    Análisis de libros de texto de matemáticas desde una perspectiva de género

    Como formador de formadores, debemos hacer que el futuro profesorado tome conciencia sobre la necesidad de conseguir una sociedad inclusiva, innovadora y reflexiva que proporcione a las futuras generaciones una formación matemática de calidad. La perspectiva de género resulta un enfoque esencial, cuya incorporación en los contenidos de investigación e innovación se considera elemento fundamental para introducir factores actitudinales, emocionales y formativos. Situamos esta perspectiva en el epicentro, para fomentar la presencia de mujeres en carreras universitarias de Ciencia y Tecnología. En el trabajo que aquí presentamos se muestran los primeros resultados, tras analizar mediante un instrumento diseñado por el grupo de investigación, distintas unidades didácticas, contenidas en libros de textos de secundaria de diversas editoriales, para valorar la potencialidad formativa de las mismas desde una perspectiva de género. Se pretende averiguar las principales carencias y limitaciones de las unidades analizadas y establecer prioridades y recomendaciones para mejorar la calidad de la Educación Matemática en nuestro entorno y optimizar el material curricular creado por las editoriales. De forma general, los primeros resultados, muestran que, de acuerdo con la primera categoría de análisis, “imagen de la ciencia”, los libros de texto están lejos de mostrar una imagen colaborativa, no estereotipada, profesional, conectada con la vida real y más allá de lo empírico; con respecto a la segunda “conocimiento de referentes femeninos”, no se visibiliza a las mujeres, sus aportaciones y los contextos sociales en los que se crearon. Y por último respecto a la categoría de “lenguaje e imagen no sexista”, observamos que no se emplean alternativas al masculino genérico, y que tanto el lenguaje como en la imagen, siguen apareciendo, mayoritariamente, sin cuidar los rasgos sexistas.Universidad de Málaga.     Integrated Analysis of Germline and Tumor DNA Identifies New Candidate Genes Involved in Familial Colorectal Cancer

    Colorectal cancer (CRC) shows aggregation in some families but no alterations in the known hereditary CRC genes. We aimed to identify new candidate genes which are potentially involved in germline predisposition to familial CRC. An integrated analysis of germline and tumor whole-exome sequencing data was performed in 18 unrelated CRC families. Deleterious single nucleotide variants (SNV), short insertions and deletions (indels), copy number variants (CNVs) and loss of heterozygosity (LOH) were assessed as candidates for first germline or second somatic hits. Candidate tumor suppressor genes were selected when alterations were detected in both germline and somatic DNA, fulfilling Knudson's two-hit hypothesis. Somatic mutational profiling and signature analysis were also performed. A series of germline-somatic variant pairs were detected. In all cases, the first hit was presented as a rare SNV/indel, whereas the second hit was either a different SNV (3 genes) or LOH affecting the same gene (141 genes). BRCA2, BLM, ERCC2, RECQL, REV3L and RIF1 were among the most promising candidate genes for germline CRC predisposition. The identification of new candidate genes involved in familial CRC could be achieved by our integrated analysis. Further functional studies and replication in additional cohorts are required to confirm the selected candidates

    Risk factors and outcome of COVID-19 in patients with hematological malignancies

    Background: Prognostic factors of poor outcome in patients with hematological malignancies and COVID-19 are poorly defned. Patients and methods: This was a Spanish transplant group and cell therapy (GETH) multicenter retrospective observational study, which included a large cohort of blood cancer patients with laboratory-confrmed SARS-CoV-2 infection through PCR assays from March 1st 2020 to May 15th 2020. Results: We included 367 pediatric and adult patients with hematological malignancies, including recipients of autologous (ASCT) (n=58) or allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT) (n=65) from 41 hospitals in Spain. Median age of patients was 64 years (range 1-93.8). Recipients of ASCT and allo-SCT showed lower mortality rates (17% and 18%, respectively) compared to non-SCT patients (31%) (p=0.02). Prognostic factors identifed for day 45 overall mortality (OM) by logistic regression multivariate analysis included age>70 years [odds ratio (OR) 2.1, 95% con‑ fdence interval (CI) 1.2-3.8, p=0.011]; uncontrolled hematological malignancy (OR 2.9, 95% CI 1.6-5.2, p20 mg/dL (OR 3.3, 95% CI 1.7-6.4, p<0.0001). In multivariate analysis of 216 patients with very severe COVID-19, treatment with azithromycin or low dose corticosteroids was associated with lower OM (OR 0.42, 95% CI 0.2-0.89 and OR 0.31, 95% CI 0.11-0.87, respectively, p=0.02) whereas the use of hidroxycloroquine did not show signifcant improvement in OM (OR 0.64, 95% CI 0.37-1.1, P=0.1). Conclusions: In most patients with hematological malignancies COVID-19 mortality was directly driven by older age, disease status, performance status, as well as by immune (neutropenia) parameters and level of infammation (high CRP). Use of azithromycin and low dose corticosteroids may be of value in very severe COVID-19

    Wild Bonelli's eagles (Aquila fasciata) as carrier of antimicrobial resistant Salmonella and Campylobacter in Eastern Spain

    [EN] Wild birds have repeatedly been found to be involved in the dissemination of enteric bacterial pathogens in the environment. The aim of this study was to determine the occurrence of Salmonella and Campylobacter as well as the antimicrobial resistance in wild Bonelli's eagles nestlings in Eastern Spain. In addition, we compared the efficiency of two sampling methods (fresh faecal samples from nest and cloacal swabs from nestlings) for detection of both bacteria. A total of 28 nests with 45 nestlings were analysed. In the nest, Salmonella occurrence was 61 +/- 9.2%, while Campylobacter occurrence was 11 +/- 5.8% (p < 0.05). In the nestlings, Salmonella occurrence was 36 +/- 7.1%, while Campylobacter occurrence was 11 +/- 4.7% (p < 0.05). Eight Salmonella serovars were identified, and the most frequently isolated were S. Enteritidis, S. Typhimurium, S. Houston, and S. Cerro. Only one Campylobacter species was identified (C. jejuni). Regarding antimicrobial resistance, the Salmonella strains isolated were found to be most frequently resistant to ampicillin and to tigecycline; however, the sole Campylobacter strain recovered was multidrug resistant. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that wild Bonelli's eagles nestlings are greater carriers of Salmonella than of Campylobacter. Both Salmonella and Campylobacter isolates exhibited antimicrobial resistance.
