    Majorana Dark Matter

    In this letter in the framework of a simple see-saw scenario with two (or three) quasi degenerate Majorana neutrinos we propose that one of these neutrinos can be very weakly coupled, yet there is a mechanism of the generation of the abundance of such "dark" neutrino in the early universe. The mechanism of production is due to oscillations between "dark" Majorana neutrino and one of the Majorana's which has relatively large Yukawa couplings ("bright" Majorana neutrino). The transition of "bright" Majorana into a "dark" one is nonadiabatic. We point out on the similarity with the Landau-Zener transition regime.     On existence of double coset varieties

    Let GG be a complex affine algebraic group and H,FGH, F \subset G be closed subgroups. The homogeneous space G/HG / H can be equipped with structure of a smooth quasiprojective variety. The situation is different for double coset varieties \dcosets{F}{G}{H}. In this paper we give examples showing that the variety \dcosets{F}{G}{H} does not necessarily exist. We also address the question of existence of \dcosets{F}{G}{H} in the category of constructible spaces and show that under sufficiently general assumptions \dcosets{F}{G}{H} does exist as a constructible space.Comment: 7 pages; this version incorporates additions suggested by a referee of Colloquium Mathematicu

    Half Metallicity in Pr0.75_{0.75}Sr0.25_{0.25}MnO3_3: A first Principle study

    In this communication we present a first principle study of Pr1x_{1-x}Srx_{x}MnO3_3 with x=0.25x = 0.25. While the parent compounds of this system are antiferromagnetic insulators with different structural and magnetic ground states, the x=0.25x = 0.25 is in the colossal magnetoresistance regime of the Pr1x_{1-x}Srx_{x}MnO3_3 phase diagram [C. Martin, A. Maignan, M. Hervieu, B. Raveau, Phys. Rev. B 60 (1999) 12191]. Our band structure calculations for the end-point compounds matches well with the existing theoretical and experimental results [C. Martin, A. Maignan, M. Hervieu, B. Raveau, Phys. Rev. B 60 (1999) 12191; Rune Sondena, P. Ravindran, Svein Stolen, Tor Grande, Michael Hanfland, Phys. Rev. B 74 (2006) 144102]. Interestingly, our calculations show that the Pr0.75_{0.75}Sr0.25_{0.25}MnO3_3 has a half-metallic character with a huge band gap of 2.8 eV in the minority band. We believe this result would fuel further interest in some of these special compositions of colossal magnetoresistive manganites as they could be potential candidates for spintronic devices. We discuss the half-metallicity of the Pr0.75_{0.75}Sr0.25_{0.25}MnO3_3 in the light of changes in the orbital hybridization as a result of Sr doping in PrMnO3_3. Further, we highlight the importance of half-metallicity for a consolidated understanding of colossal magnetoresistance effect.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figure

    Orbital occupation, local spin and exchange interactions in V2O3

    We present the results of an LDA and LDA+U band structure study of the monoclinic and the corundum phases of V2O3 and argue that the most prominent (spin 1/2) models used to describe the semiconductor metal transition are not valid. Contrary to the generally accepted assumptions we find that the large on site Coulomb and exchange interactions result in a total local spin of 1 rather than 1/2 and especially an orbital occupation which removes the orbital degeneracies and the freedom for orbital ordering. The calculated exchange interaction parameters lead to a magnetic structure consistent with experiment again without the need of orbital ordering. While the low-temperature monoclinic distortion of the corundum crystal structure produces a very small effect on electronic structure of v2o3, the change of magnetic order leads to drastic differences in band widths and band gaps. The low temperature monoclinic phase clearly favors the experimentally observed magnetic structure, but calculations for corundum crystal structure gave two consistent sets of exchange interaction parameters with nearly degenerate total energies suggesting a kind of frustration in the paramagnetic phase. These results strongly suggest that the phase transitions in V2O3 which is so often quoted as the example of a S=1/2 Mott Hubbard system have a different origin. So back to the drawing board

    Towards lightweight convolutional neural networks for object detection

    We propose model with larger spatial size of feature maps and evaluate it on object detection task. With the goal to choose the best feature extraction network for our model we compare several popular lightweight networks. After that we conduct a set of experiments with channels reduction algorithms in order to accelerate execution. Our vehicle detection models are accurate, fast and therefore suit for embedded visual applications. With only 1.5 GFLOPs our best model gives 93.39 AP on validation subset of challenging DETRAC dataset.
