    Society As the Possible Villain in 'Menjelang Magrib': Social Thriller Critical Genre Analysis

    The aim of the study is to analyze the Indonesian film Menjelang Magrib released in 2022 using critical genre theory. The movie is potentially a social thriller, where the antagonist is not an individual but rather society. This qualitative research adopts a descriptive approach and will gather data through observation methods with heuristic and hermeneutic readings of selected character dialogues relevant to the topic of analysis. The findings indicate that the society in the film indeed serves as the antagonist, as it discriminates against a person with mental health problems by shackling her and acting selfishly towards the environment. The movie sheds light on the issue of discrimination and environmental degradation and depicts society as the cause of these problems. The use of critical genre theory provides a framework for understanding the societal elements at play in the film and helps to analyze the film's message and purpose. Overall, the study supports the notion that Menjelang Magrib can be analyzed as a social thriller, where society serves as the antagonist

    TWITTERATURE: A TEXTUAL ANALYSIS OF THE COMPILATION OF IDEAS OR THE DISCONNECTION OF IT

    Delivering ideas in a form of paragraphs, there are certain rules to follow for it to be accepted and easily understood by the targeted readers. However, with the rise of social media and the internet, there must be also changes in the world of language and literature. Some rules do not apply in this type of media, especially on Twitter. In 2012 Twivortiare, a novel consisting of a tweet compilation by Ika Natassa was released. This book is widely accepted by readers. In a text structure and text signal, this is very unusual. Using critical textual analysis the author finds out how ideas are being delivered in this type of literary work, whether it is disconnected or compiled. Through this analysis it is concluded that as long as the ideas are intact and can be understood by readers, twitterature is considered a literary work

    ABSTRAK   Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan pengaruh model Problem Based Learning dan minat baca terhadap keterampilan menulis karangan narasi siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 4 Payakumbuh. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan metode eksperimen. Jenis eksperimen yang digunakan adalah eksperimen semu (quasy-experimental) dengan desain factorial design (2X2). Pengambilan sampel penelitian dilakukan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X yang diambil dari dua kelas homogen. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data yaitu lembaran angket dan tes. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data yang dilakukan dapat disimpulkan empat hal sebagai berikut. Pertama, hasil tes keterampilan menulis karangan narasi siswa yang diajar menggunakan model Problem Based Learning lebih tinggi daripada siswa yang diajar menggunakan model konvensional. Kedua, hasil tes keterampilan menulis karangan narasi siswa yang mempunyai minat baca tinggi yang diajar menggunakan model Problem Based Learning lebih tinggi daripada siswa yang mempunyai minat baca tinggi yang diajar menggunakan model konvensional. Ketiga, hasil tes keterampilan menulis karangan narasi siswa yang mempunyai minat baca rendah yang diajar menggunakan model Problem Based Learning lebih tinggi daripada siswa yang mempunyai minat baca rendah yang diajar menggunakan model konvensional. Keempat, tidak terdapat interaksi antara model Problem Based Learning dengan minat baca dalam mempengaruhi keterampilan menulis karangan narasi. Kata kunci: pengaruh, Problem Based Learning, minat baca, narasi ABSTRACT  This research was aims to explain the effect of Problem Based Learning Model and reading interest toward writing narrative essay in class X of SMA 4 Payakumbuh. This research was a quantitative research that used experimental method. The type of experiment used is quasy-experimental with a factorial design (2X2). The research sample was taken using purposive sampling technique. The sample in this study were students of class X who were taken from two homogeneous classes. The instruments used to collect data were questionnaire sheets and tests. Based on the results of data analysis, there were four things that can be concluded. First, the test results of students’ writing in writing narrative essay that were taught by using problem based learning model is higher than students were taught by using conventional model. Second, the students’ test results in writing narrative essay that have a high interest in reading that were taught by using problem based learning model is higher than students who have a high interest in reading were taught by using the conventional model. Third, students’ the test results in writing narrative essay of students who have low reading were taught by using problem based learning model ware higher than students who have low interest in reading were taught by using the conventional model. Fourth, there is no interaction between the Problem Based Learning Model with reading interest in influencing writing narrative essay.     Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi representasi karakter perempuan dalam sastra anak Indonesia dengan menggunakan pendekatan ginokritik. Objek penelitian adalah novel Laut Bercerita karya Leila S. Chudori. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori ginokritik yang dikembangkan oleh Elaine Showalter. Penelitian dilakukan melalui analisis kualitatif novel, menggunakan teknik analisis isi dan close reading. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pentingnya menerapkan pendekatan ginokritik dalam menganalisis sastra anak, karena hal ini mengungkapkan representasi karakter perempuan yang kompleks dan nuansa dalam novel. Penelitian ini mengungkap bagaimana karakter perempuan dalam Laut Bercerita menunjukkan agensi, pemberdayaan, dan perlawanan terhadap norma patriarki, menantang stereotip gender tradisional. Implikasi penelitian ini mendorong penerapan pendekatan ginokritik dalam menganalisis sastra anak, sebagai alat yang kuat untuk mempromosikan kesetaraan gender dan membangun hubungan gender yang lebih adil dalam masyarakat Indonesia.This study explores the representation of female characters in Indonesian children's literature using a gynocritical approach. The object of the study is the novel Laut Bercerita by Leila S. Chudori. The study employs the gynocritical theory developed by Elaine Showalter, which focuses on the experiences and perspectives of women in literature. The research is conducted through a qualitative analysis of the novel, using content analysis and close reading techniques. The results of the study demonstrate the importance of applying a gynocritical approach in analyzing children's literature, as it uncovers the nuanced and complex representation of female characters in the novel. The study reveals how the female characters in Laut Bercerita exhibit agency, empowerment, and resistance to patriarchal norms, challenging traditional gender stereotypes. The study concludes that gynocritical readings can contribute to broader efforts to promote gender equality, challenging traditional gender stereotypes and promoting more equitable gender relations

    COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF GENDER PROGRESSION IN INDONESIAN LITERATURE: BUMI MANUSIA AND ANTOLOGI RASA

    This study investigates the learning and reinforcement of gender roles throughout people's lives and the evolution of women's roles in Indonesia. By conducting a comparative analysis of two novels (Bumi Manusia by Pramoedya Ananta Toer and Antologi Rasa by Ika Natassa) the study explores the depictions of gender progression in Indonesian literature. Specifically, the analysis focuses on how gender roles and expectations have evolved between the era depicted in both literary works. In Bumi Manusia, women are depicted in traditional roles such as prostitutes, mistresses, wives, helpers, and teachers, whereas in Antologi Rasa, women hold positions as respectable as men, highlighting the progress of gender equality in present times. Additionally, the analysis examines the autonomy of the characters in terms of education, career, and family choices, highlighting the freedom women characters have in Antologi Rasa compared to the restrictions placed upon women in Bumi Manusia. The comparison of these novels provides valuable insight into the changing attitudes and roles of women in Indonesian society

    ABSTRACT This research aimed at finding out the increase of student cooperation ability through the  implementation of the Power of Two learning strategy at the fourth grade of Babussalam  Elementary School Pekanbaru. It was a classroom action research. The subjects of this  research were a teacher and 16 of the fourth-grade students at Babussalam Elementary School  Pekanbaru. The objects were the Power of Two learning strategy with Corner Clock media  and cooperation ability. This research was conducted for two cycles, and every cycle  comprised two meetings. Documentation, observation, and test were the techniques of  collecting data. The technique of analyzing data was qualitative descriptive with percentage.  Based on the research findings and data analyses, the Power of Two learning strategy could  increase student cooperation ability. It could be seen from the upgrade graph of student Keyword : The Power of Two Learning Strategy, Cooperation Ability, Student of Elementary School   ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan kerja sama siswa melalui strategi pembelajaran the power of two di kelas IV SD Babussalam Pekanbaru. Penelitian ini  merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas dengan subjek penelitian 1 orang guru dan 16 orang  siswa kelas IV SD Babussalam Pekanbaru, dan objek penelitiannya adalah strategi pembelajaran the power of two sudut dan kemampuan kerja sama. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus, setiap siklus terdiri dari dua kali pertemuan. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah dokumentasi, observasi, dan tes, sedangkan teknik analisisnya adalah  deskriptif kualitatif dengan persentase. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dan analisis data,  diketahui strategi pembelajaran the power of two dapat meningatkan kemampuan kerja sama  siswa. Hal tersebut dapat dilihat dari grafik peningkatan kemampuan kerja sama siswa sejak pra-siklus yang hanya mencapai nilai rata-rata 56,87 dengan kategori rendah, lalu meningkat pada siklus I menjadi 57,96 dengan kategori rendah, dan meningkat kembali pada siklus II  dengan nilai rata-rata 84,06 atau berada pada kategori baik. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa strategi pembelajaran the power of two dapat meningkatkan kemampuan  kerja sama siswa di kelas IV SD Babussalam Pekanbaru.
