Theoretical and Experimental Considerations for Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay
In the rst part of this work we show some theoretical aspects of the generation of the neutrino mass by means of a direct extension of the Standard Model of particles, which include the presence of heavy right-handed neutrinos and large Majorana mass terms. From these two new ingredients, it is possible to nd a mass for the light neutrinos which is naturally of the order of 1 eV or less. The idea is to put these theoretical aspects in the context of the search for neutrino mass values by the study of the signal from the Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay Process (0 ). In the second part, a brief summary is given of the experimental considerations required for the measurement of effective Majorana neutrino mass using (0 ). Measurement strategies and background considerations are introduced and an outline of both active and passive methods is given. Finally, current results are discussed with particular emphasis on the HeidelbergMoscow experiment. This note is based on the presentation given at the CERNCLAF 4th Latin American School on High-Energy Physics
Recognising facial expressions in video sequences
We introduce a system that processes a sequence of images of a front-facing human face and recognises a set of facial expressions. We use an efficient appearance-based face tracker to locate the face in the image sequence and estimate the deformation of its non-rigid components. The tracker works in real-time. It is robust to strong illumination changes and factors out changes in appearance caused by illumination from changes due to face deformation. We adopt a model-based approach for facial expression recognition. In our model, an image of a face is represented by a point in a deformation space. The variability of the classes of images associated to facial expressions are represented by a set of samples which model a low-dimensional manifold in the space of deformations. We introduce a probabilistic procedure based on a nearest-neighbour approach to combine the information provided by the incoming image sequence with the prior information stored in the expression manifold in order to compute a posterior probability associated to a facial expression. In the experiments conducted we show that this system is able to work in an unconstrained environment with strong changes in illumination and face location. It achieves an 89\% recognition rate in a set of 333 sequences from the Cohn-Kanade data base
A Statistical Study of the Amount of Radiation Generated from Communication Towers in the Nineveh Plain Region, Baghdeda
This research presents a statistical study of radiation generated from communication towers in the Nineveh Plain region Baghdeda. The intensity of radiation energy was measured at 10 meters away from the communication tower in different locations, using a (1PC XH-901 Dosimeter/ Personal Dose Alarm / Radiation Detector, dosage rate: 0.01 μSv/h to 150μSv/h) to measure the amount of radiation at various times. Energy densities were measured and compared with standard limits provided by other authorities, such as the International Committee for Radiation Protection. Results were analyzed using SPSS version 26 to implement the data. The results show that the means of the radiation levels measured at all the zones do not statistically differ from the highest values determined globally 0.50-1.70 μSv/y; they lie within the radiation-free zones. Civilians may not always have a choice where the mobile tower will place. As a result, it may rely on some quick fixes, such as certified radiation protection items that offer all-around protection from mobile tower irradiance. The radiation shielding technology used in these goods alters the nature of irradiation from a constant to a variable waveform, rendering it useless
SWAT SUBBASINS PARAMETERS AND FLOOD RISK SIMULATIONS USING 3D IN TERENGGANU WATERSHED
Flood is one of the natural disasters that occurs mostly due to climate characteristics and locations. The application
of SWAT has categorized the subbasins and identify them on the basis of parameters. The use of GIS technology
produces the flood risk zone through the 3D ArcScene 10.3. the ArcGIS 10.3 and ArcSWAT 2012 were employed for
the analysis of the result. The remote sensing data from ASTER DEM was also been used for providing the highresolution platform. One of the significance of this study is the identification of 25 different sub-basins with their
individual parameters that make easiear to classify and explore. The 3Dsimulation produces different categories of
flood risk zone from very high vulnerability of flood to no flood risk zone. All these are confined within the 25
subbasins parameters obtained from the catchment area of Terengganu. The model designed in this study is clearly
going to be useful for planning as well as management not only in Terengganu but entire Malaysia or similar
environment
Measurement of the t-channel single top quark production cross section
The D0 collaboration reports direct evidence for electroweak production of
