How Good are Present Analytical QCD-Predictions on Fluctuations in Angular Intervals ?
Results on two-particle angular correlations in jet cones and on multiplicity
fluctuations in one- and two- dimensional angular intervals, delivered by three
experiments (DELPHI, L3 and ZEUS, at from few to 183 GeV) are
compared to present existing analytical QCD calculations, using the LPHD
hypothesis. Two different types of functions have been tested. While the
differentially normalized correlation functions show substantial deviations
from the predictions, a globally normalized correlation function agrees
surprisingly well. The role of the QCD parameters , and
is discussed. The necessity to include full energy-momentum conservation

Study of gluon fragmentation and colour octet neutralization in DELPHI
Using the full statistics of the DELPHI experiment at 3-jet
events are selected and gluon respectively quark jet enriched subsamples are
defined. The leading systems of the two kinds of jets are determined using
rapidity gaps. The sum of charges of the leading systems is studied. It is
found that for gluon-jets there is a significant excess of leading systems with
total charge zero when compared to Monte Carlo simulations with JETSET. The
corresponding leading systems of quark-jets do not exhibit such an excess. The

Conceptual and socio-cognitive support for collaborative learning in videoconferencing environments
Studies have shown that videoconferences are an effective medium for facilitating communication between parties who are separated by distance. Furthermore, studies reveal that videoconferences are effective when used for distance learning, particularly when learners are engaged in complex collaborative learning tasks. However, as in face-to-face communication, learners benefit most when they receive additional support for such learning tasks. This article provides an overview of three empirical studies to illustrate more general insights regarding some of the more and less effective ways of supporting collaborative learning with videoconferencing. The focus is on conceptual support, such as structural visualization and socio-cognitive support, such as scripts. Based on the results of the three studies, conclusions can be drawn about the conceptual and socio-cognitive support measures that promote learning. Conclusions can also be reached about the need for employing both conceptual and socio-cognitive support to provide learners with the most benefit
Investigation of Bose-Einstein Correlations in 3 jet events with the DELPHI detector
A preliminary investigation of Bose-Einstein correlations in 3 jet events has
been made by analysing the collected data at the peak from '94 and '95
and the calibration runs during the LEP2 period from '97 to 2000. Three methods
were used to extract two-particle correlation functions. No significant

Two-center resonant photo ionization
Photoionization of an atom , in the presence of a neighboring atom ,
can proceed via resonant excitation of with subsequent energy transfer to
through two-center electron-electron correlation. We demonstrate that this
two-center mechanism can strongly outperform direct photoionization at
nanometer internuclear distances and possesses characteristic features in its
time development and the spectrum of emitted electrons.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Optical transparency of graphene as determined by the fine-structure constant
The observed 97.7% optical transparency of graphene has been linked to the
value 1/137 of the fine structure constant, by using results for noninteracting
Dirac fermions. The agreement in three significant figures requires an
explanation for the apparent unimportance of the Coulomb interaction. Using
arguments based on Ward identities, the leading corrections to the optical
conductivity due to the Coulomb interactions are correctly computed (resolving
a subtle theoretical issue) and shown to amount to only 1-2%, corresponding to

Casimir effect in a weak gravitational field and the spacetime index of refraction
In a recent paper [arXiv:0904.2904] using a conjecture it is shown how one
can calculate the effect of a weak stationary gravitational field on vacuum
energy in the context of Casimir effect in an external gravitational field
treated in 1+3 formulation of spacetime decomposition.. In this article,
employing quntum field theory in curved spacetime, we explicitly calculate the
effect of a weak static gravitational field on virtual massless scalar
particles in a Casimir apparatus. It is shown that, as expected from the
proposed conjecture, both the frequency and renormalized energy of the virtual
scalar field are affected by the gravitational field through its index of
refraction. This could be taken as a strong evidence in favour of the proposed
conjecture. Generalizations to weak {\it stationary} spacetimes and virtual

Solution to Faddeev equations with two-body experimental amplitudes as input and application to J^P=1/2^+, S=0 baryon resonances
We solve the Faddeev equations for the two meson-one baryon system
and coupled channels using the experimental two-body -matrices for the interaction as input and unitary chiral dynamics to describe the interaction
between the rest of coupled channels. In addition to the obtained
before with the channel, we obtain, for and total
isospin of the three-body system , a resonance peak whose mass is around
2080 MeV and width of 54 MeV, while for we find a peak around 2126 MeV
and 42 MeV of width. These two resonances can be identified with the and the , respectively. We obtain another peak in the
isospin 1/2 configuration, around 1920 MeV which can be interpreted as a
resonance in the and systems.Comment: published versio
Faddeev fixed-center approximation to the system and the signature of a state
We perform a calculation for the three body scattering
amplitude by using the fixed center approximation to the Faddeev equations,
taking the interaction between and , and , and
and from the chiral unitary approach. The resonant structures show up in
the modulus squared of the three body scattering amplitude and suggest that a
hadron state can be formed. Our results are in agreement with
others obtained in previous theoretical works, which claim a new
resonance around 1920 MeV with spin-parity . The existence of these
previous works allows us to test the accuracy of the fixed center approximation
in the present problem and sets the grounds for possible application in similar
problems, as an explorative tool to determine bound or quasibound three hadron

We investigate theoretically baryon systems made of three hadrons which
contain one nucleon and one D meson, and in addition another meson, or . The systems are studied using the Fixed Center Approximation
to the Faddeev equations. The study is made assuming scattering of a or a
on a cluster, which is known to generate the ,
or the scattering of a nucleon on the cluster, which has been shown
to generate a hidden charm resonance named X(3700). We also investigate the
configuration of scattering of on the cluster, which is known to
generate the . In all cases we find bound states, with the
