Degeneracy lifting of Majorana bound states due to electron-phonon interactions
We study theoretically how electron-phonon interaction affects the energies
and level broadening (inverse lifetime) of Majorana bound states (MBSs) in a
clean topological nanowire at low temperatures. At zero temperature, the energy
splitting between the right and left MBSs remains exponentially small with
increasing nanowire length . At finite temperatures, however, the absorption
of thermal phonons leads to the broadening of energy levels of the MBSs that
does not decay with system length, and the coherent absorption/emission of
phonons at opposite ends of the nanowire results in MBSs energy splitting that
decays only as an inverse power-law in . Both effects remain exponential in
temperature. In the case of quantized transverse motion of phonons, the
presence of Van Hove singularities in the phonon density of states causes
additional resonant enhancement of both the energy splitting and the level
broadening of the MBSs. This is the most favorable case to observe the
phonon-induced energy splitting of MBSs as it becomes much larger than the
broadening even if the topological nanowire is much longer than the coherence
length. We also calculate the charge and spin associated with the energy
splitting of the MBSs induced by phonons. We consider both a spinless
low-energy continuum model, which we evaluate analytically, as well as a
spinful lattice model for a Rashba nanowire, which we evaluate numerically
Cerrado and Veredas: Designation, Meaning and Semantic Change
This article shows how metaphor and metonymy are plentiful and operative in the process of lexical creation and semantic change. For this, the lexical units Cerrado and Vereda – words that label, respectively, the second most important Brazilian ecosystem and one of its subsystems – were chosen for analysis. The analysis met the semantic theory in its diachronic approach, as well as the lexical theory and etymology’s points of view. Those lexical units can be analyzed as having been created by metaphor and metonymy, in addition to having undergone semantic change in different past synchronies. Finally, it is argued that both the creation of a lexical item and its change of meaning involve pragmatic objectives, such as the need for users to express a new meaning related to a certain reality in the empirical world
Synapsin selectively controls the mobility of resting pool vesicles at hippocampal terminals
Presynaptic terminals are specialized sites for information transmission where vesicles fuse with the plasma membrane and are locally recycled. Recent work has extended this classical view, with the observation that a subset of functional vesicles is dynamically shared between adjacent terminals by lateral axonal transport. Conceptually, such transport would be expected to disrupt vesicle retention around the active zone, yet terminals are characterized by a high-density vesicle cluster, suggesting that counteracting stabilizing mechanisms must operate against this tendency. The synapsins are a family of proteins that associate with synaptic vesicles and determine vesicle numbers at the terminal, but their specific function remains controversial. Here, using multiple quantitative fluorescence-based approaches and electron microscopy, we show that synapsin is instrumental for resisting vesicle dispersion and serves as a regulatory element for controlling lateral vesicle sharing between synapses. Deleting synapsin disrupts the organization of presynaptic vesicle clusters, making their boundaries hard to define. Concurrently, the fraction of vesicles amenable to transport is increased, and more vesicles are translocated to the axon. Importantly, in neurons from synapsin knock-out mice the resting and recycling pools are equally mobile. Synapsin, when present, specifically restricts the mobility of resting pool vesicles without affecting the division of vesicles between these pools. Specific expression of synapsin IIa, the sole isoform affecting synaptic depression, rescues the knock-out phenotype. Together, our results show that synapsin is pivotal for maintaining synaptic vesicle cluster integrity and that it contributes to the regulated sharing of vesicles between terminals
Forest succession in a convective windstorm damage area in Manaus region, Central Amazon
- Natural disturbances are key processes for landscape formation and transformation. Yet, the
biotic and physiographic changes that occur are not exclusively related to disturbance.
Convective storms produce low frequency disturbances that affect the forest in different ways.
In the Amazon rainforest, downbursts are produced by convective storms embedded in squall
lines, and formed by the contrasting pressure and temperature between air masses. They are
followed by storms, strong winds and unusual electricity discharges. These downbursts cause
blowdowns that are characterized by intense tree mortality and changes in canopy structure.
The effect of blowdowns on the forest structure, associated regeneration, and succession
processes are not fully understood. This work describes the floristic composition and
horizontal structure, and the comparison between two different sites. One of them was a
(remaining) secondary forest after an intense blowdown associated with a squall line that
stuck the Amazon basin in January, 2005. The second was a pristine forest some 5 km far
from the disturbed area. In both sites the original vegetation is characterized by evergreen
forest with a mean canopy height of ~30 m. The studied sites are located in Manaus region, in
the Cuieras river basin (02 ̊33’ S; 60 ̊16’ W), state of Amazonas, Brazil. In the disturbed
forest the seed rain was measured during a 12 month period. The 1,944 trees sampled in the
disturbed forest were distribuit in 50 families, 143 genus and 284 species. Five years after the
disturbance, the stem density averaged 442.6 ± 46.5 stems.ha -1 (CI 95%) and basal area
averaged 17.6 ± 3.2 m 2 .ha -1 (CI= 95%). These means are lower than the pristine forest figures,
which averaged 584.3 ± 26.9 stems.ha -1 and 27.4 ± 1.8 m 2 .ha -1 , respectively. However, the
diameter distributions of pristine and disturbed forests have shown a very weak evidence (p=
0.864) that they are different suggesting that the storm damaged all of diameter size classes.
