Antioxidants as stabilizers of UV filters: an example for the UV-B filter octylmethoxycinnamate

Background: Sunlight is one of the main harmful exogenous factors that induce the reactive oxygen species formation. The human skin is the first line of photoprotection against harmful exogenous factors, such as UV radiations. The topical application of sunscreens, containing UV-B filters, is widely used to protect against UV-induced damage. Octylmethoxycinnamate is the world’s most widely used UV-B filter in sunscreens. However, recent studies have demonstrated that this substance is an endocrine disruptor compound and with potential to damage DNA. Thus, the safety of this organic filter is a current concern for human health, and it was urgent to develop new photoprotective strategies. In this sense, due to the potential to neutralize the UV-induced free radicals, the use of antioxidants as UV filter stabilizers presented as a novel promising strategy. Research: The purpose of this review was to assess the use of antioxidants as stabilizers for UV-B filter octylmethoxycinnamate. For this, we discuss the chemical and physical characteristics of UV-B filter octylmethoxycinnamate, emphasizing the stability, photostability, and reactivity of this UV filter. The use of antioxidants in sunscreens will also be addressed, from a perspective of the main characteristics that allowed their use in sunscreen formulations. Then, the concomitant use of both was described from a historical and physical chemical perspective, always emphasizing the advantages and disadvantages of this association. Potassium channels are involved in testosterone-induced vasorelaxation of human umbilical artery

Recent studies have shown that testosterone induces relaxation of different arteries, although the mechanism of this action is still under debate. We investigated the involvement of potassium channels in this mechanism. Using standard organ bath techniques, rings of human umbilical arteries (HUA) without endothelium were contracted by serotonin (5-HT, 1 μM), histamine (10 μM) and potassium chloride (KCl, 30 and 60 mM), and the vasorelaxant effect of testosterone was analysed. Testosterone (100 μM) relaxed human umbilical arteries contracted with 5-HT (30.1±3.2%), histamine (55.1±2.6%), KCl 30 mM (52.9±8.3%) and KCl 60 mM (54.8±6.3%). Flutamide (10 μM), an inhibitor of classical intracellular testosterone receptor, and glibenclamide, an ATP-sensitive potassium-channels (KATP) inhibitor, did not influence the testosterone relaxant effect. 4-aminopyridine, a voltagesensitive potassium-channels (Kv) inhibitor, decreased the effect of testosterone on histamine- and 5-HT-contracted arteries. Tetraethylammonium (TEA), which inhibits Kv channels and large-conductance Ca2+-activated potassium channels (BKCa), decreased the effect of testosterone on KCl (60 mM)-contracted and 5-HT-contracted HUA. In conclusion, testosterone induces relaxation of HUA, and this effect does not appear to be mediated via a classic intracellular testosterone receptor-dependent mechanism. Our results suggest that this relaxation is partially mediated by activation of BKCa and KV channels. Testosterone and Cholesterol Vasodilation of Rat Aorta Involves L-Type Calcium Channel Inhibition

Testosterone has rapid nongenomic vasodilator effects which could be involved in protective cardiovascular actions. Several authors suggested specific mechanisms to explain this effect, but this matter was not clarified yet. We studied the actions of testosterone and cholesterol on endothelium-denuded rat aorta and their effects on the L-type Ca2+ current (ICa,L) and potassium current (IK). Testosterone (1–100 μM) totally relaxed, in a rapid and concentration-dependent way, the aortic rings contracted by KCl or by (−)-Bay K8644 (BAY). Cholesterol also fully relaxed the contractions induced by KCl. None of the potassium channel antagonists tested (glibenclamide, tetraethylammonium and 4-aminopyridine) modified significantly the relaxant effect of testosterone. The antagonist of classic testosterone receptors, flutamide, did not modify the vasorelaxant effect of testosterone. Furthermore, testosterone and cholesterol inhibited either basal and BAY-stimulated ICa,L in A7r5 cells and they have no effects on IK. In summary, our results demonstrate that cholesterol and testosterone relax rat aorta by inhibiting LTCC. This effect of testosterone is not mediated by the classic hormone receptor or by potassium channel activation. These results suggest that the vasodilator mechanism of cholesterol and testosterone is the same

A study on the tourist experiences in the Peneda-Gerês National Park: impact on satisfaction, loyalty and recommendations

