Phase Field Model for Dynamics of Sweeping Interface
Motivated by the drying pattern experiment by Yamazaki and Mizuguchi[J. Phys.
Soc. Jpn. {\bf 69} (2000) 2387], we propose the dynamics of sweeping interface,
in which material distributed over a region is swept by a moving interface. A
model based on a phase field is constructed and results of numerical
simulations are presented for one and two dimensions. Relevance of the present

Relationships between a roller and a dynamic pressure distribution in circular hydraulic jumps
We investigated numerically the relation between a roller and the pressure
distribution to clarify the dynamics of the roller in circular hydraulic jumps.
We found that a roller which characterizes a type II jump is associated with
two high pressure regions after the jump, while a type I jump (without the
roller) is associated with only one high pressure region. Our numerical results

SXDF-UDS-CANDELS-ALMA 1.5 arcmin deep survey
We have conducted 1.1 mm ALMA observations of a contiguous or 1.5 arcmin window in the SXDF-UDS-CANDELS. We achieved a 5
sensitivity of 0.28 mJy, providing a flat sensus of dusty star-forming galaxies
with (for =40K) up to
thanks to the negative K-correction at this wavelength. We detected 5
brightest sources (S/N6) and 18 low-significance sources (5S/N4; these
may contain spurious detections, though). One of the 5 brightest ALMA sources
( mJy) is extremely faint in the WFC3 and
VLT/HAWK-I images, demonstrating that a contiguous ALMA imaging survey is able
to uncover a faint dust-obscured population that is invisible in deep
optical/near-infrared surveys. We found a possible [CII]-line emitter at
or a low- CO emitting galaxy within the field, which may allow us
to constrain the [CII] and/or the CO luminosity functions across the history of

Stellar properties of z ~ 1 Lyman-break galaxies from ACS slitless grism spectra
Lyman-break galaxies are now regularly found in the high redshift Universe by
searching for the break in the galaxy spectrum caused by the Lyman-limit
redshifted into the optical or even near-IR. At lower redshift, this break is
covered by the GALEX UV channels and small samples of z ~ 1 LBGs have been
presented in the literature. Here we give results from fitting the spectral
energy distributions of a small sub-set of low redshift LBGs and demonstrate
the advantage of including photometric points derived from HST ACS slitless
grism observations. The results show these galaxies to have very young, star
forming populations, while still being massive and dusty. LBGs at low and high
redshift show remarkable similarities in their properties, indicating that the
LBG selection method picks similar galaxies throughout the Universe.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables, accepted in A&
Two-dimensional simulation of pellet ablation with atomic processes
A two-dimensional hydrodynamic simulation code CAP has been developed in order to investigate the dynamics of hydrogenic pellet ablation in magnetized plasmas throughout their temporal evolution. One of the properties of the code is that it treats the solid-to-gas phase change at the pellet surface without imposing artificial boundary conditions there, as done in previous ablation models. The simulation includes multispecies atomic processes, mainly molecular dissociation and thermal ionization in the ablation flow beyond the pellet, with a kinetic heat flux model. It was found that ionization causes the formation of a quasistationary shock front in the supersonic region of the ablation flow, followed by a "second" sonic surface farther out. Anisotropic heating, due to the directionality of the magnetic field, contributes to a nonuniform ablation (recoil) pressure distribution over the pellet surface. Since the shear stress can exceed the yield strength of the solid for a sufficiently high heat flux, the solid pellet can be fluidized and flattened into a "pancake" shape while the pellet is ablating and losing mass. The effect of pellet deformation can shorten the pellet lifetime almost 3× from that assuming the pellet remains rigid and stationary during ablation
