El rechazo de las mujeres mayores viudas a volverse a emparejar: cuestión de género y cambio social

The aim of this paper is delving into the attitudes by widowed older people in Spain around the possibility of repartnering, whether it is through marriage or mere cohabitation. A qualitative methodology with a sociological lens, in the way of discussion groups, has been implemented. Main research findings show that widowed older persons –particularly women, are scarcely interested in initiating a relationship with a new partner. There are diverse reasons for this lack of interest. In some cases, older widows are just bounded to traditional moral rules such as not allowing anyone to seize the place of their first husband, or a fear of familial and social criticism. However, there are more powerful reasons: unwillingness to partner with someone who is older, a wish to preserve their own freedom and independency, or a determination to safeguard their autonomy. These reasons allow us to glimpse an important change in terms of how older women understand bothold age and relationships between genders.El objetivo de este artículo es indagar sobre las actitudes personas mayores viudas en España respecto a la posibilidad de formar otra pareja, sea celebrando otro matrimonio o conviviendo con alguien sin llegar a casarse. Lo hacemos desde una óptica sociológica, aplicando metodología cualitativa y, en concreto, la técnica del grupo de discusión. De los resultados cabe destacar que iniciar una relación de pareja despierta un interés muy escaso, particularmente entre las mujeres, por diversas razones. Aunque en algunas de ellas influyen valores tradicionales (como, por ejemplo, el no querer poner a nadie en el lugar de su primer marido o el temor a recibir la crítica familiar y social), cuenta tanto o más otra serie de motivaciones (como el renunciar a emparejarse con alguien mayor que ellas, el mantener su libertad y su independencia, la defensa de su autonomía) que permiten entrever la existencia de un importante cambio en el modo en que las mujeres mayores conciben la vejez y las relaciones entre los géneros

Melanoma of the oral mucosa with cerebral metastasis: a clinical case

SummaryOral melanoma (OM) is an infrequent neoplasia making up less than 1% of all melanomas, and which exhibits a much more aggressive behaviour than those found on the skin. We present a case of OM located on the hard palate, vestibular alveolar gingiva of the maxilla, and upper lip in a 75-year-old patient who developed a distant metastasis on the left parietal lobe. The advanced stage of the disease contraindicated any surgical intervention and it was decided to carry out palliative radiotherapy, but the patient died before treatment

Vectores y rectas en el plano: una propuesta didáctica para el primer curso de Bachillerato

Este trabajo se trata de una propuesta didáctica para una unidad de rectas y vectores en el curso de 1º de Bachillerato, para composición de la misma hemos realizado un pequeño estudio de los errores cometidos por los alumnos de instituto y tratamos de evitar que transmitir estos errores introduciendo los conceptos de manera que los alumnos descubran sus razones de ser y tratando también que los alumnos lleguen a las técnicas de resolución de los problemas a través de la busqueda de las mismas resolviendo una serie de problemas. En el trabajo se muestran algunos de estos problemas asi como todas las técnicas y muchas de las tecnologias que las justifican así como algunos ejercicios para trabajar técnicas y también se proponen tanto una secuenciación de las sesiones a realizar con el contenido de cada una de ellas asi como un diseño de examen junto con una propuesta acerca de como corregir el mismo.<br /

[ES] Las nuevas tecnologías han facilitado una nueva herramienta para la difusión de contenidos históricos. A la realización de plantas y perfiles arqueológicos, la toma de fotografía sobre el terreno y su posterior publicación en trabajos de investigación, se ha añadido otros medios, publicados en otros soportes, como la reconstrucción 3d de restos arqueológicos, tanto muebles como inmuebles, visitas guiadas o libres a mundos virtuales, audiovisuales o páginas webs. El enterramiento múltiple, calcolítico, de Camino del Molino (Caravaca, Murcia). Metodología y primeros resultados de un yacimiento excepcional

The preliminary results of the excavation of a multiple burial cave are presented. Itt contains remains of more than 1,300 individuals, in what it seems to be the complete representation of a chalcolithic population of the second half of the third millenium B.C. deposited during a continuous period of approximately 450 years. A small part of this population is accompanied by grave goods that include some metallic elements typical of the bell-beaker horizon. Also dogs accompanyied various burials. The exceptional character of the find and the circumstances of the excavation required the development of a new methodology for this type of excavation.Se presentan los resultados preliminares de la excavación de un enterramiento múltiple en cueva que contiene restos de más de 1300 individuos, en lo que parece ser la representación completa de una población calcolítica de la segunda mitad del III milenio a.C. depositada durante un período continuado de unos 350-400 años. Una pequeña parte de esa población se acompaña de un ajuar que incluye, entre otros elementos, algunos elementos metálicos característicos del horizonte campaniforme. También se documenta el enterramiento de cánidos acompañando a diversos inhumados. El carácter excepcional del hallazgo y las circunstancias de la excavación han obligado a un desarrollo metodológico novedoso para este tipo de actuaciones