This study aims to validate the multidimensional concept of a tourist destination by correlating the tourist's relationship with the lived experience. It is intended to evaluate the experience lived in the Peneda-Gerês National Park through five tourist sensorial dimensions: i. perception; ii. feeling of place (identification); iii. destination image; iv. equity and v. loyalty to destination. For this purpose, an online survey was carried out with a sample population of 265 non-residents in the Peneda-Gerês National Park territory. A multivariate analysis was performed to the collected data; it made it possible to validate the experience lived in the Peneda-Gerês National Park through the 5 sensory factors considered in the research. Results prove that some demographic variables have an important impact on the toruists’ experience and, consequently, in the image of the Peneda-Gerês National Park., This work allowed validating the importance of the five sensory factors in terms of building the image of a tourist destination, as well as identifying, through the tourist's experience, which are the most relevant aspects that allow systematizing a set of endogenous factors associated with an interesting tourist destination for future visits and/or suggestions for other visitors.C817-2663-8B86 | Manuel Joaquim de Sousa PereiraN/

A publicidade é resiliente, moldando-se à realidade, seja aos bons, seja aos maus momentos, como os que vivemos atualmente. Em plena crise sanitária, a publicidade digitalizou-se ainda mais, mas continuou a reger-se por princípios persuasivos (racionais e emocionais), bem como informativos. A publicidade emocional impõe-se como dominante, não obstante a componente racional fazer-se notar em certos setores como aquele de que aqui nos ocupamos – o da hotelaria. Vascular Pathways of Testosterone: Clinical Implications

Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Testosterone (T) is an important sex hormone that triggers several genomic and non-genomic pathways, leading to improvements of several cardiovascular risk factors and quality of life in men. At the vascular level, the key effect of T is the vasorelaxation. This review discusses the molecular pathways and clinical implications of T in the vascular system. Firstly, the mechanisms involved in the T vasodilator effect will be presented. Then, it will be discussed the association of T with the main risks for CVD, namely metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity, atherosclerosis, dyslipidaemia and hypertension. Several studies have shown a correlation between low T levels and an increased prevalence of several CVD. Projeto, Licenciamento, Fiscalização de Obra e Avaliação Imobiliária

Pretende o presente relatório descrever de forma resumida, as várias experiencias profissionais tanto a nível do licenciamento municipal realizado na Câmara Municipal da Guarda, como a nível de execução de projetos e direção de fiscalização de obras, inerentes à profissão liberal exercida fora do concelho da Guarda. O capítulo do licenciamento municipal, descreve a organização da Câmara Municipal, mais concretamente no que respeita ao licenciamento de obras particulares no âmbito das atribuições da Divisão de Planeamento, Gestão Urbanística e Obras Municipais, na subunidade de Gestão Urbanística. A gestão urbanística abrange os procedimentos administrativos necessários à instrução e tramitação de processos de todos os tipos de operações urbanísticas, tipificadas no Regime Jurídico de Urbanização e Edificação (D.L. nº. 555/99 de 16/12, alterado e republicado pelo D.L. 26/2010 de 30 de Março, com as alterações introduzidas pela Lei n.º 28/2010, de 2 de Setembro). Com este ponto, pretende descrever-se a principal Legislação necessária para as tarefas inerentes ao licenciamento municipal, referindo mesmo os principais temas em que é exercida a intervenção, ao nível da emissão de pareceres, fazendo o enquadramento do pedido do munícipe na Legislação respetiva, necessária à aprovação da pretensão. Esta questão encontra-se materializada no fluxograma, que pretende representar o percurso de um projeto de licenciamento, desde a entrada na Câmara Municipal, até ao pedido de emissão de alvará de construção de um imóvel. No âmbito da atividade de profissional liberal, são realçadas duas obras inerentes às operações de Urbanização e Edificação. Com a descrição das questões que nortearam estas obras, pretende chamar-se a atenção para as insuficiências nos projetos, que são uma das principais causas dos problemas e conflitos nas construções, podendo por em causa o sucesso da mesma. A elaboração de cada projeto, deve centrar-se não só na construção em si, mas ter em conta outros fatores que são normalmente negligenciados, mas que imprimem um impacto muito significativo no custo de manutenção ao longo do período útil de vida do edifício. De facto, face a esta evidência e ao seu grande peso e influência ao longo de todo o processo construtivo, com tremendas repercussões no desempenho dos diversos intervenientes, impõe-se estabelecer e implementar rotinas e procedimentos que permitam conduzir à elaboração de projetos com melhor qualidade. Neste contexto reveste-se de particular importância a revisão de projeto. Nesse sentido, a revisão de projeto é determinante para a qualidade de um empreendimento, permitindo a eliminação de patologias na construção e correção atempada de potenciais desvios entre o custo estimado de uma obra e o seu custo final, facto geralmente relacionado com os erros e omissões do projeto. A intervenção como coordenador de projeto, projetista da estabilidade e como diretor técnico de obra, permitiu a compatibilização destas áreas salvaguardando manutenções futuras. Uma das experiências que vale a pena realçar, está relacionada com o uso de modelos (“maquetes”) e desenhos em 3D, que permitem obter uma melhor compreensão por parte do executante, reflectindo-se numa melhor contabilização de custos e deteção de erros de projecto, permitindo desde logo uma melhor gestão. Esta implementação dos desenhos e pormenores em 3D, tem o objetivo de demonstrar que o uso do “digital” em 3D, é uma condição economicamente promissora na construção civil. Por algum motivo a tecnologia 3D, é a utilizada há muito tempo, nas indústrias de aeronáutica e automobilismo. No âmbito da experiência no ramo de avaliação de imóveis para uma instituição bancária e avaliações de terrenos da Câmara Municipal, e ainda de expropriações de terrenos particulares em prol de obras públicas, são abordados no presente relatório definições, conceitos e metodologias importantes na avaliação imobiliária. Procurou-se estabelecer a importância numa boa escolha de critérios e variáveis, os quais têm impacto direto no valor dessa mesma avaliação imobiliária. Salienta-se ainda, que as metodologias das avaliações são dinâmicas, ou seja, variam consoante o caso concreto em análise e em função das condições de mercado. Além das atividades já descritas, a reportagem fotográfica que deve ser exercida como forma de acompanhamento das construções, possibilitando catalogar os métodos empregues e as boas normas construtivas, fazem também parte deste relatório. As canções infantis como um recurso didático para o desenvolvimento de ideias matemáticas na Educação Pré-Escolar

