Allgemeine Innere Medizin: Wege zum Clinician Investigator
Forschungsinteressierte junge Ärzte und Ärztinnen haben oft nur vage Vorstellungen von den Karriereschritten, die zum Clinician Investigator, dem oder der akademisch und klinisch tätigen Allgemeininternisten bzw. -internistin, führen. Was mögliche Wege sind, wo es Unterstützung gibt und wie klinische und akademische Weiterbildung kombiniert werden – der Artikel geht diesen Fragen nach

Für den akademisch interessierten Nachwuchs gibt es nicht den einen Weg, die wissenschaftliche
Karriere zu starten. Im Folgenden sind einige grundlegende Aspekte beschrieben, um die akademische
Karriere im Bereich der Allgemeinen Inneren Medizin zu erleichtern
Mi barrio es el paraíso, el infierno son los otros. Interacción y fragmentación socio-espacial en Victoria, San Fernando, R.M.B.A. 2014
Se ha elegido la zona de Victoria, San Fernando, Provincia de Buenos Aires, como un ejemplo de fragmentación urbana y segregación social. En un recorrido muy corto, de Oeste a Este, encontramos todas las clases sociales sucesivamente, coincidiendo la distancia geográfica y la social, desde la marginación en el Oeste (Reconquista) hasta la clase alta en la costa del Luján en el Este. En algún lugar de este recorrido observamos, muros y paredones sin comercios ni edificios comunes, solo depósitos, cementerios y barrios cerrados. Aunque las causas son variadas y algunas tienen su origen en la política urbana de los años noventa, en este artículo damos cuenta del problema urbanístico y social y estudiamos las diversas formas que ha tomado y toma la estrategia tanto de pobladores como de gestiones de gobierno para resistirse al cambio, que estaría representado por la interacción entre clases sociales, base de la vida ciudadana, casi ausente o muy débil en este caso. Parte del problema es geográfico, las barreras urbanas (Tren Mitre, Avenida Libertador, Tren de la Costa, Tren a Capilla del Señor, Autopista Acceso Norte) proliferaron desde el siglo XIX en adelante. Sin embargo en una comparación con el corredor Norte, solo San Fernando ha privatizado su costa. San Fernando (y Victoria) está fragmentado en tres grandes zonas a causa de estas barreras geográficas. Los conflictos se darán sólo en las fronteras (muro entre partidos) y en los bordes sociales, pero siempre tratando de evitar los grandes cambios. El corte temporal del estudio corresponde al período 2004-2014. A través de este estudio se verifica la importancia del aislamiento espacial producido por las barreras urbanas, que en su fragmentación van consolidando la segregación, la segmentación social y la exclusión como resultado último.The area of Victoria, San Fernando, Buenos Aires Province has been selected as an example of urban fragmentation and social segregation. On a very short tour we found all the social classes successively, matching the geographical and social distance, from the marginalization in the West (Renconquista) to the upper class on the shore of the Lujan river in the East. Somewhere along this tour, we observed thick walls without shops or ordinary buildings but only with stores, cemeteries and gated communities. Even though the causes are varied and some of them have their origin from urban politics in the 90’s. In this article we explain the urban and social problem and study the various forms of the strategy of both citizens and government management has taken and still takes to resist change, which would be represented by interaction of social classes, basis of the citizen life, which is almost absent or very weak in this case. Part of the problem is geographical, the urban barriers (Mitre train, Libertador, Tren de la Costa, train to Capilla del Señor, Acceso Norte) proliferated from the nineteenth century onwards. However, in a comparison with the Northern corridor, only San Fernando has privatized its shore. San Fernando (and Victoria) is fragmented into three big areas because of these geographical barriers. Conflicts will occur only in the borderlines (a wall between towns) and in social borders, but always trying to avoid big changes. The James Webb Space Telescope Mission
Twenty-six years ago a small committee report, building on earlier studies,
expounded a compelling and poetic vision for the future of astronomy, calling
for an infrared-optimized space telescope with an aperture of at least .
With the support of their governments in the US, Europe, and Canada, 20,000
people realized that vision as the James Webb Space Telescope. A
generation of astronomers will celebrate their accomplishments for the life of
the mission, potentially as long as 20 years, and beyond. This report and the
scientific discoveries that follow are extended thank-you notes to the 20,000
team members. The telescope is working perfectly, with much better image
quality than expected. In this and accompanying papers, we give a brief
history, describe the observatory, outline its objectives and current observing
program, and discuss the inventions and people who made it possible. We cite

Long-Term Evaluation of Breeding Scheme Alternatives for Endangered Honeybee Subspecies
Modern breeding structures are emerging for European honeybee populations. However, while genetic evaluations of honeybees are becoming increasingly well understood, little is known about how selection decisions shape the populations’ genetic structures. We performed simulations evaluating 100 different selection schemes, defined by selection rates for dams and sires, in populations of 200, 500, or 1000 colonies per year and considering four different quantitative traits, reflecting different genetic parameters and numbers of influential loci. Focusing on sustainability, we evaluated genetic progress over 100 years and related it to inbreeding developments. While all populations allowed for sustainable breeding with generational inbreeding rates below 1% per generation, optimal selection rates differed and sustainable selection was harder to achieve in smaller populations and for stronger negative correlations of maternal and direct effects in the selection trait. In small populations, a third or a fourth of all candidate queens should be selected as dams, whereas this number declined to a sixth for larger population sizes. Furthermore, our simulations indicated that, particularly in small populations, as many sires as possible should be provided. We conclude that carefully applied breeding provides good prospects for currently endangered honeybee subspecies, since sustainable genetic progress improves their attractiveness to beekeepers.Peer Reviewe

Comparison of infinitesimal and finite locus models for long-term breeding simulations with direct and maternal effects at the example of honeybees.
Stochastic simulation studies of animal breeding have mostly relied on either the infinitesimal genetic model or finite polygenic models. In this study, we investigated the long-term effects of the chosen model on honeybee breeding schemes. We implemented the infinitesimal model, as well as finite locus models, with 200 and 400 gene loci and simulated populations of 300 and 1000 colonies per year over the course of 100 years. The selection was of a directly and maternally influenced trait with maternal heritability of [Formula: see text], direct heritability of [Formula: see text], and a negative correlation between the effects of rmd = - 0.18. Another set of simulations was run with parameters [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], and rmd = - 0.53. All models showed similar behavior for the first 20 years. Throughout the study, we observed a higher genetic gain in the direct than in the maternal effects and a smaller gain with a stronger negative covariance. In the long-term, however, only the infinitesimal model predicted sustainable linear genetic progress, while the finite locus models showed sublinear behavior and, after 100 years, only reached between 58% and 62% of the mean breeding values in the infinitesimal model. While the infinitesimal model suggested a reduction of genetic variance by 33% to 49% after 100 years, the finite locus models saw a more drastic loss of 76% to 92%. When designing sustainable breeding strategies, one should, therefore, not blindly trust the infinitesimal model as the predictions may be overly optimistic.
