Nellix endovascular aortic sealing endoprosthesis late explantation for concomitant type I endoleak and stent frames proximal caudal migration
Endovascular aneurysm sealing (EVAS) using the Nellixâą System was introduced in clinical practice with the aim of reducing the incidence of complications such as migration, endoleaks, and reinterventions after conventional endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR). Although, initial efficacy data on this device have been encouraging, EVAS has also demonstrated to undergo adverse events. Herein, we report a case of Nellix graft explant due to endobags shrinkage after air bubble reabsorption leading to proximal type I A endoleak and stent migration. The focus of this article is on the importance of a more assiduous surveillance of this new device, in particular in those cases with air into the endobags immediately after the procedure; this surveillance should be aimed to timely identify complications which can otherwise lead to consequences that require open conversion
Avalanche ruggedness of parallel SiC power MOSFETs
© 2018 Elsevier Ltd The aim of this paper is to investigate the impact of electro-thermal device parameter spread on the avalanche ruggedness of parallel silicon carbide (SiC) power MOSFETs representative of multi-chip layout within an integrated power module. The tests were conducted on second generation 1200 V, 36 Aâ80 mΩ rated devices. Different temperature-dependent electrical parameters were identified and measured for a number of devices. The influence of spread in measured parameters was investigated experimentally during avalanche breakdown transient switching events and important findings have been highlighted
Blood Viscosity in Subjects With Normoglycemia and Prediabetes
OBJECTIVE Blood viscosity (BV) is higher in diabetic patients and might represent a risk factor for the development of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. However, data in subjects with normal glucose or prediabetes are missing. In the current study, we evaluated the relationship between BV and blood glucose in subjects with normal glucose or prediabetes. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Enrolled subjects were divided into three groups according to blood glucose: group A ( n = 74), blood glucose <90 mg/dL; group B ( n = 96), blood glucose ranging from 90 to 99 mg/dL; and group C ( n = 94), blood glucose ranging from 100 to 125 mg/dL. BV was measured at 37°C with a cone-plate viscometer at shear rates ranging from 225 to 22.5 sâ1. RESULTS Blood pressure, blood lipids, fibrinogen, and plasma viscosity were similar in the three groups. BMI and waist circumference were significantly increased in group C. Hematocrit ( P < 0.05) and BV ( P between 0.01 and 0.001) were significantly higher in groups B and C compared with group A. Blood glucose was significantly and inversely correlated with HDL cholesterol and directly with BMI, waist, hematocrit ( r = 0.134), and BV (from 225 sâ1 to 22.5 sâ1; r ranging from 0.162 to 0.131). BV at shear rate 225 sâ1 was independently associated with blood glucose. CONCLUSIONS The current study shows a direct relationship between BV and blood glucose in nondiabetic subjects. It also suggests that, even within glucose values considered completely normal, individuals with higher blood glucose levels have increased BV comparable with that observed in subjects with prediabetes
Breast Cancer Chemotherapeutic Options: A General Overview on the Preclinical Validation of a Multi-Target Ruthenium(III) Complex Lodged in Nucleolipid Nanosystems
In this review we have showcased the preclinical development of original amphiphilic nanomaterials designed for ruthenium-based anticancer treatments, to be placed within the current metallodrugs approach leading over the past decade to advanced multitarget agents endowed with limited toxicity and resistance. This strategy could allow for new options for breast cancer (BC) interventions, including the triple-negative subtype (TNBC) with poor therapeutic alternatives. BC is currently the second most widespread cancer and the primary cause of cancer death in women. Hence, the availability of novel chemotherapeutic weapons is a basic requirement to fight BC subtypes. Anticancer drugs based on ruthenium are among the most explored and advanced next-generation metallotherapeutics, with NAMI-A and KP1019 as two iconic ruthenium complexes having undergone clinical trials. In addition, many nanomaterial Ru complexes have been recently conceived and developed into anticancer drugs demonstrating attractive properties. In this field, we focused on the evaluation of a Ru(III) complex-named AziRu-incorporated into a suite of both zwitterionic and cationic nucleolipid nanosystems, which proved to be very effective for the in vivo targeting of breast cancer cells (BBC). Mechanisms of action have been widely explored in the context of preclinical evaluations in vitro, highlighting a multitarget action on cell death pathways which are typically deregulated in neoplasms onset and progression. Moreover, being AziRu inspired by the well-known NAMI-A complex, information on non-nanostructured Ru-based anticancer agents have been included in a precise manner
Markers of insulin resistance and carotid atherosclerosis. A comparison of the homeostasis model assessment and triglyceride glucose index.