O presente Relatório Final de Estágio foi desenvolvido no âmbito do curso de Mestrado em Educação Pré-Escolar e Ensino do 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico para a obtenção do grau de Mestre. Este trabalho está dividido em duas partes fundamentais, mais propriamente uma reflexão crítica sobre as práticas desenvolvidas em contexto de estágio e ainda uma investigação que tem como título “As canções infantis como um recurso didático para o desenvolvimento de ideias matemáticas na Educação PréEscolar”. No que diz respeito à reflexão crítica sobre as práticas, pode referir-se que foi feita uma análise sobre as experiências vividas em contexto de estágio em Educação Pré-Escolar e no 1.º Ciclo do Ensino Básico, tendo em consideração os Padrões de Desempenho Docente. O trabalho de investigação realizado teve como objetivo averiguar as conceções e práticas dos educadores de infância relativamente ao potencial didático das canções infantis na aprendizagem da Matemática, pois através da pesquisa bibliográfica foi possível averiguarmos uma forte conexão entre estas duas áreas e sabemos que na aprendizagem e desenvolvimento das crianças as várias áreas do saber estão fortemente articuladas. Desta forma, foram feitas entrevistas semiestruturadas a alguns educadores de infância, de modo a compreendermos se essa mesma articulação era feita e de que forma. As informações obtidas com esta investigação permitiram-nos conhecer a perspetiva dos educadores de infância relativamente às canções infantis como sendo um recurso didático para o desenvolvimento de ideias matemáticas. Conseguimos concluir que os educadores utilizam frequentemente as canções para a aprendizagem da Matemática.This Final Internship Report was developed within the scope of the master’s course in Pre-School Education and Teaching of the 1st Cycle of Basic Education to obtain a master’s degree. This work is divided into two fundamental parts, more specifically a critical reflection on the practices developed in the internship context and an investigation entitled “Children’s songs as a didactic resource for the development of mathematical ideas in Preschool Education”. With regard to critical reflection on practices, it can be mentioned that an analysis was carried out on the experiences lived in the context of internship in Pre-School Education and in the 1st Cycle of Basic Education, taking into account the Performance Standards Teacher. The research work carried out aimed to investigate the conceptions and practices of kindergarten teachers regarding the didactic potential of children’s songs in the learning of Mathematics, because through the bibliographic research it was possible to verify a strong connection between these two areas and we know that in the learning and development of children the various areas of knowledge are strongly articulated. In this way, semi-structured interviews were carried out with some kindergarten teachers, un order to understand if this same articulation was made and in what way. The information obtained from this investigation allowed us to know the perspective of kindergarten teachers regarding children’s songs as didactic resource for the development of mathematical ideas, we were able to conclude that educators often use songs for learning Mathematics