The density of dead stems was different between the pristine and disturbed areas (p<0.001). In
the disturbed areas, the sloped terrain had density of dead stems (130 ± 33 stems.ha -1 ) higher
than in (“baixios”) valleys (72,7 ± 29,9 stems.ha -1 ) and plateaus (93,7 ± 33,7 stems.ha -1 ) as
well. The tree species richness (284) and diversity (Shannon index: H’= 4.77 nats.ind. -1 ) in the
disturbed were lower than in the pristine forest (917 and 5.85, respectively). However, the
species richnnes and diversity of the disturbed forest were similar to those observed in other
forests in the Central Amazon. In the large gaps the density and frequency of pioneer species
were higher than in intact areas, which suggest that in large gaps the environmental conditions
are adequately to the pioneer species establishment. During one year period we found 5,366
seeds from 232 different tree species. The mean density of seeds was 24.8 ± 16.9 seeds.(m 2 ) -
1
.year -1 (CI= 95%), and the mean species richness was 14.9 ± 0.3 species.(m 2 ) -1 .year -1 (CI=
Nesta floresta,
cinco anos após o distúrbio, a densidade (442,6 ± 46,5 ind.ha -1 ) e a área basal (17,6 ± 3,2
m 2 .ha -1 ) do estrato mais danificado sĂŁo inferiores Ă s encontradas para a floresta nĂŁo-
perturbada (584,3 ± 25,9 ind.ha -1 e 27,4 ± 1,8 m 2 .ha -1 , respectivamente). Porém, a distribuição
(IC= 95%). A riqueza média foi de 14,9 ± 0,3 espécies.(m 2 ) -1 .ano -1 (IC= 95%), valor este que
variou ao longo dos meses (p< 0,00001)
Hygrothermal analysis of technical solutions for insulating the opaque building envelope
Abstract The application of insulating materials for energy refurbishment of buildings improves the thermal transmittance of the envelope. However, if not properly planned and realized, it could reduce the wall's drying potential, modifying its original features and leaving it generally more humid. This can lead to moisture damages, humid insulation material and risk of mould growth. To avoid any problem related to the increased presence of water in the building envelope, it becomes therefore essential to perform the so-called hygrothermal assessments. In this regard, the international standards offer, beside the traditional Glaser method based on the mere vapour transport, the use of dynamic hygrothermal simulations. These allow to simultaneously consider the transport and storage of heat and moisture in building materials, the influence of climate (including rain and solar radiation in different locations), user behaviour and initial conditions. The aim of this paper is to compare Glaser and dynamic methods and to highlight their advantages and disadvantages, considering the different approaches to the evaluation not only of superficial and interstitial condensation, but also of durability, considering biological attack, freeze/thaw cycles, corrosion, etc
componentes:
• Frontend Web – React
• Frontend Mobile – React Native
• Backend – NodeJS y Express
The objective of this work has been the design and development of a mobile application focused on crowdfunding, which is a method of collective financing through donations or pre-sales of a product. In this case, it is made through selling tickets for artists' concerts that are just starting out in the world of music and therefore they do not have the necessary resources to afford the cost of
this type of event.
The application is called “FundMyMusic” and it offers a website dedicated only to artists in
which they can create an account and through it be able to configure, publish and supervise the concerts that they are willing to make. On the other hand, the mobile application for Android offers
users the possibility of buying tickets for the concerts that are published in the application and in
this way, they will be helping the artist to obtain the necessary funds to carry out that concert and
also helping them step by step to reach more people and to grow in the world of music.
For the proper working of the application, the following components have been implemented
components:
• Frontend Web – React
• Frontend Mobile – React Native
• Backend – NodeJS and Express
• Data Base – MongoDBAbstract:
The objective of this project is to give a little more depth to the concept of procedural generation,
a topic on which I already did a piece of work within the Intelligent Interfaces subject, and in which
I have decided to delve into it. The idea with this project is to create a procedural generation tool that
is modifiable through a domain-specific language. With this I try to make the tool moldable and easily

The locus of language: metatheoretical reflections on the notion of language as a social fact in William Labov
This article deals with the notion of language as a social fact and its reworking undertaken by William Labov. Adopting an antireductionist posture, Labov considers it unnecessary to rely on the psychoindividual bases to explain the phenomenon of linguistic change. He resorts, thus, to the concept of speech community as the legitimate locus of language. Such attitude allows the emergence of certain theoretical and methodological inconsistencies.KEYWORDS: William Labov. Language. Social Fact. Speech Community.
