Making visible an invisible trade : exploring the everyday experiences of doing social work and being a social worker
This article demonstrates that making art in conjunction with story-telling is a method which can elucidate the everyday working practices of social work practitioners. To date, the relationship between art and social workers has rarely been noted, in part because visual studies have not attended to lived experiences of social workers. In this paper, we draw on an empirical study undertaken in England which invited social workers to use art to tell their stories of being a social worker and doing social work. Their artefacts produced powerful visual and aural accounts of practice. They were displayed at the Peopleâs History Museum, in the first social work exhibition of this kind, making visible to members of the public the hidden, lesser known and understood aspects of practice. In this paper, we demonstrate how particular social work structures can rupture relationships between social workers and the families they work with. In doing so, we build on the sociology of art, work and interaction by showing how visual narratives can challenge, and sometimes alter, previously held assumptions and beliefs

HEE North West (HEE NW) is currently piloting for 12 months a partnership of Trusts within Greater Manchester to deliver non-credit bearing Multi-Professional Support of Learning and Assessment in Practice (MSLAP) programme in NHS, private, voluntary and independent settings under an agreement with the University of Bolton (UoB). Health Education England North West (HEE NW) have commissioned an evaluation of the model by the University of Salford School of Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work & Social Sciences (NMSWSS) to compare this model to different national HEE mentorship training delivery models and policies
Prolonged whelping in bitches
Physiological whelping occurs at the end of gestation and involves the expulsion of fetus/pups through the genital tract aided by natural forces. These reports draw the attention of practitioners and breeders to the possibility of some unusual events during whelping and precautions to be taken in its management. They also highlight some unethical practices by breeders that may put in jeopardy processes and outcome of whelping. Two bitches separately presented to a Veterinary Hospital with history of dystocia were investigated. The dystocia was characterized by prolonged inter-whelping interval (more than 72 hours) in the first and unproductive labour in the second. Administration of appropriate doses of oxytocin led to the relief of the dystocia in both cases. The misuse of oxytocin by breeders was probably responsible for alteration in whelping events. The above reports suggest that dystocia should be thoroughly evaluated, an appropriate obstetric management regimen be established, strict enforcement of regulations guiding drug handling by non-professionals should be recommended.Keywords: Bitch, Dystocia, Oxytocin, Unethical practices, Unusual whelpin
Using dartmoor ponies in conservation grazing to reduce molinia caerulea dominance and encourage germination of Calluna vulgaris in heathland vegetation on Dartmoor, UK
The increasing dominance of purple moor-grass Molinia caerulea in heathland ecosystems in the UK is of growing concern due to its detrimental impact on plant and animal diversity on sites of nature conservation interest. The use of free-ranging ponies to reduce Molinia dominance was investigated from 2017 to 2019 within a 425 ha site on Dartmoor, UK. Salt blocks were used to attract the ponies to a Molinia-dominated area of heath within the site, away from their previously-preferred grazing areas. The impact of pony grazing was assessed by measurements of vegetation structure and plant species composition. The increased presence of ponies in the vicinity of the salt blocks increased the percentage occurrence of bare ground, reduced sward surface height, reduced percentage occurrence of Molina and increased the germination of heather Calluna vulgaris seedlings. The conclusions of this research are that salt blocks can be used to attract ponies to graze targeted areas of Molinia-dominated heathland. Through their grazing and trampling, ponies can reduce the dominance of Molinia, leading to an increase in the germination and establishment of heather seedlings
An AreaâSpecific, International CommunityâLed Approach to Understanding and Addressing Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Issues within Supramolecular Chemistry
Diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI/EDI) are pressing issues in chemistry and the natural sciences. In this Essay we share how an areaâspecific approach is âcalling inâ the community so that it can act to address EDI issues, and support those who are marginalised. Women In Supramolecular Chemistry (WISC) is an international network that aims to support equality, diversity, and inclusion within supramolecular chemistry. WISC has taken a fieldâspecific approach using qualitative research methods with scientists to identify the support that is needed and the problems the supramolecular community needs to address. Herein, we present survey data from the community which highlight the barriers that are faced by those who take career breaks for any reason, a common example is maternity leave, and the importance of mentoring to aid progression postâPhD. In conclusion, we set out an interdisciplinary and creative approach to addressing EDI issues within supramolecular chemistry
Glueball masses in the large N limit
The lowest-lying glueball masses are computed in SU() gauge theory on a
spacetime lattice for constant value of the lattice spacing and for
ranging from 3 to 8. The lattice spacing is fixed using the deconfinement
temperature at temporal extension of the lattice . The calculation is
conducted employing in each channel a variational ansatz performed on a large
basis of operators that includes also torelon and (for the lightest states)
scattering trial functions. This basis is constructed using an automatic
algorithm that allows us to build operators of any size and shape in any
irreducible representation of the cubic group. A good signal is extracted for
the ground state and the first excitation in several symmetry channels. It is
shown that all the observed states are well described by their large
values, with modest corrections. In addition spurious states
are identified that couple to torelon and scattering operators. As a byproduct
of our calculation, the critical couplings for the deconfinement phase
transition for N=5 and N=7 and temporal extension of the lattice are

Stem cells are the most sensitive screening tool to identify toxicity of GATA4-targeted novel small-molecule compounds
Safety assessment of drug candidates in numerous in vitro and experimental animal models is expensive, time consuming and animal intensive. More thorough toxicity profiling already in the early drug discovery projects using human cell models, which more closely resemble the physiological cell types, would help to decrease drug development costs. In this study we aimed to compare different cardiac and stem cell models for in vitro toxicity testing and to elucidate structure-toxicity relationships of novel compounds targeting the cardiac transcription factor GATA4. By screening the effects of eight compounds at concentrations ranging from 10 nM up to 30 ”M on the viability of eight different cell types, we identified significant cell type- and structure-dependent toxicity profiles. We further characterized two compounds in more detail using high-content analysis. The results highlight the importance of cell type selection for toxicity screening and indicate that stem cells represent the most sensitive screening model, which can detect toxicity that may otherwise remain unnoticed. Furthermore, our structure-toxicity analysis reveals a characteristic dihedral angle in the GATA4-targeted compounds that causes stem cell toxicity and thus helps to direct further drug development efforts towards non-toxic derivatives
Twisted Bethe equations from a twisted S-matrix
All-loop asymptotic Bethe equations for a 3-parameter deformation of
AdS5/CFT4 have been proposed by Beisert and Roiban. We propose a Drinfeld twist
of the AdS5/CFT4 S-matrix, together with c-number diagonal twists of the
boundary conditions, from which we derive these Bethe equations. Although the
undeformed S-matrix factorizes into a product of two su(2|2) factors, the
deformed S-matrix cannot be so factored. Diagonalization of the corresponding
transfer matrix requires a generalization of the conventional algebraic Bethe
ansatz approach, which we first illustrate for the simpler case of the twisted
su(2) principal chiral model. We also demonstrate that the same twisted Bethe
equations can alternatively be derived using instead untwisted S-matrices and
