    Tratamiento médico del sarcoma de Ewing

    El Sarcoma de Ewing representa del 10 al 15% de los tumores óseos malignos primarios y es el segundo en frecuencia en la edad pediátrica. Hasta la introducción de la quimioterapia adyuvante en los años 60, la supervivencia era inferior al 10%. En la actualidad se administra en todos los casos poliquimioterapia utilizando como fármacos esenciales: ciclofosfamida, ifosfamida, etoposido, vincristina, doxorrubicina y actinomicina D, con lo que la supervivencia se ha elevado hasta el 70% de los casos. En el Hospital «Ramón y Cajal», la supervivencia actuarial a 5 años, en 27 niños menores de 18 años de edad tratados con poliquimioterapia ha sido del 64%. Para los pacientes de pronóstico inicial muy desfavorable que presentan tasas de supervivencia muy inferiores, se están utilizando técnicas de megaterapia con quimioterapia a altas dosis, asociada o no a irradiación corporal total y rescate con células hematopoyéticas, con resultados iniciales alentadores.Ewing's sarcoma accounts for 10-15% of all primary malignant bone tumors, and is the second in frequency among children. Until the introduction of the adjuvant chemotherapy in the early sixties, the patients survival was lower than 10%. At present, all these patients receive polychemotherapy combining a group of essential drugs: cyclophosphamide, iphosphamide, vincristine, and actinomycine D. Patients survival has reached 70% of cases using niodern therapeutic protocols. In our hospital, the 5-year actuarial survival rate was 64% in 27 children less than 18-years-old. Patients with initially bad prognosis, having a lower survival rate, were treated with megatherapy using high-dose chemotherapy, associated or not to total body radiation and hematopoietic tem-cells rescue.     Linearly independent pure-state decomposition and quantum state discrimination

    We put the pure-state decomposition mathematical property of a mixed state to a physical test. We begin by characterizing all the possible decompositions of a rank-two mixed state by means of the complex overlap between two involved states. The physical test proposes a scheme of quantum state recognition of one of the two linearly independent states which arise from the decomposition. We find that the two states associated with the balanced pure-state decomposition have the smaller overlap modulus and therefore the smallest probability of being discriminated conclusively, while in the nonconclusive scheme they have the highest probability of having an error. In addition, we design an experimental scheme which allows to discriminate conclusively and optimally two nonorthogonal states prepared with different a priori probabilities. Thus, we propose a physical implementation for this linearly independent pure-state decomposition and state discrimination test by using twin photons generated in the process of spontaneous parametric down conversion. The information-state is encoded in one photon polarization state whereas the second single-photon is used for heralded detection.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, Submitted to Phys. Rev.

    Tracking Advanced Planetary Systems (TAPAS) with HARPS-N. V.: A Massive Jupiter orbiting the very low metallicity giant star BD+03 2562 and a possible planet around HD~103485

    We present two evolved stars from the TAPAS (Tracking Advanced PlAnetary Systems) with HARPS-N project devoted to RV precision measurements of identified candidates within the PennState - Torun Centre for Astronomy Planet Search. Evolved stars with planets are crucial to understand the dependency of the planet formation mechanism on the mass and metallicity of the parent star and to study star-planet interactions. The paper is based on precise radial velocity (RV) measurements, for HD 103485 we collected 57 epochs over 3317 days with the Hobby-Eberly Telescope and its High Resolution Spectrograph and 18 ultra-precise HARPS-N data over 919 days. For BD+03 2562 we collected 46 epochs of HET data over 3380 days and 19 epochs of HARPS-N data over 919 days. We present the analysis of the data and the search for correlations between the RV signal and stellar activity, stellar rotation and photometric variability. Based on the available data, we interpret the RV variations measured in both stars as Keplerian motion. Both stars have masses close to Solar (1.11 and 1.14), very low metallicities ([Fe/H]=-0.50 and -0.71), and, both have Jupiter planetary mass companions (m sin i=7 and 6.4 Mj), in close to terrestrial orbits (1.4 and 1.3~au), with moderate eccentricities (e=0.34 and 0.2). However, we cannot totally exclude that the signal in the case of HD~103485 is due to rotational modulation of active regions. Based on the current data, we conclude that BD+03 2562 has a bona fide planetary companion while for HD 103485 we cannot totally exclude that the best explanation for the RV signal modulations is not the existence of a planet but stellar activity. If, the interpretation remains that both stars have planetary companions they represent systems orbiting very evolved stars with very low metallicities, a challenge to the conditions required for the formation of massive giant gas planets.Comment: Acepted A&A 12 pages, 11 figure

    Systematic evaluation of software product line architectures

    The architecture of a software product line is one of its most important artifacts as it represents an abstraction of the products that can be generated. It is crucial to evaluate the quality attributes of a product line architecture in order to: increase the productivity of the product line process and the quality of the products; provide a means to understand the potential behavior of the products and, consequently, decrease their time to market; and, improve the handling of the product line variability. The evaluation of product line architecture can serve as a basis to analyze the managerial and economical values of a product line for software managers and architects. Most of the current research on the evaluation of product line architecture does not take into account metrics directly obtained from UML models and their variabilities; the metrics used instead are difficult to be applied in general and to be used for quantitative analysis. This paper presents a Systematic Evaluation Method for UML-based Software Product Line Architecture, the SystEM-PLA. SystEM-PLA differs from current research as it provides stakeholders with a means to: (i) estimate and analyze potential products; (ii) use predefined basic UML-based metrics to compose quality attribute metrics; (iii) perform feasibility and trade-off analysis of a product line architecture with respect to its quality attributes; and, (iv) make the evaluation of product line architecture more flexible. An example using the SEI’s Arcade Game Maker (AGM) product line is presented as a proof of concept, illustrating SystEM-PLA activities. Metrics for complexity and extensibility quality attributes are defined and used to perform a trade-off analysis

    Strain balanced quantum posts

    Quantum posts are assembled by epitaxial growth of closely spaced quantum dot layers, modulating the composition of a semiconductor alloy, typically InGaAs. In contrast with most self-assembled nanostructures, the height of quantum posts can be controlled with nanometer precision, up to a maximum value limited by the accumulated stress due to the lattice mismatch. Here we present a strain compensation technique based on the controlled incorporation of phosphorous, which substantially increases the maximum attainable quantum post height.
