On strongly reflexive topological groups

Let Gˆ denote the Pontryagin dual of an abelian topological group G. Then G is reflexive if it is topologically isomorphic to Gˆˆ, strongly reflexive if every closed subgroup and every Hausdorff quotient of G and of Gˆ is reflexive. It is well known that locally compact abelian (LCA) groups are strongly reflexive. W. Banaszczyk [Colloq. Math. 59 (1990), no. 1, 53–57], extending an earlier result of R. Brown, P. J. Higgins and S. A. Morris [Math. Proc. Cambridge Philos. Soc. 78 (1975), 19–32], showed that all countable products and sums of LCA groups are strongly reflexive. L. Aussenhofer [Dissertationes Math. (Rozprawy Mat.) 384 (1999), 113 pp.] showed that all Čech-complete nuclear groups are strongly reflexive. It is an open question whether the strongly reflexive groups are exactly the Čech-complete nuclear groups and their duals. A Hausdorff topological group G is almost metrizable if and only if it has a compact subgroup K such that G/K is metrizable [W. Roelcke and S. Dierolf, Uniform structures on topological groups and their quotients, McGraw-Hill, New York, 1981]. In this paper it is shown that the annihilator of a closed subgroup of an almost metrizable group G is topologically isomorphic to the dual of the corresponding Hausdorff quotient, and an analogous statement holds for the character group of G. It then follows that an almost metrizable group is strongly reflexive only if its Hausdorff quotients and those of its dual are reflexive

Analysis of Documental Heritage of CETA in Standardization of the Spanish Manufacturing Automotive Industry

AbstractStandardization has taken an active role in the development of several main industrial sectors and the automotive sector has been one of them. Current work shows the collection, analysis, revision and management process developed on CETA (Center of Automotive Technical Study) standards related to the manufacturing automotive sector, an unknown element of Spanish standardization heritage. Also, a comparative evaluation between CETA standards and current UNE standards has been performed. The results show that CETA standards have had a positive influence in the evolution of the automotive sector as well as an important contribution to the contents of the UNE standards

The Krzyż conjecture revisited

The Krzyz conjecture concerns the largest values of the Taylor coefficients of a non-vanishing analytic function bounded by one in modulus in the unit disk. It has been open since 1968 even though information on the structure of extremal functions is available. The purpose of this paper is to collect various conditions that the coefficients of an extremal function (and various other quantities associated with it) should satisfy if the conjecture is true and to show that each one of these properties is equivalent to the conjecture itself. Ribonucleotides and manganese ions improve non-homologous end joining by human Polμ

Human DNA polymerase mu (Polμ), a family X member involved in DNA repair, has both template-directed and terminal transferase (template-independent) activities. In addition to their ability to incorporate untemplated nucleotides, another similarity between Polµ and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT) is their promiscuity in using ribonucleotides (NTPs), whose physiological significance is presently unknown. As shown here, Polµ can use NTPs instead of deoxynucleotides (dNTPs) during non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) of non-complementary ends, a Polµ-specific task. Moreover, a physiological concentration of Mn 2+ ions did benefit Polµ-mediated NHEJ by improving the efficiency and accuracy of nucleotide insertion. Analysis of different mutations in the ‘steric gate’ of the active site indicated that Polµ is taking advantage of an open active site, valid for selecting alternative activating metal ions and nucleotides as substrates. This versatility would allow ad hoc selection of the most appropriate nucleotide/metal ion combination for individual NHEJ events to gain efficiency without a cost in terms of fidelity, thus widening the spectrum of available solutions to position a discontinuous template strand in proper register for connection

The mediated effect of social presence on social commerce WOM behavior

Based on expectation disconfirmation theory, this study analyzes how attitudes (satisfaction and loyalty) influence interaction intention (sWOM) and, consequently, active and passive sWOM behavior. It does so by assessing the mediating role of social presence on sWOM intention and behavior. The empirical results provide several contributions. First, knowing how to increase active sWOM contributes to bridging the gap regarding how to enhance interactions between users. Second, fostering active sWOM on social commerce websites will provide companies with more positive user-generated content, since this active sWOM comes from satisfied and loyal users, and it is assumed that they will rate the product positively and report a good experience. Third, companies can benefit more from users if users interact with other users by sharing their experiences. This study sheds light on how social presence can mediate the relationship between intention and behavior, particularly when it comes to increasing active participation and brand promotion. © 2021 by the authors. Evaluación de la citotoxicidad de una mezcla de ocho contaminantes a concentraciones de relevancia ambiental

The ubiquitous presence of pollutants and the accurate evaluation of their potential risks for environmental and human health is an area of major concern. We have simulated an in vitro scenario of long-term exposure to a mixture of eight pollutants at real environmental concentrations using mammalian Vero cells. Our results demonstrate that cellular proliferation rates were significantly altered, either by inhibition or stimulation, depending on the mixture composition and the exposure time.
