    MELANOMA? OBSERVE MAIS PERTO

    Pigmented skin lesions are sometimes misdiagnosed due to clinical similarities between melanocytic and non-melanocytic lesions. We report the case of a patient with a pigmented lesion that clinically resembles melanoma. With dermoscopy, observed features, namely leaf-like areas, allowed us to make the diagnosis of pigmented basal cell carcinoma. This case represents a clinical setting in which clinical examination alone could lead to a misdiagnosis, but with the use of dermoscopy an accurate diagnosis was possible.Lesões cutâneas pigmentadas por vezes são mal diagnosticadas devido às semelhanças entre as lesões melanocíticas e não-melanocíticas. Relatamos o caso de um doente com uma lesão pigmentada, clinicamente sugestiva de melanoma. Quando analisada com dermatoscopia, é possível observar características, nomeadamente áreas “leaf-like”, que nos permitem fazer o diagnóstico de carcinoma basocelular pigmentado. Este caso representa uma situação clínica em que o exame clinico isoladamente pode levar a um diagnóstico incorreto, mas que com o apoio da dermatoscopia foi feito corretamente

    Els plans d’estudi d'Enginyeria Química tenen assignatures troncals exclusivament de laboratori. Tot i així, la visió tradicional de la docència al laboratori continua essent la d’unes pràctiques complementàries a les assignatures teòriques. Tanmateix, es pot dotar aquestes assignatures d'un discurs propi basat en l’experimentació com a mètode i aprofitar el fet que el laboratori, a diferència de l'aula, és un escenari idoni per a l’aprenentatge i desenvolupament de competències, actituds i aptituds més enllà de la repetició del procés de mesura i del coneixement dels fonaments fisicoquímics dels fenòmens i processos que s’estudien. Des de fa més de deu anys l’Experimentació en Enginyeria Química de l’EUETIB s’ha plantejat com un procés de millora continua vers aquest objectiu. La formulació d’un pla estratègic que en gestionava la transformació va ser premiada el 2007 i actualment incorpora de manera explícita una sèrie de jocs de rol al laboratori orientats a l’aprenentatge de competències en l’àmbit de l’aplicació del mètode científic, la resolució de problemes, la gestió de projectes, la gestió de la qualitat i la millora contínua, la gestió de la seguretat i el medi ambient, la coavaluació i l’avaluació per a l’aprenentatge i la comunicació i el llenguatge.Peer Reviewe

    Integrating Curriculum-Based Dynamic Assessment in Computerized Adaptive Testing: Development and Predictive Validity of the EDPL-BAI Battery on Reading Competence

    In recent decades there have been significant changes in the conceptualization of reading as well as in the perception of how this activity should be assessed. Interest in the analysis of reading processes has led to the emergence of new explanatory models based primarily on the contributions of cognitive psychology. In parallel, there have been notable advances in measurement procedures, especially in models based on Item Response Theory (IRT), as well as in the capacity and performance of specific software programs that allow data to be managed and analyzed. These changes have contributed significantly to the rise of testing procedures such as computerized adaptive tests (CATs), whose fundamental characteristic is that the sequence of items presented in the tests is adapted to the level of competence that the subject manifests. Likewise, the incorporation of elements of dynamic assessment (DA) as the prompts are gradually offered allows for obtaining information about the type and degree of support required to optimize the subject¿s performance. In this sense, the confluence of contributions from DA and CATs offers a new possibility for approaching the assessment of learning processes. In this article, we present a longitudinal research developed in two phases, through which a computerized dynamic adaptive assessment battery of reading processes (EDPL-BAI) was configured. The research frame involved 1,831 students (46% girls) from 13 public schools in three regions of Chile. The purpose of this study was to analyze the differential contribution on reading competence of dynamic scores obtained in a subsample composed of 324 (47% girls) students from third to sixth grade after the implementation of a set of adaptive dynamic tests of morpho-syntactic processes. The results achieved in the structural equation modeling indicate a good global fit.     Rey–Osterrieth Complex Figure – copy and immediate recall (3 minutes): Normative data for Spanish-speaking pediatric populations

    OBJECTIVE: To generate normative data for the Rey–Osterrieth Complex Figure (ROCF) in Spanish-speaking pediatric populations. METHOD: The sample consisted of 4,373 healthy children from nine countries in Latin America (Chile, Cuba, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, and Puerto Rico) and Spain. Each participant was administered the ROCF as part of a larger neuropsychological battery. The ROCF copy and immediate recall (3 minutes) scores were normed using multiple linear regressions and standard deviations of residual values. Age, age2, sex, and mean level of parental education (MLPE) were included as predictors in the analyses. RESULTS: The final multiple linear regression models showed main effect for age on copy and immediate recall scores, such that scores increased linearly as a function of age. Age2 affected ROCF copy score for all countries, except Puerto Rico; and ROCF immediate recall scores for all countries, except Chile, Guatemala, Honduras, Paraguay, and Puerto Rico. Models indicated that children whose parent(s) had a MLPE >12 years obtained higher scores compared to children whose parent(s) had a MLPE≤12 years for Chile, Puerto Rico, and Spain in the ROCF copy, and Paraguay and Spain for the ROCF immediate recall. Sex affected ROCF copy and immediate recall score for Chile and Puerto Rico with girls scoring higher than boys. CONCLUSIONS: This is the largest Spanish-speaking pediatric normative study in the world, and it will allow neuropsychologists from these countries to have a more accurate approach to interpret the ROCF Test in pediatric populations

    Population fluctuation of Culicoides insignis Lutz (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae) in Posadas, Misiones, Argentina

    En Argentina, la distribución de la enfermedad del Virus de la Lengua Azul se encuentra restringida al noreste del país. En la región Neotropical el principal vector sería Culicoides insignis Lutz. El objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar la fluctuación poblacional de C. insignis en la ciudad de Posadas y también la influencia de las variables climáticas como determinantes en la abundancia de esta especie. Los ejemplares fueron capturados mediante trampas de luz en el período comprendido entre enero y diciembre de 2013. La relación entre el número de C. insignis capturados y las variables ambientales fue analizada por regresión lineal multivariada. Se recolectaron 2.952 ejemplares de C. insignis representando el 93,4% del total de Culicoides capturados. Los análisis de regresión lineal multivariada muestran que la humedad relativa media mensual fue la variable que mejor explicó la dinámica de C. insignis en la zona de estudio. La transmisión de patógenos está probablemente influenciada por la abundancia del vector en el área. Los picos poblacionales observados indican los períodos donde debe haber mayor control para evitar la transmisión de la enfermedad. Este es el primer reporte sobre fluctuación poblacional de C. insignis en el noreste del país

    Chiral dithioether ligands have been tested in the model Pd-catalysed allylic alkylation reaction of (+/-)-3-acetoxy-1,3-diphenyl-1-propene with dimethyl malonate. giving high enantioselectivity (up to 81% e.e.) for the first time in this type of system. Pd(Il)-allylic intermediates, [Pd(eta (3)-1,3-Ph-2-C3H3)(dithioether)]PF6 were prepared and characterised both in solution by NMR spectroscopy and solid state. The X-ray structure for [Pd(eta (3)-1,3-Ph-2-C3H3)(L)]PF6 (L=(R,R)-7,8-O-isopropylidene-1,5-dithiacyclononane) was determined. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved
