Shapes of the Proton
A model proton wave function, constructed using Poincare invariance, and
constrained by recent electromagnetic form factor data, is used to study the
shape of the proton. Spin-dependent quark densities are defined as matrix
elements of density operators in proton states of definite spin-polarization,
and shown to have an infinite variety of non-spherical shapes. For high
momentum quarks with spin parallel to that of the proton, the shape resembles
that of a peanut, but for quarks with anti-parallel spin the shape is that of a
bagel.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures, to be submitted to Phys. Rev. C This corrects a

Light Front Theory Of Nuclear Matter
A relativistic light front formulation of nuclear dynamics is applied to
infinite nuclear matter. A hadronic meson-baryon Lagrangian, consistent with
chiral symmetry, leads to a nuclear eigenvalue problem which is solved,
including nucleon-nucleon (NN) correlations, in the one-boson-exchange
approximation for the NN potential. The nuclear matter saturation properties
are reasonably well reproduced, with a compression modulus of 180 MeV. We find
that there are about 0.05 excess pions per nucleon.Comment: 6 pages, Revtex, one figure; version resubmitted to Phys. Lett.
Produce documents and media information
Lightning data and information were collected from the United States, Germany, France, Brazil, China, and Australia for the dual purposes of compiling a global lightning data base and producing publications on the Marshall Space Flight Center's lightning program. Research covers the history of lightning, the characteristics of a storm, types of lightningdischarges, observations from airplanes and spacecraft, the future fole of planes and spacecraft in lightning studies, lightning detection networks, and the relationships between lightning and rainfall. Descriptions of the Optical Transient Dectector, the Lightning Imaging Sensor, and the Lightning Mapper Sensor are included
Nucleon electroweak form factors in a meson-cloud model
The meson-cloud model of the nucleon consisting of a system of three valence
quarks surrounded by a meson cloud is applied to study the electroweak
structure of the proton and neutron. The electroweak nucleon form factors are
calculated within a light-front approach, by obtaining an overall good
description of the experimental data. Charge densities as a function of the
transverse distance with respect to the direction of the three-momentum
transfer are also discussed.Comment: Prepared for Proceedings of NSTAR2007, Workshop on the physics of

Expansion Aspect of Color Transparency on the Lattice
The opportunity to observe color transparency (CT) is determined by how
rapidly a small-sized hadronic wave packet expands. Here we use SU(2) lattice
gauge theory with Wilson fermions in the quenched approximation to investigate
the expansion. The wave packet is modeled by a point hadronic source, often
used as an interpolating field in lattice calculations. The procedure is to
determine the Euclidean time (t), pion channel, Bethe-Salpeter amplitude
, and then evaluate . This quantity represents the soft interaction of a small-sized
wave packet with a pion. The time dependence of is fit as a
superposition of three states, which is found sufficient to reproduce a reduced
size wave packet. Using this superposition allows us to make the analytic
continuation required to study the wave packet expansion in real time. We find
that the matrix elements of the soft interaction between the excited
and ground state decrease rapidly with the energy of the excited state.Comment: 19 pages, latex, 4 figure
Semantic metrics
In the context of the Semantic Web, many ontology-related operations, e.g. ontology ranking, segmentation, alignment, articulation, reuse, evaluation, can be boiled down to one fundamental operation: computing the similarity and?or dissimilarity among ontological entities, and in some cases among ontologies themselves. In this paper, we review standard metrics for computing distance measures and we propose a series of semantic metrics. We give a formal account of semantic metrics drawn from a variety of research disciplines, and enrich them with semantics based on standard Description Logic constructs. We argue that concept-based metrics can be aggregated to produce numeric distances at ontology-level and we speculate on the usability of our ideas through potential areas
Gauge invariant reduction to the light-front
The problem of constructing gauge invariant currents in terms of light-cone
bound-state wave functions is solved by utilising the gauging of equations
method. In particular, it is shown how to construct perturbative expansions of
the electromagnetic current in the light-cone formalism, such that current
conservation is satisfied at each order of the perturbation theory.Comment: 12 pages, revtex
Off-shell Behavior of the Mixing Amplitude
We extend a recent calculation of the momentum dependence of the
mixing amplitude to the pseudoscalar sector. The
mixing amplitude is calculated in a hadronic model where the mixing is driven
by the neutron-proton mass difference. Closed-form analytic expressions are
presented in terms of a few nucleon-meson parameters. The observed momentum
dependence of the mixing amplitude is strong enough as to question earlier
calculations of charge-symmetry-breaking observables based on the on-shell
assumption. The momentum dependence of the amplitude is,
however, practically identical to the one recently predicted for
mixing. Hence, in this model, the ratio of pseudoscalar to vector mixing
amplitudes is, to a good approximation, a constant solely determined from
nucleon-meson coupling constants. Furthermore, by selecting these parameters in
accordance with charge-symmetry-conserving data and SU(3)-flavor symmetry, we
reproduce the momentum dependence of the mixing amplitude
predicted from chiral perturbation theory. Alternatively, one can use
chiral-perturbation-theory results to set stringent limits on the value of the
coupling constant.Comment: 13 pages, Latex with Revtex, 3 postscript figures (not included)
