Livestock production in Timor-Leste is predominantly familiar being chickens, pigs, goats, cattle, horses, buffaloes and sheep the main species. The livestock species play very important economic and sociocultural roles for the well-being of rural households, such as food supply, source of income, asset saving, source of employment, soil fertility, livelihoods, transport, agricultural traction, agricultural diversification and sustainable agricultural production. The aim of this work was to identify and characterize the different roles that livestock and livestock species play in rural communities of Timor-Leste, highlighting the importance of animal production for the wellbeing and rural development, and relate the functions performed by livestock production with economic, social and cultural attributes of the communities. The data used in this study were collected in 2011 through a questionnaire survey in three rural communities in the district of Bobonaro -mountain area, irrigation plain and coastal zone, and were complemented with secondary dat

Let M be a surface and R : M -> M an area-preserving C-infinity diffeomorphism which is an involution and whose set of fixed points is a submanifold with dimension one. We will prove that C-1 - generically either an area-preserving R-reversible diffeomorphism, is Anosov, or, for mu-almost every x is an element of M, the Lyapunov exponents at x vanish or else the orbit of x belongs to a compact hyperbolic set with an empty interior. We will also describe a nonempty C-1-open subset of area-preserving R-reversible diffeomorphisms where for C-1 - generically each map is either Anosov or its Lyapunov exponents vanish from almost everywhere

Aesthetic Education and Sensitivity from the Thought of Friedrich Schiller

    Get PDF
In this article, we reflect on the aesthetic formation of man from the dialogue established between Friedrich Schiller and the Duke of Augustenburg, what we know today as the letters of Schiller. We try to problematize some theoretical assumptions present in these letters regarding the subject and how this constructions shapes subjectivity from aesthetic sensations. The objective of this research is to understand the (de) appreciation of the sensitive and the (dis) equilibrium between human nature, sensibility and aesthetic education of man, with Schiller's letters as a universe of reflection. It is a research of a bibliographic nature, of an exploratory-descriptive nature. The premises presented in the present study point out that the questions raised by the philosopher are still present to the understanding of how aesthetic formation dialogues with the constitution of subjectivities, morality and, above all, with the appreciation of sensitivities as mobilizers of human existence

Copyright © 1997-99 Arquivos Brasileiros de CardiologiaObjective – To evaluate echocardiography accuracy in performing and obtaining images for dynamical threedimensional (3D) reconstruction. Methods – Three-dimensional (3D) image reconstruction was obtained in 20 consecutive patients who underwent transesophageal echocardiography. A multiplanar 5 MHz transducer was used for 3D reconstruction. Results – Twenty patients were studied consecutively. The following cardiac diseases were present: valvar prostheses – 6 (2 mitral, 2 aortic and 2 mitral and aortic); mitral valve prolapse – 3; mitral and aortic disease – 2; aortic valve disease – 5; congenital heart disease – 3 (2 atrial septal defect –ASD- and 1 transposition of the great arteries -TGA); arteriovenous fistula – 1. In 7 patients, color Doppler was also obtained and used for 3D flow reconstruction. Twenty five cardiac structures were acquired and 60 reconstructions generated (28 of mitral valves, 14 of aortic valves, 4 of mitral prostheses, 7 of aortic prostheses and 7 of the ASD). Fifty five of 60 (91.6%) reconstructions were considered of good quality by 2 independent observers. The 11 reconstructed mitral valves/prostheses and the 2 reconstructed ASDs provided more anatomical information than two dimensional echocardiography (2DE) alone. Conclusion – 3D echocardiography using a transesophageal transducer is a feasible technique, which improves detection of anatomical details of cardiac structures, particularly of the mitral valve and atrial septum.

The role of the saddle-foci on the structure of a Bykov attractor

    Get PDF
We consider a one-parameter family ( fλ)λ 0 of symmetric vector fields on the three-dimensional sphere whose flows exhibit a heteroclinic network between two saddle-foci inside a global attracting set. More precisely, when λ = 0, there is an attracting heteroclinic cycle between the two equilibria which is made of two 1- dimensional connections together with a 2-dimensional sphere which is both the stable manifold of one saddle-focus and the unstable manifold of the other. After slightly increasing the parameter while keeping the 1-dimensional connections unaltered, the two-dimensional invariant manifolds of the equilibria become transversal, and thereby create homoclinic and heteroclinic tangles. It is known that these newborn structures are the source of a countable union of topological horseshoes, which prompt the coexistence of infinitely many sinks and saddle-type invariant sets for many values of λ. We show that, for every small enough positive parameter λ, the stable and unstable manifolds of the saddle-foci and those infinitely many horseshoes are contained in the global attracting set of fλ; moreover, the horseshoes belong to the heteroclinic class of the equilibria. In addition, we show that the set of chain-accessible points from either of the saddle-foci is chain-stable and contains the closure of the invariant manifolds of the two equilibria.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
