Hydrothermal complex of the Souk Ahras Basin: geological and hydrogeochemical approaches (north east of Algeria)

North- East of Algeria, in The Souk Ahras region, the Triassic evaporates are in the form of important intrusive masses. Thermal and cold water emerge from various training. These sources present are taking their pathways along the faulting system. A complex multilayered reservoir has significant potential water. The karstic aquifer consists mainly on fresh water. Thermal water characterized by high salinity is carbo-gaseous. Collection and chemical analysis of major water elements in addition to nonionic mineral compounds (SiO2) and trace elements (Sr2+, F-, Br-) have determined a deep saline fluid circulation. The tectonic effect would be responsible for the current water flow. Cartography of fracturing system has identified a NNW-SSE hot spring distribution. Similar alignment can match the faulting system direction affecting the concerned study area. Keywords: Triassic evaporate; thermal waters; tectonic; deep fluid circulatio

Artificial ants to extract leaf outlines and primary venation patterns

    No full text
This paper presents preliminary results on an investigation into using artificial swarms to extract and quantify features in digital images. An ant algorithm has been developed to automatically extract the outlines and primary venation patterns from digital images of living leaf specimens via an edge detection method. A qualitative and quantitative analysis of the results is carried out herein. The artificial swarms are shown to converge onto the edges within the leaf images and statistical accuracy, as measured against ground truth images, is shown to increase in accordance with the swarm convergence. Visual results are promising, however limitations due to background noise need to be addressed for the given application. The findings in this study present potential for increased robustness in using swarm based methods, by exploiting their stigmergic behaviour to reduce the need for parameter fine-tuning with respect to individual image characteristics. © 2008 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg

Mots clés : Nanophtalmie ,forte hypermetropie , plis maculaire , OCT maculaire , échographie oculaire .ABSTRACT :The purpose : Describe the clinical and para-clinical signs in a child with nanophthalmia. Observation: 10-year-old boy, the ophthalmological examination finds a micro cornea, an anterior chamber reduced in ODG, narrow angles to gonioscopy, and in  fundus exam  find a   filled discs with fuzzy margins and horizontal macular folds emanating from the fovea and extending up to the optical disc, ocular ultrasound objective an axial length of 14.5 mm in OD and 16 mm in OG, a scleral thickening, a reduced chamber with a normal-sized lens. The macular OCT confirms the presence of a macular fold in the neurosensory retina sparing the pigment epithelium and the choroid. Discussion: Nanophthalmia is a rare form of congenital microphthalmia in which the anterior and posterior segments are abnormally small, but the lens has normal dimensions, which creates a high volume / lens ratio, associated with abnormalities of the posterior segment including maculopapillary folds reported in our case. Conclusion: Nanophthalmia is a rare blinding pathology due to its complications if it is not taken care of early. Genetic diagnostics will facilitate genetic counseling for familial forms of this anomaly and can help reduce amblyopia due to farsightedness. corrected, and to improve monitoring to minimize glaucoma and retinal complications caused by nanophthalmia.Key words: nanophthalmia, high hyperopia, macular folds, macular OCT, ocular ultrasound

What will cataract surgery look like in the future? Alternatives in the pipeline

    No full text
Phacoemulsification is the most frequently performed surgery in the world. Over the past few years, this surgery seems to have reached a plateau with no further innovative breakthroughs. In this paper, we focus on alternatives techniques, the latest innovations, and the research and development pipeline in this field. (C) 2020 Elsevier Masson SAS.
