Climate Signals from stable water isotope records for the last millennium from northern Greenland
Ice cores from polar ice sheets provide a unique archive for past climatic variations. But due to their remoteness
Greenland and Antarctica are up to now still to large extent unstudied areas.
Deep ice cores represent single spots. To get an estimate for the regional representativeness of one ice core and to
set the results from deep cores into a wider regional picture more drill sites are necessary covering a larger area.
A set of 13 shallow inter-mediate depth (100-150 m) ice cores were drilled during the AWI-North Greenland
traverse (NGT) in the 1990ies. It covers 500 to 1000 years back in time and offers the possibility to assess regional
representativeness.
These 13 single records were analyzed for their water isotopic composition (delta18O) and have been averaged to
produce an isotope stack for North Greenland.
The main objectives of this study are 1) to analyse this new dataset for its spatial variability and to evaluate the
impact of isotopic noise, 2) to assess whether stable water isotope records from sites with very low accumulation
rates can also be interpreted as climate signals, 3) to present a new stacked isotope record and 4) to interpret this in
terms of paleoclimate (temporal variability, relation to large scale climate information from other ice-core records etc.)

Portuguese history storyboard
This paper intends to present relevant facts about the Portuguese culture
and history, so as to enable a better understanding of who the Portuguese are
and provide an overall perspective of the course of history in this westernmost
part of Europe. Although the choice of historical facts was subjective by nature,
it is believed it achieves the aim of presenting information in a critical but
blithesome way, with a view to also deconstructing national stereotypes, such
as that Portuguese people are always late or are crazy about football. Finally, it
focuses on some information about the Portuguese language mainly to serve as
a term of comparison with other European languages
A Reflection on the Interrelations Between Business Process Management and Requirements Engineering with an Agility Perspective
The paper points out some aspects of the interrelations between business process management, agility, flexibility, and requirements engineering. It shows some possibilities for agile development of business processes and for the development of flexible processes for changing requirements
DIS3 isoforms vary in their endoribonuclease activity and are differentially expressed within haematological cancers
DIS3 is the catalytic subunit of the exosome, a protein complex involved in the 3’ to 5’ degradation of RNAs. DIS3 is a highly conserved exoribonuclease, also known as Rrp44. Global sequencing studies have identified DIS3 as being mutated in a range of cancers, with a considerable incidence in multiple myeloma. In this work, we have identified two proteincoding isoforms of DIS3. Both isoforms are functionally relevant and result from alternative splicing. They differ from each other in the size of their N-terminal PIN domain, which has been shown to have endoribonuclease activity and tether DIS3 to the exosome. Isoform 1 encodes a full-length PIN domain, whereas the PIN domain of isoform 2 is shorter and is
missing a segment with conserved amino-acids. We have carried out biochemical activity assays on both isoforms of full-length DIS3 as well as the isolated PIN domains. We find that isoform 2, despite missing part of the PIN domain, has greater endonuclease activity compared to isoform 1. Examination of the available structural information allows us to provide a hypothesis to explain this altered behaviour. Our results also show that multiple myeloma patient cells and all cancer cell lines tested have higher levels of isoform 1 compared to isoform 2 whereas Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML) patient cells and samples from healthy donors have similar levels of isoforms 1 and 2. Together, our data indicate that significant changes in the ratios of the two isoforms could be symptomatic of haematological cancers
