An Analysis of the Dependence of the Spanish Fisheries Industry on the Financial Instrument for Fisheries Guidance
Fisheries are an important economic sector in the EU subject to an important restructuring in the most recent years. The Financial Instrument for Fisheries Guidance (FIFG) has been the tool deployed by the European authorities to increase the competitiveness and to modernize this industry. As far as Spain is concerned, it has been verified that it is the European country receiving more funds in the recent years. The aim of this paper is to examine the financial situation of the Spanish fisheries firms, determining their indebtedness, solvency, and profitability. We also analyse if those firms included in the Fisheries sector show differences statistically significant. Along the same lines, one of the aims of the study is to carry out an analysis of the financial needs of these firms, considering the extent to which the European funds received along the latest years may have helped Fisheries the industry in Spain
European regional policy: Analysis of the management reports of structural funds 2000-2006
The present work endeavours to carry out a study of the weaknesses/\ud
errors detected by the European Court of Auditors (ECA) in the reports presented by 15 European countries on the economic and financial management of Structural Funds in the period ranging from 2000 to 2006. The aim of our study is focused on the description and analysis of the number and nature of the errors/weaknesses
Does Consumption of Ultra-Processed Foods Matter for Liver Health? Prospective Analysis among Older Adults with Metabolic Syndrome
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) includes a spectrum of liver alterations that can result in severe disease and even death. Consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPF) has been associated with obesity and related comorbidities. However, the link between UPF and NAFLD has not been sufficiently assessed. We aimed to investigate the prospective association between UPF consumption and liver health biomarkers. Methods: We followed for 1 year 5867 older participants with overweight/obesity and metabolic syndrome (MetS) from the PREDIMED-Plus trial. A validated 143-item semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire was used to evaluate consumption of UPF at baseline, 6, and 12 months. The degree of processing for foods and beverages (g/day) was established according to the NOVA classification system. The non-invasive fatty liver index (FLI) and hepatic steatosis index (HSI) were used to evaluate liver health at three points in time. The associations between changes in UPF consumption (percentage of total daily dietary intake (g)) and liver biomarkers were assessed using mixed-effects linear models with repeated measurements. Results: In this cohort, UPF consumption at baseline was 8.19% (SD 6.95%) of total daily dietary intake in grams. In multivariable models, each 10% daily increment in UPF consumption in 1 year was associated with significantly greater FLI (β 1.60 points, 95% CI 1.24;1.96 points) and HSI (0.43, 0.29; 0.57) scores (all p-values < 0.001). These associations persisted statistically significant after adjusting for potential dietary confounders and NAFLD risk factors. Conclusions: A higher UPF consumption was associated with higher levels of NAFLD-related biomarkers in older adults with overweight/obesity and MetS

processing affect the provision of public services. One of the main priorities of governments is to
achieve greater efficiency in the provision of public services and e-government is one of several
measures implemented. Our study aims to determine how e-government and efficiency affects
the provision of public services in general, and also by functions. We apply a different model to
calculate efficiency of the provision of public services and by function. Our empirical analysis,
which included correlation and multiple linear regressions, was applied in 2012-2014 for a single
cross-section of 35 economies. The resultsshow a significant relationship between e-government and
efficiency. Furthermore, we obtain a significant relation between Online Services, Telecommunication
Infrastructure and Human Capital with efficiency in the provision of public services
Internet penetration and international travel and tourism expenditure: The role of foreign exchange control
The total amount of digital travel sales worldwide increases significantly every year, yet previous
studies on outbound tourism expenditures have scarcely discussed the role of foreign exchange
control (Fxc) as a barrier to e-internationalization. In the era of e-commerce, residents of more
than 40 economies are not allowed to buy or pay for foreign products by the Internet. This article,
with data from 95 economies in the period 2012–2017, concludes that Internet penetration
development increases international tourism expenditure. On the other hand, the control of
foreign exchange decreases the relationship between internet penetration and tourism expenditure. Therefore, Fxc is clearly a barrier to electronic internationalization and tourism expenditure©2021.
