997, 2004; Hovemann et al. , 1998; Borycz et al. , 2002; True et al. , 2005), it has been suggested that they function together in a system regulating the levels of dopamine during cuticle sclerotization a nd histamine in the visual metabolism (Borycz et al. , 2002; Pérez et al. , 2010). During the last few years, several publicati ons appeared regarding NBAD-synthase (Wappner et al ., 1996a, b; Pérez et al ., 1997, 2002, 2004, 2010; Hovemann et al. , 1998; Borycz et al. , 2002; Wittkopp et al., 2002; Schachter et al ., 2007), but very little is known about tan (True et al. , 2005; Wagner et al. , 2007). Coarse-Grained Simulations of Release of Drugs Housed in Flexible Nanogels: New Insights into Kinetic Parameters

In these in silico experiments, the effect of its flexibility is assessed by comparing it with data obtained for a rigid nanogel with the same volume fraction and topology. Our results show that the initial distribution of the drug can exert a great influence on the release kinetics. This work also reveals that certain surface phenomena driven by steric interactions can lead to apparently counterintuitive behaviors. Such phenomena are not usually included in many theoretical treatments used for the analysis of experimental release kinetics. Therefore, one should be very careful in drawing conclusions from these formalisms. In fact, our results suggest that the interpretation of drug release curves in terms of kinetic exponents (obtained from the Ritger–Peppas Equation) is a tricky question. Hacer investigación cualtitativa sobre migraciones siendo ciudadano del país de instalación: Reflexiones sobre una investigación en España

Um neue Wege der Evaluierung von Migrationspolitiken zu eröffnen, habe ich mittels direkter Beobachtung und qualitativer Interviews Oficinas de Extranjeros – Zuwanderungsämter in Spanien – untersucht. Schnell habe ich einsehen müssen, dass meine Position als Forscher in diesem Kontext widersprüchlich ist, da ich mich als spanischer Staatsbürger unter Zuwanderer(inne)n in einem Raum bewegte, in dem die einzigen spanischen Staatsbürger(innen) Polizei- oder zivile Staatsbedienstete waren. Ich reflektierte über diese Trennung und die Art, wie ich als Teil der Institution wahrgenommen wurde, wie ich es empfand: als "typischer" Mittelklasse-Bürger spanischer Herkunft, der wenig mit den Zuwanderer(inne)n gemeinsam hatte, die er untersuchen wollte. Meine diesbezüglichen Überlegungen veranlassten mich, eine Reihe verschiedener Forschungsstrategien auszuprobieren, um die Insider/Outsider-Gegenüberstellung zu überwinden, die zwischen Zuwanderer(inne)n und "Einheimischen" besteht. Der vorliegende Beitrag reflektiert die angewandten Strategien und generell die auftretenden Schwierigkeiten und Dilemmata, ein "Insider" (ein Freund) werden zu wollen, während man offensichtlich ein Outsider (ein Fremder) bleibt. URN: urn:nbn:de:0114-fqs060319In order to look for new ways of evaluating immigration policies, I started research based on direct observations and qualitative interviews within the Oficinas de Extranjeros—the Spanish Offices for Immigration. I soon realised that my position as a researcher in this context was controversial, related to the fact that I was a Spanish citizen among foreigners, in a place where the only Spanish citizens were policemen or civil servants. I reflected upon this divide and the way in which I was, I felt, being perceived as part of the "institution": as a middle-class Spanish citizen with little "obviously" in common with the immigrants I sought to research. Reflecting on this led me to test a number of research "strategies" in an attempt to break through the insider/outsider barriers between migrant and non-migrant. The paper will reflect upon these strategies, and more generally, it will review the difficulties and dilemmas of becoming an insider (a friend) whilst beginning as an obvious outsider (a stranger). Pronto me di cuenta de que mi posición como investigador en dicho contexto resultaba bastante controvertida por el hecho de ser un español entre extranjeros en un lugar donde los únicos españoles eran policías o funcionarios. Me hice varias preguntas sobre mi posición en dicho contexto, al ser percibido como un miembro más de la institución, como un ciudadano de clase media y, "obviamente", alejado de los intereses de los inmigrantes. También empecé a probar algunas estrategias para romper con esta imagen. Basado en este trabajo empírico, presento una revisión crítica del dilema entre ser un insider (un amigo) o un outsider (un extraño) al hacer investigación cualitativa entre inmigrantes.
