Possible Indication of Narrow Baryonic Resonances Produced in the 1720-1790 MeV Mass Region
Signals of two narrow structures at M=1747 MeV and 1772 MeV were observed in
the invariant masses M_{pX} and M_{\pi^{+}X} of the pp->ppX and pp->p\pi^{+}X
reactions respectively. Many tests were made to see if these structures could
have been produced by experimental artefacts. Their small widths and the
stability of the extracted masses lead us to conclude that these structures are
genuine and may correspond to new exotic baryons. Several attempts to identify
them, including the possible "missing baryons" approach, are discussed.Comment: 17 pages including 8 figures and 3 tables. ReVte
\pi N and \eta p deexcitation channels of the N^* and \Delta baryonic resonances between 1470 and 1680 MeV
Two reactions, pp->ppX and pp->p\pi^+X, are used to study the 1.47<M<1.68 GeV
baryonic mass range. Three different final states are considered in the
invariant masses: N^* or \Delta^+, p\pi^0, and p\eta. The last two channels are
defined by software cuts applied to the missing mass of the first reaction.
Several narrow structures are extracted with widths \sigma(\Gamma) varying
between 3 and 9 MeV. Some structures are observed in one channel but not in
others. Such nonobservation may be due either to the spectrometer momenta
limits or to the physics (e.g. no such disintegration channel is allowed from
the narrow state considered).
We tentatively conclude that the broad Particle Data Group (PDG) baryonic
resonances N(1520)D13, N(1535)S11, Delta(1600)P33, and N(1675)D15 are
collective states built from several narrow and weakly excited resonances, each
having a (much) smaller width than the one reported by PDG.Comment: 29 pages, plus 50 (.png) figures Will be published in a slightly

Measurement of the electric dipole moments for transitions to rubidium Rydberg states via Autler-Townes splitting
We present the direct measurements of electric-dipole moments for
transitions with for Rubidium atoms. The
measurements were performed in an ultracold sample via observation of the
Autler-Townes splitting in a three-level ladder scheme, commonly used for
2-photon excitation of Rydberg states. To the best of our knowledge, this is
the first systematic measurement of the electric dipole moments for transitions
from low excited states of rubidium to Rydberg states. Due to its simplicity
and versatility, this method can be easily extended to other transitions and
other atomic species with little constraints. Good agreement of the
experimental results with theory proves the reliability of the measurement

Surface and volume effects in the photoabsorption of nuclei
Recent experimental results for meson photoproduction from nuclei obtained
with TAPS at MAMI are analyzed in view of the suppression of the second nucleon
resonance region in total photoabsorption. The cross sections can be split into
a component from the low density surface region of nuclei and a component which
scales more like the nuclear volume. The energy dependence of the surface
component is similar to the deuteron cross section, it shows a clear signal for
the second resonance peak assigned to the excitation of the P11(1440),
D13(1520), and S11(1535). The volume component behaves differently, it is
lacking the second resonance peak and shows an enhancement at intermediate

Scalable data management in distributed information systems
[EN] In the era of cloud computing and huge information systems, distributed applications should manage dynamic workloads; i.e., the amount of client requests per time unit may vary frequently and servers should rapidly adapt their computing efforts to those workloads. Cloud systems provide a solid basis for this kind of applications but most of the traditional relational database systems are unprepared to scale up with this kind of distributed systems. Pion production in deeply virtual Compton scattering
Using a soft pion theorem based on chiral symmetry and a
resonance model we propose an estimate for the production cross section of low
energy pions in the deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) process. In
particular, we express the processes in terms of
generalized parton distributions. We provide estimates of the contamination of
the DVCS observables due to this associated pion
production processes when the experimental data are not fully exclusive, for a
set of kinematical conditions representative of present or planned experiments
at JLab, HERMES and COMPASS.Comment: 50 pages, 22 figure
Proton polarizability effect in the Lamb shift of the hydrogen atom
The proton polarizability correction to the Lamb shift of electronic and
muonic hydrogen is calculated on the basis of isobar model and experimental
data on the structure functions of deep inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering.
The contributions of the Born terms, vector-meson exchanges and nucleon
resonances are taken into account in the construction of the photoabsorption
cross sections for transversely and longitudinally polarized virtual photons

Nuclear Photoabsorption at Photon Energies between 300 and 850 Mev
We construct the formula for the photonuclear total absorption cross section
using the projection method and the unitarity relation. Our treatment is very
effective when interference effects in the absorption processes on a nucleon
are strong. The disappearance of the peak around the position of the
resonance in the nuclear photoabsorption can be explained with the cooperative
effect of the interference in two-pion production processes,the Fermi motion,
the collision broadenings of and , and the pion distortion in the
nuclear medium. The change of the interference effect by the medium plays an

Photoproduction of pi0-mesons from nuclei
Photoproduction of neutral pions from nuclei (carbon, calcium, niobium, lead)
has been studied for incident photon energies from 200 MeV to 800 MeV with the
TAPS detector using the Glasgow photon tagging spectrometer at the Mainz MAMI
accelerator. Data were obtained for the inclusive photoproduction of neutral
pions and the partial channels of quasifree single pi0, double pi0, and
pi0pi+/- photoproduction. They have been analyzed in terms of the in-medium
behavior of nucleon resonances and the pion - nucleus interaction. They are
compared to earlier measurements from the deuteron and to the predictions of a
Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (BUU) transport model for photon induced pion

Trajectory Retrieval and Component Investigations of Southern Polar Stratosphere Based on High Resolution Spectroscopy of Totally Eclipsed Moon Surface
In this paper we present the high resolution spectral observations of the
fragment of lunar surface during the total lunar eclipse of December 10, 2011.
The observations were carried out with the fiber-fed echelle spectrograph at
1.2-m telescope in Kourovka Astronomical observatory (Ural mountains, central
Russia). The observed radiation is transferred by tangent trajectory through
the southern polar stratosphere before the reflection from the Moon and spectra
contain a number of absorption bands of atmospheric gases (O2, O3, O4, NO2,
H2O). High resolution analysis of three O2 bands and O4 absorption effects is
used to trace the effective trajectory of solar emission through the
stratosphere and to detect the contribution of scattered light. Bands of other
gases allow us to measure their abundances along the trajectory.Comment: 13 pages, 9 figure
