User requirements for monitoring the evolution of stratospheric ozone at high vertical resolution (‘Operoz’: Operational ozone observations using limb geometry)
The purpose of the Operoz study has been threefold:
(i) To establish the user requirements for an operational mission targeting ozone profiles at high vertical resolution,
(ii) To identify the observational gaps with respect to these user requirements taking into account planned operational missions and observational ground networks, and
(iii) To perform a reality check on the observational requirements based on proven concepts and present-day knowledge of potentially available measurement techniques and to identify options for a small to medium size satellite mission
Prototyping the Semantics of a DSL using ASF+SDF: Link to Formal Verification of DSL Models
A formal definition of the semantics of a domain-specific language (DSL) is a
key prerequisite for the verification of the correctness of models specified
using such a DSL and of transformations applied to these models. For this
reason, we implemented a prototype of the semantics of a DSL for the
specification of systems consisting of concurrent, communicating objects. Using
this prototype, models specified in the DSL can be transformed to labeled
transition systems (LTS). This approach of transforming models to LTSs allows
us to apply existing tools for visualization and verification to models with
little or no further effort. The prototype is implemented using the ASF+SDF
Meta-Environment, an IDE for the algebraic specification language ASF+SDF,
which offers efficient execution of the transformation as well as the ability

The Atacama Cosmology Telescope: Two-Season ACTPol Lensing Power Spectrum
We report a measurement of the power spectrum of cosmic microwave background
(CMB) lensing from two seasons of Atacama Cosmology Telescope Polarimeter
(ACTPol) CMB data. The CMB lensing power spectrum is extracted from both
temperature and polarization data using quadratic estimators. We obtain results
that are consistent with the expectation from the best-fit Planck LCDM model
over a range of multipoles L=80-2100, with an amplitude of lensing A_lens =
1.06 +/- 0.15 (stat.) +/- 0.06 (sys.) relative to Planck. Our measurement of
the CMB lensing power spectrum gives sigma_8 Omega_m^0.25 = 0.643 +/- 0.054;
including baryon acoustic oscillation scale data, we constrain the amplitude of
density fluctuations to be sigma_8 = 0.831 +/- 0.053. We also update
constraints on the neutrino mass sum. We verify our lensing measurement with a
number of null tests and systematic checks, finding no evidence of significant
systematic errors. This measurement relies on a small fraction of the ACTPol
data already taken; more precise lensing results can therefore be expected from

The genome sequence and transcriptome of Potentilla micrantha and their comparison to Fragaria vesca (the woodland strawberry)
Background
The genus Potentilla is closely related to that of Fragaria, the economically important strawberry genus. Potentilla micrantha is a species that does not develop berries, but shares numerous morphological and ecological characteristics with F. vesca. These similarities make P. micrantha an attractive choice for comparative genomics studies with F. vesca
Findings
In this study, the Potentilla micrantha genome was sequenced and annotated, and RNA-Seq data from the different developmental stages of flowering and fruiting were used to develop a set of gene predictions. A 327 Mbp sequence and annotation of the genome of P. micrantha, spanning 2,674 sequence contigs, with an N50 size of 335,712, estimated to cover 80% of the total genome size of the species was developed. The genus Potentilla has a characteristically larger genome size than Fragaria, but the recovered sequence scaffolds were remarkably collinear at the micro-syntenic level with the genome of F. vesca, its closest sequenced relative. A total of 33,602 genes were predicted, and 95.1% of BUSCO genes were complete within the presented sequence. Thus, we argue that the majority of the gene-rich regions of the genome have been sequenced
Conclusions
Comparisons of RNA-Seq data from the stages of floral and fruit development revealed genes differentially expressed between P. micrantha and F. vesca. The data presented are a valuable resource for future studies of berry development in Fragaria and the Rosaceae and they also shed light on the evolution of genome size and organization in this family
The Atacama Cosmology Telescope: Two-Season ACTPol Spectra and Parameters
We present the temperature and polarization angular power spectra measured by
the Atacama Cosmology Telescope Polarimeter (ACTPol). We analyze night-time
data collected during 2013-14 using two detector arrays at 149 GHz, from 548
deg of sky on the celestial equator. We use these spectra, and the spectra
measured with the MBAC camera on ACT from 2008-10, in combination with Planck
and WMAP data to estimate cosmological parameters from the temperature,
polarization, and temperature-polarization cross-correlations. We find the new
ACTPol data to be consistent with the LCDM model. The ACTPol
temperature-polarization cross-spectrum now provides stronger constraints on
multiple parameters than the ACTPol temperature spectrum, including the baryon
density, the acoustic peak angular scale, and the derived Hubble constant.
Adding the new data to planck temperature data tightens the limits on damping
tail parameters, for example reducing the joint uncertainty on the number of
neutrino species and the primordial helium fraction by 20%.Comment: 23 pages, 25 figure
Effects of chemotherapy on contralateral breast cancer risk in BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutation carriers:A nationwide cohort study
AIM: BRCA1/2 mutation carriers with primary breast cancer (PBC) are at high risk of contralateral breast cancer (CBC). In a nationwide cohort, we investigated the effects of chemotherapeutic agents given for PBC on CBC risk separately in BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutation carriers. PATIENTS AND METHODS: BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation carriers with an invasive PBC diagnosis from 1990 to 2017 were selected from a Dutch cohort. We estimated cumulative CBC incidence using competing risks analysis. Hazard ratios (HR) for the effect of neo-adjuvant or adjuvant chemotherapy and different chemotherapeutic agents on CBC risk were estimated using Cox regression. RESULTS: We included 1090 BRCA1 and 568 BRCA2 mutation carriers; median follow-up was 8.9 and 8.4 years, respectively. Ten-year cumulative CBC incidence for treatment with and without chemotherapy was 6.7% [95%CI: 5.1–8.6] and 16.7% [95%CI: 10.8–23.7] in BRCA1 and 4.8% [95%CI: 2.7–7.8] and 16.0% [95%CI: 9.3–24.4] in BRCA2 mutation carriers, respectively. Chemotherapy was associated with reduced CBC risk in BRCA1 (multivariable HR: 0.46, 95%CI: 0.29–0.74); a similar trend was observed in BRCA2 mutation carriers (HR: 0.63, 95%CI: 0.29–1.39). In BRCA1, risk reduction was most pronounced in the first 5 years (HR: 0.32, 95%CI: 0.17–0.61). Anthracyclines and the combination of anthracyclines with taxanes were associated with substantial CBC risk reduction in BRCA1 carriers (HR: 0.34, 95%CI: 0.17–0.68 and HR: 0.22, 95%CI: 0.08–0.62, respectively). CONCLUSION: Risk-reducing effects of chemotherapy are substantial for at least 5 years and may be used in personalised CBC risk prediction in any case for BRCA1 mutation carriers
The Atacama Cosmology Telescope: Millimeter Observations of a Population of Asteroids or: ACTeroids
We present fluxes and light curves for a population of asteroids at
millimeter (mm) wavelengths, detected by the Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT)
over 18, 000 deg2 of the sky using data from 2017 to 2021. We utilize high
cadence maps, which can be used in searching for moving objects such as
asteroids and trans-Neptunian Objects (TNOs), as well as for studying
transients. We detect 160 asteroids with a signal-to-noise of at least 5 in at
least one of the ACT observing bands, which are centered near 90, 150, and 220
GHz. For each asteroid, we compare the ACT measured flux to predicted fluxes
from the Near Earth Asteroid Thermal Model (NEATM) fit to WISE data. We confirm
previous results that detected a deficit of flux at millimeter wavelengths.
Moreover, we report a spectral characteristic to this deficit, such that the
flux is relatively lower at 150 and 220 GHz than at 90 GHz. Additionally, we
find that the deficit in flux is greater for S-type asteroids than for C-type.Comment: 15 pages, 9 Figures, 4 Table
Genome-wide association study identifies loci on 12q24 and 13q32 associated with Tetralogy of Fallot
We conducted a genome-wide association study to search for risk alleles associated with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), using a northern European discovery set of 835 cases and 5159 controls. A region on chromosome 12q24 was associated (P = 1.4 × 10−7) and replicated convincingly (P = 3.9 × 10−5) in 798 cases and 2931 controls [per allele odds ratio (OR) = 1.27 in replication cohort, P = 7.7 × 10−11 in combined populations]. Single nucleotide polymorphisms in the glypican 5 gene on chromosome 13q32 were also associated (P = 1.7 × 10−7) and replicated convincingly (P = 1.2 × 10−5) in 789 cases and 2927 controls (per allele OR = 1.31 in replication cohort, P = 3.03 × 10−11 in combined populations). Four additional regions on chromosomes 10, 15 and 16 showed suggestive association accompanied by nominal replication. The Atacama Cosmology Telescope: Cosmology from cross-correlations of unWISE galaxies and ACT DR6 CMB lensing
We present tomographic measurements of structure growth using
cross-correlations of Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT) DR6 and Planck CMB
lensing maps with the unWISE Blue and Green galaxy samples, which span the
redshift ranges and , respectively. We improve on prior unWISE cross-correlations not just by
making use of the new, high-precision ACT DR6 lensing maps, but also by
including additional spectroscopic data for redshift calibration and by
analysing our measurements with a more flexible theoretical model. An extensive
suite of systematic and null tests within a blind analysis framework ensures
that our results are robust. We determine the amplitude of matter fluctuations
at low redshifts (), finding using the ACT cross-correlation alone and with a combination of Planck and ACT cross-correlations; these
measurements are fully consistent with the predictions from primary CMB
measurements assuming standard structure growth. The addition of Baryon
Acoustic Oscillation data breaks the degeneracy between and
, allowing us to measure from the
cross-correlation of unWISE with ACT and from the
combination of cross-correlations with ACT and Planck. These results also agree
with the expectations from primary CMB extrapolations in CDM
cosmology; the consistency of derived from our two redshift samples
at and provides a further check of our cosmological model.
Our results suggest that structure formation on linear scales is well described
