Adsorption Behaviour of Diisopropyl Flourophosphate on Whetlerite Carbon
Breakthrough behaviour of diisopropyl florophosphate (DFP) vapour on whetlerite carbon has been studied by using modified wheeler equation. The kinetic saturation capacity and pseudo first order rate constant with respect to the effect of various parameters such as bed weight, flow rate, concentration and temperature were correlated. The results of this study indicate that breakthrough time is increased with increase of the bed weight of carbon. Rate constant value increases as flow rate increases, while kinetic saturation capacity value is invariable.Defence Science Journal, 2013, 63(5), pp.473-477, DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.14429/dsj.63.251
Structural and Electronic Instabilities in Polyacenes: Density Matrix Renormalization Group Study of a Long--Range Interacting Model
We have carried out Density Matrix Renormalization Group (DMRG) calculations
on the ground state of long polyacene oligomers within a Pariser-Parr-Pople
(PPP) Hamiltonian. The PPP model includes long-range electron correlations
which are required for physically realistic modeling of conjugated polymers. We
have obtained the ground state energy as a function of the dimerization
and various correlation functions and structure factors for
. From energetics, we find that while the nature of the Peierls'
instabilityin polyacene is conditional and strong electron correlations enhance
the dimerization. The {\it cis} form of the distortion is favoured over the
{\it trans} form. However, from the analysis of correlation functions and
associated structure factors, we find that polyacene is not susceptible to the
formation of a bond order wave (BOW), spin density wave (SDW) or a charge
density wave (CDW) in the ground state.Comment: 31 pages, latex, 13 figure
Magnetic Field Generation in Stars
Enormous progress has been made on observing stellar magnetism in stars from
the main sequence through to compact objects. Recent data have thrown into
sharper relief the vexed question of the origin of stellar magnetic fields,
which remains one of the main unanswered questions in astrophysics. In this
chapter we review recent work in this area of research. In particular, we look
at the fossil field hypothesis which links magnetism in compact stars to
magnetism in main sequence and pre-main sequence stars and we consider why its
feasibility has now been questioned particularly in the context of highly
magnetic white dwarfs. We also review the fossil versus dynamo debate in the
context of neutron stars and the roles played by key physical processes such as
buoyancy, helicity, and superfluid turbulence,in the generation and stability
of neutron star fields.
Independent information on the internal magnetic field of neutron stars will
come from future gravitational wave detections. Thus we maybe at the dawn of a
new era of exciting discoveries in compact star magnetism driven by the opening
of a new, non-electromagnetic observational window.
We also review recent advances in the theory and computation of
magnetohydrodynamic turbulence as it applies to stellar magnetism and dynamo
theory. These advances offer insight into the action of stellar dynamos as well
as processes whichcontrol the diffusive magnetic flux transport in stars.Comment: 41 pages, 7 figures. Invited review chapter on on magnetic field

Calculated phase diagrams, iron tolerance limits, and corrosion of Mg-Al alloys
The factors determining corrosion are reviewed in this paper, with an emphasis on iron tolerance limit and the production of high-purity castings. To understand the iron impurity tolerance limit, magnesium phase diagrams were calculated using the Pandat software package. Calculated phase diagrams can explain the iron tolerance limit and the production of high-purity castings by means of control of melt conditions; this is significant for the production of quality castings from recycled magnesium. Based on the new insight, the influence of the microstructure on corrosion of magnesium alloys is reviewed
Application of a risk-management framework for integration of stromal tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes in clinical trials
Stromal tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (sTILs) are a potential predictive biomarker for immunotherapy response in metastatic triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). To incorporate sTILs into clinical trials and diagnostics, reliable assessment is essential. In this review, we propose a new concept, namely the implementation of a risk-management framework that enables the use of sTILs as a stratification factor in clinical trials. We present the design of a biomarker risk-mitigation workflow that can be applied to any biomarker incorporation in clinical trials. We demonstrate the implementation of this concept using sTILs as an integral biomarker in a single-center phase II immunotherapy trial for metastatic TNBC (TONIC trial, NCT02499367), using this workflow to mitigate risks of suboptimal inclusion of sTILs in this specific trial. In this review, we demonstrate that a web-based scoring platform can mitigate potential risk factors when including sTILs in clinical trials, and we argue that this framework can be applied for any future biomarker-driven clinical trial setting
Determination of in vitro antidiabetic effects of Zingiber officinale Roscoe
Aqueous extracts of Zingiber officinale rhizomes were studied to evaluate their antidiabetic effects on protein glycation and on the diffusion of glucose in vitro in the present study. Zingiber officinale rhizome aqueous extract were examined at concentrations of 5, 10, 20 and 40 g/L. The antidiabetic effects were found to be dose-dependent. Antidiabetic potential of Zingiber officinale was mainly through inhibition of the glucose diffusion and to a limited extent by reducing the glycation. However, further studies are needed to determine in vitro effects of therapeutic potential by restraining postprandial glucose absorptions and plasma protein glycations in diabetic subjects.
Search for Gravitational Waves Associated with Gamma-Ray Bursts Detected by Fermi and Swift during the LIGO-Virgo Run O3b
We search for gravitational-wave signals associated with gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) detected by the Fermi and Swift satellites during the second half of the third observing run of Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo (2019 November 1 15:00 UTC-2020 March 27 17:00 UTC). We conduct two independent searches: A generic gravitational-wave transients search to analyze 86 GRBs and an analysis to target binary mergers with at least one neutron star as short GRB progenitors for 17 events. We find no significant evidence for gravitational-wave signals associated with any of these GRBs. A weighted binomial test of the combined results finds no evidence for subthreshold gravitational-wave signals associated with this GRB ensemble either. We use several source types and signal morphologies during the searches, resulting in lower bounds on the estimated distance to each GRB. Finally, we constrain the population of low-luminosity short GRBs using results from the first to the third observing runs of Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo. The resulting population is in accordance with the local binary neutron star merger rate. © 2022. The Author(s). Published by the American Astronomical Society
