    The generalized H\"older and Morrey-Campanato Dirichlet problems for elliptic systems in the upper-half space

    We prove well-posedness results for the Dirichlet problem in R+n\mathbb{R}^{n}_{+} for homogeneous, second order, constant complex coefficient elliptic systems with boundary data in generalized H\"older spaces Cω(Rn1,CM)\mathscr{C}^{\omega}(\mathbb{R}^{n-1},\mathbb{C}^M) and in generalized Morrey-Campanato spaces Eω,p(Rn1,CM)\mathscr{E}^{\omega,p}(\mathbb{R}^{n-1},\mathbb{C}^M) under certain assumptions on the growth function ω\omega. We also identify a class of growth functions ω\omega for which Cω(Rn1,CM)=Eω,p(Rn1,CM)\mathscr{C}^{\omega}(\mathbb{R}^{n-1},\mathbb{C}^M)=\mathscr{E}^{\omega,p}(\mathbb{R}^{n-1},\mathbb{C}^M) and for which the aforementioned well-posedness results are equivalent, in the sense that they have the same unique solution, satisfying natural regularity properties and estimates.Comment: Minor correction

    Reuse of textile wastewater after homogenization–decantation treatment coupled to PVDF ultrafiltration membranes

    The textile industry is one of the largest consumers of water in the world and its wastewater is a serious problem when it is discharged without the proper treatment. In this work, wastewater generated by textile industry was treated coupling a homogenization–decantation treatment with polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) ultrafiltration membranes. Initially, the wastewater was aerated in a homogenization–decantation tank where 17% colour and 10% chemical oxygen demand (COD) were removed. The aerated effluent was treated with an ultrafiltration membrane in order to reuse the permeate in new dyeing processes. Firstly, the ultrafiltration treatment was performed in a laboratory plant. The permeate analysis showed 20% colour removal and 60% COD decrease. On the basis of these results, a semi-industrial system was built. With this plant, the permeate characterization showed similar results. The system was found to be scalable and suitable for the treatment of this kind of effluents. Finally, new dyeings were performed with both permeates. Monochromatic dyeings were carried out with 100% permeate whereas 50% permeate was reused for dyeings with a mixture of three dyes.     Prolamin content and grain weight in RNAi silenced wheat lines under different conditions of temperature and nitrogen availability

    Temperature and nitrogen (N) availability are two important environmental factors that may produce important changes in grain composition during grain filling of bread wheat. In this study, four wheat lines with the down-regulation of gliadins by means of RNA interference (RNAi) have been characterized to determine the effect of thermal stress and N availability on grain weight and quality; with focus on gliadin and glutenin protein fractions. Grain weight was reduced with heat stress (HS) in all RNAi lines, whereas gliadin content was increased in the wild-types. With respect to gliadin content, RNAi lines responded to HS and N availability differently from their respective wild-types, except for ω-gliadin content, indicating a very clear stability of silencing under different environmental conditions. In a context of increased temperature and HS events, and in environments with different N availability, the RNAi lines with down-regulated gliadins seem well suited for the production of wheat grain with low gliadin content.The Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (Project AGL2016-80566-P) and the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) supported this research

    A logistic regression approach to estimating customer profit loss due to lapses in insurance

    This article focuses on business risk management in the insurance industry. A methodology for estimating the profit loss caused by each customer in the portfolio due to policy cancellation is proposed. Using data from a European insurance company, customer behaviour over time is analyzed in order to estimate the probability of policy cancelation and the resulting potential profit loss due to cancellation. Customers may have up to two different lines of business contracts: motor insurance and other diverse insurance (such as, home contents, life or accident insurance). Implications for understanding customer cancellation behaviour as the core of business risk management are outlined.Policy cancellation, customer loyalty, profit loss, customer behavior.

    In this article we use Bayesian methods to fit a Weibull mixture model with an unknown number of components to possibly right censored survival data. This is done using the recently developed, birth-death MCMC algorithm. We also show how to estimate the survivor function and the expected hazard rate from the MCMA output

    Design and Testing of a Structural Monitoring System in an Almería-Type Tensioned Structure Greenhouse

    Greenhouse cultivation has gained a special importance in recent years and become the basis of the economy in south-eastern Spain. The structures used are light and, due to weather events, often collapse completely or partially, which has generated interest in the study of these unique buildings. This study presents a load and displacement monitoring system that was designed, and full scale tested, in an Almería-type greenhouse with a tensioned wire structure. The loads and displacements measured under real load conditions were recorded for multiple time periods. The traction force on the roof cables decreased up to 22% for a temperature increase of 30 °C, and the compression force decreased up to 16.1% on the columns or pillars for a temperature and wind speed increase of 25.8 °C and 1.9 m/s respectively. The results show that the structure is susceptible to daily temperature changes and, to a lesser extent, wind throughout the test. The monitoring system, which uses load cells to measure loads and machine vision techniques to measure displacements, is appropriate for use in different types of greenhouses
