Influence of solar activity on hydrological processes

    No full text
International audienceThe relationship between solar activity and the water volumes of lakes is searched here by means of correlational and spectral analysis methods. The level of two lakes, Pátzcuaro in México and Tchudskoye in Russia, together with solar activity indexes are used for the analysis. It is found that the source of the oscillation mechanism of the level of those lakes is the solar activity cycle through its influence on the magnetosphere and the terrestrial atmosphere. The present study allows for the development of long-period prognostic of water volumes of big lakes

How do Continuous Climb Operations affect the capacity of a Terminal Manoeuvre Area?

[EN] Continuous climb operations are the following step to optimise departure trajectories with the goals of minimizing fuel consumption and pollutants and noise emissions in the airports neighbourhood, although due to intrinsic nature of these procedures, the integration of these procedures need to develop a new framework for airline operators and air traffic control. Based on the BADA model developed by EUROCONTROL, three activities have been carried out: simulation of several continuous climbs for three aircraft types (Light, Medium and Heavy), analysation of different applied separations throughout the climb from the runway up to cruise level and, as third activity, definition of new separation minima to ensure that the minimum separations are not violated with this new procedures along the climb. In this work are presented the results of modelling three continuous climb type (constant true airspeed, constant climb angle and constant vertical speed) and new time-based separations for most used models in Palma TMA, which will be the case-study scenario. Finally, this theoretical analysis has been applied to a real scenario in Palma de Mallorca TMA in order to compare how the capacity deals with the introduction of this new procedure to standard departures, standard departures are understood as a departure with a level-off at a determined altitude and with the possibility to be affected by any ATC action. First outcomes are promising because capacity, theoretically, would not be grossly diminished, which could initially be expected based on previous studies on continuous descent approaches, although these results should be considered cautiously due to the fact that the model lacks several factors of associated uncertainty for a real climb. This Project has been developed under the programe “Plan estatal de Innovación Científica y Técnica y de Innovación 2013-201, Programa Estatal de Investigación, Desarrollo e Innovación Orientada a los Retos de la Sociedad: Development and optimization of takeoff and climb procedures for a smarter, sustainable and integrated air transport air transport system” with the collaboration of the Rey Juan Carlos University.Pérez Castán, J.; Gómez Comendador, F.; Arnaldo Valdés, RM. The present study aimed to analyze the content validity of a parental mediation scale in the technologies use by adolescents. Expert judgment was used applying the individual aggregation method. Seven judges with experience in research about parental mediation or digital citizenship participated in the study. The results of the content validity coefficient suggest the non-inclusion of four items in the scale. The new version was conformed of 26 items with adequate content validity. It was concluded that the scale has sufficient evidence of content validity to be used in the measurement of the construct in Mexican adolescent

Decontamination of filtering facepiece respirators using a low-temperature-steam–2%-formaldehyde sterilization process during a pandemic: a safe alternative for re-use

Background The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic has caused problems with respirator supplies. Re-use may minimize the impact of the shortage, but requires the availability of an efficient and safe decontamination method. Aim To determine whether low-temperature-steam–2%-formaldehyde (LTSF) sterilization is effective, preserves the properties of filtering facepiece (FFP) respirators and allows safe re-use. Methods Fourteen unused FFP2, FFP3 and N95 respirator models were subjected to two cycles of decontamination cycles. After the second cycle, each model was inspected visually and accumulated residual formaldehyde levels were analysed according to EN 14180. After one and two decontamination cycles, the fit factor (FF) of each model was tested, and penetration tests with sodium chloride aerosols were performed on five models. Findings Decontamination physically altered three of the 14 models. All of the residual formaldehyde values were below the permissible threshold. Irregular decreases and increases in FF were observed after each decontamination cycle. In the sodium chloride aerosol penetration test, three models obtained equivalent or superior results to those of the FFP classification with which they were marketed, both at baseline and after one and two cycles of decontamination, and two models had lower filtering capacity. Conclusion One and two decontamination cycles using LTSF did not alter the structure of most (11/14) respirators tested, and did not degrade the fit or filtration capacity of any of the analysed respirators. The residual formaldehyde levels complied with EN 14180. This reprocessing method could be used in times of shortage of personal protective equipment

Immune adjuvant effect of V. cholerae O1 derived Proteoliposome coadministered by intranasal route with Vi polysaccharide from Salmonella Typhi

    Get PDF
Proteoliposome derived from Vibrio cholerae O1 (PLc) is a nanoscaled structure obtained by detergent extraction process. Intranasal (i.n) administration of PLc was immunogenic at mucosal and systemic level vs. V. cholerae; however the adjuvant potential of this structure for non-cholera antigens has not been proven yet. The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of coadministering PLc with the Vi polysaccharide antigen (Poli Vi) of S. Typhi by i.n route. The results showed that Poli Vi coadministered with PLc (PLc+Poli Vi) induce higher IgA response in saliva (p0.05) to that induced in a group of mice immunised by parenteral route with the Cuban anti-typhoid vaccine vax-TyVi®, although this vaccine did not induce mucosal response. In conclusion, this work demonstrates that PLc can be used as mucosal adjuvant to potentiate the immune response against a polysaccharide antigen like Poli Vi

Our aim with this paper is to question the typical distinction between «theory», «lab» and «paper and pencil problemsolving» activities. We intend to show that research done on these domains does not support their separation in the teaching/learning process. In fact, this separation does not take place in any real scientific activity
