Present status of pen and cage culture of finfishes in Southeast Asia

    Get PDF
Cage and pen culture practices in certain Southeast Asian countries viz. India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Philippines have been reviewed in this paper The various methods adnpted and materials used in the design and construction of cages and pens and the different species of fishes cultured in these two systems are discussed. The possibilities for adopting pen and cage culture practices for fish production in !ndia are also indicate

A new species of Argulus (Brachiura) from a marine fish Psammoperca waigiensis (Cuvier)

A specimen of ArguluJ taken from the body surface of the marine perch Psammo- perca waigiensis (Cuvier) caught from the Palk Bay near Mandapam has been found to be a new species, and its description is given here. Species and subspecies of the genus Argulus Milller so far recorded from India are A. indieus Weber, A. gigan- teus Ramakrishna, A. bengalen.ri.r Ramakrishna, A. siameni-is Wilson, A. siamensis penin.rulari.r Ramakrishna and A. puthenvelien.ri.r Ramakrishna (see Ramakrishna, 1951, 1962 ) . The postembryonic development of A. puthenvelien.ri.r has been dealt with by Thomas (1961). Thomas & Devaraj (in press) have described two new species, namely A. fluviatili.r and A. cauveriensis collected from the river Cauvery

Predictors of improved clinical outcome following mechanical thrombectomy on South Texas patients with posterior circulation stroke

    Get PDF
The South Texas population is well-acquainted with hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 (DM2), and hyperlipidemia, all well-known risk factors for stroke1. Both anterior and posterior circulation strokes can lead to detrimental life changes, and although posterior circulation, or vertebrobasilar, strokes make up about 20% of all ischemic strokes2, their elusive characteristics often overlap with anterior circulation symptoms. In this study, we study factors that may influence the outcome of patients with posterior circulation stroke (PCS) following successful recanalization using mechanical thrombectomy. In this paper, the clinical outcome is evaluated by the primary endpoint, Modified Rankin Scale (mRS) at discharge. The outcomes (mild, moderate, severe) refer to the degree of severity of clinical impact. The current evidence that is available points towards a general poorer prognosis for recanalization of PCS than anterior circulation strokes (ACS)3. This paper seeks to investigate both patient related factors and treatment related factors that may influence the outcomes of cases PCS following mechanical thrombectomy and offers future direction that can improve our understanding of PCS

Effect the Magnetic field over an inclined stretching sheet of three dimensional Maxwell fluid in obscene of Mixed convection

    Get PDF
Three dimensional flow of Maxwell fluid with boundary condition is investigated. transformations are victimized to reduce the partial differential equations into ordinary differential equations. Effect of two parameters ,Magnatic  field parameter and Deborah number parameter on  non dimensional velocity  are discussed ,homotopy  analysis method(HAM) is used to solve the velocity equations. Keywords: steady flow , Maxwell fluid ,  Magnetic field, HAM solution

Unsteady Magnetohydrodynamics oscillating flow of third order fluid with central free stream velocity

    Get PDF
In this article the unsteady magnetohydrodynamics oscillating flow of third order fluid with free stream velocity is proposed. It is found that the motion equation is controlled by five dimensionless parameters namely the coecostic parameter 4, viscoelostic parameter ?,acceleration/deceleration c,suction/blowing d and material constants ? . The effect of each of these parameters upon the velocity distribution is analysise

Evaluation of antifungal activity of seaweed extract (Turbinaria conoides) against Fusarium oxysporum

    Get PDF
The purpose of the study was to determine the anti fungal activity of seaweed (Turbinaria conoides) extract against root rot pathogen Fusarium oxysporum. Seaweed extract was prepared from the species T. conoides collected from Rameswaram coastal area of Tamil Nadu during December was used for this study. Different concentrations of the extract viz., 5 %, 10 %, 15 % and 20 % was evaluated for their antifungal activity against F. oxysporum using poisoned food technique along with control and carbendazim (0.2 %) as check. No mycelial growth (0 cm) was observed in 15 % and 20 % sea weed extract weed extract treated plates even after 6 days ofincubation. Though the visible inhibition of mycelial growth was noticed in all the concentrations, the increased concentration of 15 and 20 % had shown 100 % inhibition. So, the lower concentration of 15 % can be best in controlling the F. oxysporum fungi. GC-MS analysis of seaweed extract showing the presence of several antimicrobial compounds in seaweeds may be the reason for such inhibition

The impact of OFDI and institutional quality on domestic capital formation at the disaggregated level: Evidence for developed and emerging countries

    Get PDF
In this study, we investigate whether outbound foreign direct investment (OFDI) either augments or impedes domestic public and private investment, incorporating the role of institutional quality into the context of developed and emerging countries. To this end, we apply a cross-sectional-autoregressive-distributed lag (CS-ARDL) approach to analyze panel data from the period 1996-2017. Our empirical findings suggest that OFDI augments private capital formation for developed countries. Institutional quality (IQ) is found to be a driving factor that promotes private capital formation in the established economies of developed countries. However, OFDI has a negative association with the public capital formation in the established economies of developed countries, while IQ has a positive association with it. In the context of emerging economies, OFDI is found to be too insignificant to have an effect on private and public capital formation. Interestingly, IQ has a detrimental effect on both private and public capital formation in emerging economies. Our findings are robust. The empirical findings of this study imply that institutional quality should continue to be improved in developed countries, while it should surpass a certain threshold for emerging economies to promote domestic capital formation. © 2020 by the authors.16ZDA038Funding: This research was funded by the National Social Science Foundation Project of China, grant number 16ZDA038
