An Analysis of Data Quality Defects in Podcasting Systems

Podcasting has emerged as an asynchronous delay-tolerant method for the distribution of multimedia files through a network. Although podcasting has become a popular Internet application, users encounter frequent information quality problems in podcasting systems. To better understand the severity of these quality problems, we have applied the Total Data Quality Management methodology to podcasting. Through the application of this methodology we have quantified the data quality problems inherent within podcasting metadata, and performed an analysis that maps specific metadata defects to failures in popular commercial podcasting platforms. Furthermore, we extracted the Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds from the iTunes catalog for the purpose of performing the most comprehensive measurement of podcasting metadata to date. From these findings we attempted to improve the quality of podcasting data through the creation of a metadata validation tool - PodCop. PodCop extends existing RSS validation tools and encapsulates validation rules specific to the context of podcasting. We believe PodCop is the first attempt at improving the overall health of the podcasting ecosyste

Fluctuation of market nowadays gives impacts to the people. The demand of house projects decrease due to the increase of related cost of the projects. Due to that, the researcher conducted this study to identify the factors that influencing the effectiveness of promotional activities at BINARAYA Pkink Sdn. Bhd. The factors and also the independent variables are advertising, online marketing and personal selling. Dependent variable is the effectiveness of promotional activities. The objective of this study is to examine the impact of each independent variable to its dependent variable as well as to conclude the relationships exist. The researcher used exploratory research design as it attempts to determine the effectiveness of promotional activities. At the same time it also determines the degree to which variables are associated. In collecting the data, the researcher obtains from primary from questionnaires, interviews and observation while secondary data collected from journals, articles, books, reports and internet. Simple random sampling was used for this study as it allows obtaining a sample of convenient elements as well as accessible, easy to measure and cooperative. Due to that, 100 respondents selected randomly to answer questionnaires which the researcher focused on BINARAYA's staffs and clients. Then the researcher analyzed the data from questionnaires using Statistical Package for Social Science 14.0 Students Version. Data was interpreted and test using frequency distribution analysis. Correlation analysis, correlation coefficient and simple regression used to test hypotheses. The results show that all three independent variables have positive relationships with dependent variables. In terms of regression analysis, the most effective promotional activity is advertising and the most ineffective promotional activity is online marketing. Recommendations outline by the researcher are active online marketing program widely. The BINARAYA can stress on the website and update the latest news about current projects. Then, the BINARAYA can pursue with creative advertising seems it's attract more than other promotional activitie

Questions of taste. Diderot and the stratification of aesthetic judgement

«The further one goes to find a definition of “good taste”, the wider off the mark one gets; taste is nothing but the ability to judge what pleases or does not please the majority». This incisive definition by Rousseau, which could find many supporters, is as true as any persuasive definition, yet does not explain much. It is nonetheless incontestable that in eighteenth century France the term “taste” assumed extremely diverse and at times divergent meanings and connotations. These meanings and connotations met or clashed in Diderot’s method of thinking

Developing Co-current and Counter-current Spray Drying Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Simulation Studies to Predict the Quality of Microencapsulated Fish Oil with Egg White Hydrolysates Powders

Eggs are an excellent source of high quality protein containing all essential amino acids (EAA) including leucine. Food-grade protein hydrolysates can enhance the growth of lactic acid bacteria (LAB). Thermal degradation of bioactives normally occurs during microencapsulation by spray drying. Spray drying modeling using computational tools is essential to engineer new food powders and to minimize and thermal degradation of bioactives. The first chapter of this work discusses the optimization of an enzymatic process in terms of reaction temperature, pH, enzyme:substrate ratio, and reaction time using a response surface methodology (RSM) to produce food-grade protein hydrolysates from egg whites (EWH). Resulting EWH produced with proteases from Aspergillus oryzae contained all EAA and showed high antioxidant activity. The EWH were evaluated as a nitrogen source in MRS media for the growth of L. plantarum, L. acidophilus, and L. reuteri. MRS containing EWH had similar performance to that of conventional MRS and produced higher cell yields and better quality of biomass than MRS containing dried egg white proteins. Three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations were performed to study the effect of co-current and counter-current spray drying configurations on the quality of microencapsulated fish oil with EWH powders in the last section of this work. Also, the separation of powder particles from drying air at the spray dryer’s cyclone separator was evaluated using CFD. CFD models predicted the drying air flow pattern, particle histories including temperature, residence times (RT), moisture content and particle size of the microencapsulated powders. Predicted moisture content of powders was lower than measured values; however, the predicted mean particle sizes were similar to the measured values. Lower lipid oxidation and microstructure degradation was observed in emulsions dried at 130°C inlet air temperature at feeding rates of 1.0 Kg/h and under counter-current spray drying conditions. The 3D-CFD model predicted lower RT (s) for emulsions dried in counter-current compared to co-current spray drying configurations. The study demonstrated that EWH can be enzymatically produced and can be used as an effective nitrogen source in MRS media. Also, 3D-CFD spray drying modeling can be effectively used to study the moisture evaporation and to predict the final quality of spray dried powders
