Phase-resolved Photoacoustic Spectroscopy And Epr Investigation Of Mno2- And Coo-doped Soda-lime Glasses

Get PDF
A discussion on the use of the phase shifts of the photoacoustic signal of different constituents of a composite sample for resolving their individual spectra is presented. It is experimentally shown that as long as we are interested in a qualitative analysis the method is simple and fast. For a quantitative analysis in which the nonradiative relaxation time and the characteristic diffusion time within the optical-absorption depth are sought, the method presents some limitations. This is demonstrated using MnO2- and CoO-doped soda-lime silica glass samples. © 1989 The American Physical Society.40318801884CAS; Chinese Academy of Sciences; DFG; Chinese Academy of Sciences; NRF; Chinese Academy of Sciences; NSFC; Chinese Academy of Sciences; PSI; Chinese Academy of Sciences; RAS; Chinese Academy of Sciences; RFBR; Chinese Academy of Sciences; RPF; Chinese Academy of Sciences; STFC; Chinese Academy of Science

Antiepileptic drugs for the treatment of neuropathic pain : a systematic review

Get PDF
Many therapies have been proposed for the management of neuropathic pain, and they include the use of different antiepileptic drugs. However, the lack of high quality studies indicates that results on the different neuropathic disorders under study do not recommend a particular drug treatment. This study makes a systematic review of the published literature on the use of several antiepileptic drugs to treat neuropathic pain, and has the objective of considering both its clinical characteristics and pharmacological use, which will depend on their level of scientific evidence and will follow the principles of evidence-based dentistry. The articles were stratified according to their scientific evidence using the SORT criteria (Strength of Recommendation Taxonomy), and it included those articles that only have level 1 or 2. Randomized clinical trials were stratified according to their level of quality using the JADAD scale, an instrument described by Jadad et al . (7) . to assess the quality of clinical trials, while studies with a level below 3 were discarded. Recently, type A or B recommendations are given in favor or against the use of antiepileptic drugs to treat neuropathic pain on the basis of their scientific quality

Photoacoustic And Esr Studies Of Iron-doped Soda-lime Glasses: Thermal Diffusivity

Get PDF
The photoacoustic technique is used to measure the thermal diffusivity of iron-doped soda-lime glasses. To explain the thermal diffusivity behavior as a function of the iron content in the samples, electron-spin-resonance data were used. It is concluded that the main reason for the observed changes in the thermal diffusivity is the ferric ion entering substitutionally at the Si4+ sites. © 1989 The American Physical Society.40117912791

Biometry and plasmatic stress-related parameters in brill (Scophthalmus rhombus)cultured at different stocking densities.

The effects of the stocking density on the physiological stress and biometric features of the brill were studied. Fish (491±20 g) were cultured at three different stocking densities: 1; 5 and 15 Kg m-2 (LSD, MSD and HSD) during 5 weeks. Survival and several biometric, feeding and plasmatic parameters were assessed. Although final weight and specific growth rate decreased in higher densities, there were not significant differences between MSD and HSD. Differences for survival rate, feed efficiency, conversion index and feed intake were not detected among treatments. The minimum HSI was found in the HSD treatment, and condition factor varied inversely regards to stocking density. Plasma cortisol and osmolality were directly related to stocking density though the former was not significantly different among treatments. Plasma lactate and glucose significantly increased while stocking density rose. Nevertheless, free fatty acids did not vary among treatments, and triglycerides only decreased in LSD. Ingestive behaviour and performance of feedlot lambs fed saccharine sorghum and corn silages

This study evaluated the ingestive behaviour and performance of feedlot lambs fed saccharine sorghum and corn silages. Ten animals were randomly selected from a group of 32 uncastrated male Suffolk lambs. The four treatments consisted of diets with 50% of silage made from forage sorghum (BD 1615), two varieties of saccharine sorghum (BRS 506 and BRS 511), and corn (BRS 2223). Ingestive behaviour was observed by a scan sampling method using seven strategically positioned video cameras so as not to interfere with the usual animal behaviour. The animals were observed for three 48-hour periods at 15-day intervals, with a total of 144 hours of observation. Video recordings were then examined to identify the time spent in ruminating, eating, drinking water and idling. Times spent feeding or drinking water were not significantly affected by the treatments. Animals fed forage sorghum silage had higher neutral detergent fibre (NDF) intake (0.41 kg of NDF), thus spent more time ruminating (342 min/day). Rumination time was similar for the BD 1615 and BRS 506 silages and was 85 min/day greater than for the BRS 511 and BRS 2223 silages, which were similar. Average daily gain was greater for BRS 2223 (275 g/day) than for BRS 506 and BRS 511 silages, which were similar (196 g/day). Ingestive behaviour for BRS 511 was similar to that observed for BRS 2223. Ingestive behaviour for BRS 506 was similar to that observed for BD 1615. Average daily gain was related to intake and ruminating efficiency. Keywords: eating, idling, roughage, rumination, sheep (Ovis aires