Summary Aims The present investigation was designed to test the association between carotid atherosclerosis and two simple markers of insulin resistance, i.e. HOMA-Index and TyG-Index. Materials and methods The study was performed in two different cohorts. In the first cohort, 330 individuals were enrolled. Blood pressure, lipids, glucose, waist and cigarette smoking were evaluated. HOMA-IR and TyG-Index were calculated as markers of prevalent hepatic and muscular insulin resistance respectively. Carotid atherosclerosis was assessed by Doppler ultrasonography. The association between cardiovascular risk factors, markers of insulin resistance and carotid atherosclerosis was assessed by multiple logistic regression analyses. In the second cohort, limited to the evaluation of TyG-Index, 1432 subjects were studied. Results In the first cohort, TyG-Index was significantly associated with carotid atherosclerosis in a model including age, sex, diabetes, cigarette smoking and LDL cholesterol, while HOMA-IR was not. When components of metabolic syndrome were added to the model as dichotomous variables (absent/present), TyG-Index retained its predictive power. The same result was obtained when the metabolic syndrome was added to the model (absence/presence). The association between TyG-Index and carotid atherosclerosis was confirmed in the second cohort. Conclusions The present findings suggest that TyG-Index is better associated with carotid atherosclerosis than HOMA-IR
Structural and optoelectronical characterization of Si-SiO_2/SiO_2 multilayers with applications in all Si tandem solar cells
SiO_2 multilayers with embedded Si nanocrystals (Si-ncs) were investigated as an approach for developing highly efficient all Si tandem solar cells. The nanostructured samples, fabricated by means of a reactive magnetron sputtering, were structurally and optoelectronically characterized using different techniques. High resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and energy filtered images in TEM show a high density of Si-nc with uniform sizes below 4 nm, while electrical characterization indicates high resistance values (10^2 kΩ) of these samples. In order to develop a better understanding of the optoelectronical behavior, photocurrent I-V curves were measured, obtaining variations under "dark" or "illumination" conditions. Recombination lifetimes in the order of tenths of nanoseconds were estimated by applying the transverse pump/probe technique
Single pulse avalanche robustness and repetitive stress ageing of SiC power MOSFETs
This paper presents an extensive electro-thermal characterisation of latest generation silicon carbide (SiC) Power MOSFETs under unclamped inductive switching (UIS) conditions. Tests are carried out to thoroughly understand the single pulse avalanche ruggedness limits of commercial SiC MOSFETs and assess their aging under repetitive stress conditions. Both a functional and a structural characterisation of the transistors is presented, with the aim of informing future device technology development for robust and reliable power system development
Thermography as a method to detect dental anxiety in oral surgery
(1) Background: the aim of this study was to evaluate if dental anxiety can be measured objectively using thermal infrared imaging. (2) Methods: Patients referred to the Department of Oral Surgery of the University of Naples Federico II and requiring dental extractions were consecutively enrolled in the study. Face thermal distribution images of the patients were acquired before and during their first clinical examination using infrared thermal cameras. The data were analyzed in relation to five regions of interest (ROI) of the patientâs face (nose, ear, forehead, zygoma, chin). The differences in the temperatures assessed between the two measurements for each ROI were evaluated by using paired Tâtest. The Pearson correlation and linear regression were performed to evaluate the association between differences in temperatures and Modified Dental Anxiety Scale (MDAS) questionnaire score, age, and gender; (3) results: sixty participants were enrolled in the study (28 males and 32 females; mean age 57.4 yearâold; age range 18â80 yearâold). Only for nose and ear zone there was a statistically significant difference between measurements at baseline and visit. Correlation between the thermal imaging measurements and the scores of the MDAS questionnaire was found for nose and ear, but not for all of the other regions. (4) Conclusions: the study demonstrated a potential use of thermal infrared imaging to measure dental anxiety
Human coronary inflammation by computed tomography: Relationship with coronary microvascular dysfunction
Background A new imaging metric using coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA), addressing the peri-coronary adipose tissue (PCAT) computed tomography (CT) attenuation, has been clinically validated. This method provides information regarding coronary inflammation. It is unclear how coronary inflammation affects microvascular function. The non-invasive evaluation of coronary flow velocity reserve is widely used in clinical practice using Doppler measurement on the left anterior descending coronary artery (CFVR-lad) during stress-echocardiography (SE). We hypothesize that coronary inflammation affects CFVR-lad and, in the absence of overt CAD, they are significantly correlated. Methods We evaluated the relationship between coronary inflammation (by PCAT CT attenuation) and coronary microvascular function (by CFVR-lad) in subjects with no or non-obstructive (diameter stenosis <70%) coronary artery disease (CAD). Results Two-hundred and two subjects were enrolled in the study. The relationship between PCAT CT attenuation and CFVR-lad show a significant inverse relationship in the entire group of subjects enrolled in the study (r = â0.32, p < 0.001). Correlation between PCAT CT attenuation and CFVR-lad was significant in subjects with no or mild CAD-lad, while this was not the case in subjects with intermediate CAD-lad. The R and R2 were respectively â0.40, â0.16 in subjects without CAD (p < 0.001) and â 0.35 and â 0.12 in subjects with mild CAD-lad (p = 0.001). Conclusions The main finding of the current study is the independent relationship between coronary microvascular function, by Doppler CFVR-lad during SE, in subjects without severely obstructive CAD in the left anterior descending coronary artery, and the level of local coronary inflammation, by PCAT attenuation measurement on CCTA
