Synthesis of ultra-small Si/Ge semiconductor nano-particles using electrochemistry
Cataloged from PDF version of article. In this paper, we describe the formation of colloidal Si/Ge semiconductor nano-particles by electrochemical
etching of Ge quantum dots (GEDOT), SiliconeGermanium graded layers (GRADE) and
SiliconeGermanium multi-quantum well (MQW) structures which are prepared on Silicon wafers using
low pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD) technique. The formation of Si/Ge nano-particles is
verified by transmission electron microscope (TEM) images and photoluminescence (PL) measurements.
The Si/Ge nano-particles obtained from GEDOT and GRADE structures, gave blue emissions, upon
250 nm, and 300 nm UV excitations. However, the nano-particles obtained from the MQW structure did
exhibit various color emissions (orange, blue, green and red) upon excitation with 250 nm, 360 nm,
380 nm and 400 nm wavelength light.

A Near-Infrared Range Photodetector Based on Indium Nitride Nanocrystals Obtained Through Laser Ablation
Cataloged from PDF version of article. We present a proof-of-concept photodetector that is sensitive in the near-infrared (NIR) range based on InN nanocrystals. Indium nitride nanocrystals (InN-NCs) are obtained through laser ablation of a high pressure chemical vapor deposition grown indium nitride thin film and are used as optically active absorption region. InN-NCs are sandwiched between thin insulating films to reduce the electrical leakage current. Under -1 V applied bias, the recorded photoresponsivity values within 600-1100-nm wavelength range are as high as 3.05 x 10(-2) mA/W. An ultrathin layer of nanocrystalline InN thin film is, therefore, a promising candidate for NIR detection in large area schemes. © 2014 IEEE
Enhanced memory effect via quantum confinement in 16 nm InN nanoparticles embedded in ZnO charge trapping layer
Cataloged from PDF version of article. In this work, the fabrication of charge trapping memory cells with laser-synthesized indium-nitride nanoparticles (InN-NPs) embedded in ZnO charge trapping layer is demonstrated. Atomic layer deposited Al2O3 layers are used as tunnel and blocking oxides. The gate contacts are sputtered using a shadow mask which eliminates the need for any lithography steps. High frequency C-Vgate measurements show that a memory effect is observed, due to the charging of the InN-NPs. With a low operating voltage of 4 V, the memory shows a noticeable threshold voltage (Vt) shift of 2 V, which indicates that InN-NPs act as charge trapping centers. Without InN-NPs, the observed memory hysteresis is negligible. At higher programming voltages of 10 V, a memory window of 5 V is achieved and the Vt shift direction indicates that electrons tunnel from channel to charge storage layer.

Generation of InN nanocrystals in organic solution through laser ablation of high pressure chemical vapor deposition-grown InN thin film
Cataloged from PDF version of article. We report the synthesis of colloidal InN nanocrystals (InN-NCs) in organic solution through nanosecond pulsed laser ablation of high pressure chemical vapor deposition-grown InN thin film on GaN/sapphire template substrate. The size, the structural, the optical, and the chemical characteristics of InN-NCs demonstrate that the colloidal InN crystalline nanostructures in ethanol are synthesized with spherical shape within 5.9-25.3, 5.45-34.8, 3.24-36 nm particle-size distributions, increasing the pulse energy value. The colloidal InN-NCs solutions present strong absorption edge tailoring from NIR region to UV region. © 2012 Springer Science+Business Media B.V

Abstract
Airway responsiveness to methacholine (Mch) in the absence of deep inspirations (DIs) is lower in athletes compared with sedentary individuals. In this prospective study, we tested the hypothesis that a training exercise program reduces the bronchoconstrictive effect of Mch. Ten healthy sedentary subjects (M/F: 3/7; mean + or - SD age: 22 + or - 3 yr) entered a 10-wk indoor rowing exercise program on rowing ergometer and underwent Mch bronchoprovocation in the absence of DIs at baseline, at weeks 5 and 10, as well as 4-6 wk after the training program was completed. Exercise-induced changes on airway cells and markers of airway inflammation were also assessed by sputum induction and venous blood samples. Mean power output during the 1,000 m test was 169 + or - 49 W/stroke at baseline, 174 + or - 49 W/stroke at 5 wk, and 200 + or - 60 W/stroke at 10 wk of training (P < 0.05). The median Mch dose used at baseline was 50 mg/ml (range 25-75 mg/ml) and remained constant per study design. At the pretraining evaluation, the percent reduction in the primary outcome, the inspiratory vital capacity (IVC) after inhalation of Mch in the absence of DIs was 31 +/- 13%; at week 5, the Mch-induced reduction in IVC was 22 + or - 19%, P = 0.01, and it further decreased to 15 + or - 11% at week 10 (P = 0.0008). The percent fall in IVC 4-6 wk after the end of training was 15 + or - 11% (P = 0.87 vs. end of training). Changes in airway cells were not associated with changes in airway responsiveness. Our data show that a course of exercise training can attenuate airway responsiveness against Mch inhaled in the absence of DIs in healthy subjects and suggest that a sedentary lifestyle may favor development of airways hyperresponsiveness.

Meta-analysis of genome-wide association studies of asthma in ethnically diverse North American populations.
Asthma is a common disease with a complex risk architecture including both genetic and environmental factors. We performed a meta-analysis of North American genome-wide association studies of asthma in 5,416 individuals with asthma (cases) including individuals of European American, African American or African Caribbean, and Latino ancestry, with replication in an additional 12,649 individuals from the same ethnic groups. We identified five susceptibility loci. Four were at previously reported loci on 17q21, near IL1RL1, TSLP and IL33, but we report for the first time, to our knowledge, that these loci are associated with asthma risk in three ethnic groups. In addition, we identified a new asthma susceptibility locus at PYHIN1, with the association being specific to individuals of African descent (P = 3.9 × 10(-9)). These results suggest that some asthma susceptibility loci are robust to differences in ancestry when sufficiently large samples sizes are investigated, and that ancestry-specific associations also contribute to the complex genetic architecture of asthma

Sustainability Starts from Within: A critical analysis of internal marketing in supporting sustainable value co-creation in B2B organizations
The role of value co-creation in embedding sustainability within B2B marketing is well-documented. However, little is known about how employees enact this value co-creation, or how they can be supported to do so by their organisations. This article addresses this theoretical gap by analysing the role of employees and Internal Marketing in B2B organisations' efforts to co-create sustainable value. We propose that, since employees are tasked with delivering their organisation's ‘promise’, they can also purposely generate value for a broader range of stakeholders. As such, Internal Marketing can be a key enabler (or inhibitor) in these efforts. Adopting a Service-Dominant Logic and Service Gap lens, the research utilises Template Analysis of 17 semi-structured interviews with employees from a range of B2B organisations, which have adopted ‘sustainability-oriented’ practices. The findings highlight the contribution of Internal Marketing in supporting sustainable value, and demonstrate that, whilst employees can play a key role in the co-creation of sustainable value, value co-destruction can occur due to a ‘Sustainability gap’ within their organisations. This study contributes significantly to extant knowledge by offering a taxonomized analysis of the ‘sustainability gap’ and identifying how B2B organisations can address these at the awareness, design, internal communication, and implementation stages.</p
