Yield management research through the analysis of scientific journals: preliminary results

    Get PDF
The aim of this paper is to analyse articles relating to Yield Management published in a selection of journals at international level during the period 1996-2002. These will then subsequently be classified in accordance with List of Tourism Characteristic Products (drawn up by the World Tourism Organization and included in the Tourism Satellite Account), with a view to determining, on the one hand, which sectors data on Yield Management application is available for and, on the other, exploring new sectors that can be studied and researched. This paper forms part of a broader based paper which analyses publications relating to Yield Management in texts and monographs. The general goal of this line of research is to offer future researchers a methodical and exhaustive analysis of bibliography and research work done on the subject

Small and large intestine express a truncated Dab1 isoform that assembles in cell-cell junctions and co-localizes with proteins involved in endocytosis

Disabled-1 (Dab1) is an essential intracellular adaptor protein in the reelin pathway. Our previous studies in mice intestine showed that Dab1 transmits the reelin signal to cytosolic signalling pathways. Here, we determine the Dab1 isoform expressed in rodent small and large intestine, its subcellular location and co-localization with clathrin, caveolin-1 and N-Wasp. PCR and sequencing analysis reveal that rodent small and large intestine express a Dab1 isoform that misses three (Y198, Y200 and Y220) of the five tyrosine phosphorylation sites present in brain Dab1 isoform (canonical) and contains nuclear localization and export signals. Western blot assays show that both, crypts, which shelter progenitor cells, and enterocytes express the same Dab1 isoform, suggesting that epithelial cell differentiation does not regulate intestinal generation of alternatively spliced Dab1 variants. They also reveal that the canonical and the intestinal Dab1 isoforms differ in their total degree of phosphorylation. Immunostaining assays show that in enterocytes Dab1 localizes at the apical and lateral membranes, apical vesicles, close to adherens junctions and desmosomes, as well as in the nucleus; co-localizes with clathrin and with N-Wasp but not with caveolin-1, and in Caco-2 cells Dab1 localizes at cell-to-cell junctions by a Ca2+-dependent process. In conclusion, the results indicate that in rodent intestine a truncated Dab1 variant transmits the reelin signal and may play a role in clathrin-mediated apical endocytosis and in the control of cell-to-cell junction assembly. A function of intestinal Dab1 variant as a nucleocytoplasmic shuttling protein is also inferred from its sequence and nuclear location.Junta de Andalucía CTS 5884Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia AP2007-04201European Molecular Biology Organization ASTF45-201

Roberto Arlt : translation and the construction of genre

    Get PDF
[From the introduction]:Roberto Arlt is generally considered by critics the forerunner of the Latin American "boom". Arlt's innovative style reflects a fascination with the popular and a trenchant social realism fused with fantasy; his oeuvre is considered to have paved the way for later Latin American magic realism. Though distinguished names such as Jorge Luis Borges and Julio Cortazar praised his work, still, Arlt has long been considered by lesser figures a marginal voice, a tragicomic commentator on life, anautodidact and journalist, a writer who could not even spell. Only fairly recently has his place in the Argentine canon been granted; elsewhere, Arltian scholars and critics regard Arlt's work as an incisive portrait of its epoch, a much deserved milestone that secured the author a literary place that his contemporaries tried to deny him

    Get PDF

This paper starts off explaining the arguments put forward to defend the need to reduce the State’s budgetary activity and minimize fiscal deficit in accordance with the institutionalized consensus reached under the Maastricht Treaty and the Stability and Growth Pact. Secondly, it sheds light on the evolution of the main budgetary variables of the European Union economies and develops a typology of countries based on their degree of budgetary activity. Thirdly, it offers three approaches to the empirical evidence that is being used to explain that it is very difficult to establish any kind of causal relation between the evolution of fiscal variables or the degree of budgetary activity and the economic growth experienced by European countries during 1984 and 2003. Finally, it describes the conclusions drawn from the study