Suppression of thermoacoustic instabilities by flame-structure interaction

We present here an experimental study of the influence of the aeroelastic coupling between the combustion chamber walls and the acoustic fluid field on the onset and development of thermoacoustic instabilitiesin stoichiometric propane-air premixed flames. A horizontal quasi-two-dimensional Hele-Shaw chamber formed by two parallel plates separated a small distance h is used. The flames are ignited at the open end, in contact with the atmosphere, and propagate towards the opposite closed end. The experiments reveal three distinct propagation regimes determined by the stiffness of the plates and the evolution of the pressure perturbation generated during ignition: (i) for sufficiently rigid plates, we observed secondary acoustic instabilities with large amplitude oscillations in the direction of propagation of the flame; for flexible enough walls to be compliant with ignition-related pressure changes, (ii) the propagation of the flame undergoes small-amplitude oscillations (primary acoustic instabilities) along the channel or (iii) it is smooth with no oscillations whatsoever. The flexural rigidity of the plate is modified experimentally by changing both the widthW and thickness hw of the top plate of the Hele-Shaw cell. The data recorded by the pressure transducer and the accelerometer is used to plot a stability map in the W - hw parametric space to define the combination of structural parameters that triggers the onset of thermoacoustic instabilities. Our experimental measurements, supplemented with results from a theoretical analysis of the walls vibration modes, indicated that deformation-induced volume changes of around 0.1% of the volume of the Hele-Shaw cell are sufficient to suppress thermoacoustic instabilities.This work was funded by the Agencia Estatal de Investigación of Spain under grants PID2019-108592RA-C43 and PID2019-108592RB-C41, and by the Regional Government of Madrid (Comunidad de Madrid-Spain) under the Multiannual Agreement with UC3M (H2SFE-CM-UC3M). Financiación de las pymes en la Comunidad Valenciana: estudio empírico

This paper analyses the difficulties that small firms have in obtaining finance within the private sector of credit, and also the repercussions they have 011 the growth of these very companies. Furthermore, we have studied the relationship between finance and investment, and provided empirical evidence about the degree of additionality that other financial sources can offer. Our research is based on a sample of small firms randomly selected and on the opinions given by their managing directors. Our findings show that significant finance restrictions for the development of these companies do not exist in spite of the unquestionable disadvantages that they face up when competing with large firms. Finally, the additionality detected in relation to other alternative mechanisms might be considered to be irre1evant. La presente investigación analiza las dificultades a las que se enfrentan las pymes para conseguir financiación en el mercado de crédito privado y la incidencia que ello tiene sobre sus posibilidades de crecimiento. También, hemos tratado de analizar la intel1'elación entre financiación e inversión y obtener evidencia empírica acerca del grado de adicionalidad que otras fuentes de financiación puedan ofrecer a dicho mercado. El trabajo se ha desarrollado a través de la explotación de las opiniones manifestadas por los responsables de una muestra de empresas seleccionada con criterios de aleatoriedad. Los resultados señalan que no han existido barreras significativas al desarrollo de las pymes imputables al mercado de crédito, pese a las indudables desventajas con que compiten frente a las grandes empresas. Pesticide Exposure Alters Follicle-Stimulating Hormone Levels in Mexican Agricultural Workers

Organophosphorous pesticides (OPs) are suspected of altering reproductive function by reducing brain acetylcholinesterase activity and monoamine levels, thus impairing hypothalamic and/or pituitary endocrine functions and gonadal processes. Our objective was to evaluate in a longitudinal study the association between OP exposure and serum levels of pituitary and sex hormones. Urinary OP metabolite levels were measured by gas–liquid chromatography, and serum pituitary and sex hormone levels by enzymatic immunoassay and radioimmunoassay in 64 men. A total of 147 urine and blood samples were analyzed for each parameter. More than 80% of the participants had at least one OP metabolite in their urine samples. The most frequent metabolite found was diethylthiophosphate (DETP; 55%), followed by diethylphosphate (DEP; 46%), dimethylthiophosphate (DMTP; 32%), and dimethyldithiophosphate (DMDTP; 31%). However, the metabolites detected at higher concentrations were DMTP, DEP, DMDTP, and dimethylphosphate. There was a high proportion of individuals with follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) concentrations outside the range of normality (48%). The average FSH serum levels were higher during the heavy pesticide spraying season. However, a multivariate analysis of data collected in all periods showed that serum FSH levels were negatively associated with urinary concentrations of both DMTP and DMDTP, whereas luteinizing hormone (LH) was negatively associated with DMTP. We observed no significant associations between estradiol or testosterone serum levels with OP metabolites. The hormonal disruption in agricultural workers presented here, together with results from experimental animal studies, suggests that OP exposure disrupts the hypothalamic–pituitary endocrine function and also indicates that FSH and LH are the hormones most affected