single top quarks through the t-channel exchange of a virtual W boson. This is
the first analysis to isolate an individual single top quark production
channel. We select events containing an isolated electron or muon, missing
transverse energy, and two, three or four jets from 2.3 fb^-1 of ppbar
collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. One or two of the jets are
identified as containing a b hadron. We combine three multivariate techniques
optimized for the t-channel process to measure the t- and s-channel cross
sections simultaneously. We measure cross sections of 3.14 +0.94 -0.80 pb for
the t-channel and 1.05 +-0.81 pb for the s-channel. The measured t-channel
result is found to have a significance of 4.8 standard deviations and is
consistent with the standard model prediction.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figure
Measurement of trilinear gauge boson couplings from WW + WZ to lnu jj events in pp-bar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV
We present a direct measurement of trilinear gauge boson couplings at gammaWW
and ZWW vertices in WW and WZ events produced in pp-bar collisions at
sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV. We consider events with one electron or muon, missing
transverse energy, and at least two jets. The data were collected using the D0
detector and correspond to 1.1/fb of integrated luminosity. Considering two
different relations between the couplings at the gammaWW and ZWW vertices, we
measure these couplings at 68% C.L. to be kappa_{gamma}=1.07^{+0.26}_{-0.29},
lambda =0.00^{+0.06}_{-0.06} and g_{1}^{Z}=1.04^{+0.09}_{-0.09} in a scenario
respecting SU(2)_L x U(1)_Y gauge symmetry and kappa =1.04^{+0.11}_{-0.11} and
lambda=0.00^{+0.06}_{-0.06} in an "equal couplings" scenario.Comment: 14 pages, 7 figures, published in Phys. Rev. D, updated to published

Measurement of the B0_s semileptonic branching ratio to an orbitally excited D_s** state, Br(B0_s -> Ds1(2536) mu nu)
In a data sample of approximately 1.3 fb-1 collected with the D0 detector
between 2002 and 2006, the orbitally excited charm state D_s1(2536) has been
observed with a measured mass of 2535.7 +/- 0.6 (stat) +/- 0.5 (syst) MeV via
the decay mode B0_s -> D_s1(2536) mu nu X. A first measurement is made of the
branching ratio product Br(b(bar) -> D_s1(2536) mu nu X).Br(D_s1(2536)->D*
K0_S). Assuming that D_s1(2536) production in semileptonic decay is entirely
from B0_s, an extraction of the semileptonic branching ratio Br(B0_s ->
D_s1(2536) mu nu X) is made.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures, LaTeX, version with minor changes as accepted by

Simultaneous measurement of the ratio B(t->Wb)/B(t->Wq) and the top quark pair production cross section with the D0 detector at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV
We present the first simultaneous measurement of the ratio of branching
fractions, R=B(t->Wb)/B(t->Wq), with q being a d, s, or b quark, and the top
quark pair production cross section sigma_ttbar in the lepton plus jets channel
using 0.9 fb-1 of ppbar collision data at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV collected with the
D0 detector. We extract R and sigma_ttbar by analyzing samples of events with
0, 1 and >= 2 identified b jets. We measure R = 0.97 +0.09-0.08 (stat+syst) and
sigma_ttbar = 8.18 +0.90-0.84 (stat+syst)} +/-0.50 (lumi) pb, in agreement with
the standard model prediction.Comment: submitted to Phys.Rev.Letter
Measurements of differential cross sections of Z/gamma*+jets+X events in proton anti-proton collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV
We present cross section measurements for Z/gamma*+jets+X production,
differential in the transverse momenta of the three leading jets. The data
sample was collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron proton
anti-proton collider at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV and corresponds to
an integrated luminosity of 1 fb-1. Leading and next-to-leading order
perturbative QCD predictions are compared with the measurements, and agreement
is found within the theoretical and experimental uncertainties. We also make
comparisons with the predictions of four event generators. Two
parton-shower-based generators show significant shape and normalization
differences with respect to the data. In contrast, two generators combining
tree-level matrix elements with a parton shower give a reasonable description
of the the shapes observed in data, but the predicted normalizations show
significant differences with respect to the data, reflecting large scale
uncertainties. For specific choices of scales, the normalizations for either
generator can be made to agree with the measurements.Comment: Published in PLB. 11 pages, 3 figure
Measurement of the W boson mass
We present a measurement of the W boson mass in W -> ev decays using 1 fb^-1
of data collected with the D0 detector during Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron
collider. With a sample of 499830 W -> ev candidate events, we measure M_W =
80.401 +- 0.043 GeV. This is the most precise measurement from a single
experiment.Comment: As published in PR
