The Control System for a new Pixel Detector at the sLHC
For the upgrade of the LHC, the sLHC (super Large Hadron Collider), a new ATLAS Pixel Detector is planned, which will require a completely new control system. To reduce the material budget new power distribution schemes are under investigation, where the active power conversion is located inside the detector volume. Such a new power supply system will need new control strategies. Parts of the control must be located closer to the loads. The minimization of mass, the demand for less cables and the re-use of the outer existing services are the main restrictions to the design of the control system. The requirements of the DCS (Detector Control System) and a first concept will be presented. We will focus on a control chip which necessarily has to be implemented in the new system. A setup of discrete components has been built up to investigate and verify the chip’s requirements. We report on the status of the work
Detector Control System of the ATLAS Insertable B-Layer
soumis à publicationTo improve tracking robustness and precision of the ATLAS inner tracker an additional fourth pixel layer is foreseen, called Insertable B-Layer (IBL). It will be installed between the innermost present Pixel layer and a new smaller beam pipe and is presently under construction. As, once installed into the experiment, no access is available, a highly reliable control system is required. It has to supply the detector with all entities required for operation and protect it at all times. Design constraints are the high power density inside the detector volume, the sensitivity of the sensors against heatups, and the protection of the front end electronics against transients. We present the architecture of the control system with an emphasis on the CO2 cooling system, the power supply system and protection strategies. As we aim for a common operation of pixel and IBL detector, the integration of the IBL control system into the Pixel one will be discussed as well
An Investigation of Hadronization Mechanism at Factory
We briefly review the hadronization pictures adopted in the LUND String
Fragmentation Model(LSFM), Webber Cluster Fragmentation Model(WCFM) and Quark
Combination Model(QCM), respectively. Predictions of hadron multiplicity,
baryon to meson ratios and baryon-antibaryon flavor correlations, especially
related to heavy hadrons at factory obtained by LSFM and QCM are

Jet Quenching in the Opposite Direction of a Tagged Photon in High-Energy Heavy-Ion Collisions
We point out that events associated with large direct photons in
high-energy heavy-ion collisions can be used to study jet energy loss in dense
matter. In such events, the spectrum of charged hadrons from jet
fragmentation in the opposite direction of the tagged photon is estimated to be
well above the background which can be reliably subtracted at moderately large
. We demonstrate that comparison between the extracted fragmentation
function in and collisions can be used to determine the jet energy
loss and the interaction mean-free-path in the dense matter produced in

The Hardware of the ATLAS Pixel Detector Control System
The innermost part of the ATLAS (A Toroidal LHC ApparatuS) experiment will be a pixel detector, built of 1744 individual detector modules. To operate the modules, readout electronics, and other detector components, a complex power supply and control system is necessary. The specific powering and control requirements are described, along with the custom made components of our power supply and control systems. These include remotely programmable Regulator Stations, the power supply system for the optical transceivers, several monitoring units and the Interlock System
Isolated Prompt Photon Production in Hadronic Final States of Annihilation
We provide complete analytic expressions for the isolated prompt photon
production cross section in annihilation reactions through one-loop
order in quantum chromodynamics (QCD) perturbation theory. Functional
dependences on the isolation cone size and isolation energy parameter
are derived. The energy dependence as well as the full angular
dependence of the cross section on are displayed, where
specifies the direction of the photon with respect to the
collision axis. We point out that conventional perturbative QCD
factorization breaks down for isolated photon production in
annihilation reactions in a specific region of phase space. We discuss the
implications of this breakdown for the extraction of fragmentation functions
from annihilation data and for computations of prompt photon

Measurement of the partial widths of the Z into up- and down-type quarks
Using the entire OPAL LEP1 on-peak Z hadronic decay sample, Z -> qbarq gamma
decays were selected by tagging hadronic final states with isolated photon
candidates in the electromagnetic calorimeter. Combining the measured rates of
Z -> qbarq gamma decays with the total rate of hadronic Z decays permits the
simultaneous determination of the widths of the Z into up- and down-type
quarks. The values obtained, with total errors, were Gamma u = 300 ^{+19}_{-18}
MeV and Gamma d = 381 ^{+12}_{-12} MeV. The results are in good agreement with

Bose-Einstein Correlations of Three Charged Pions in Hadronic Z^0 Decays
Bose-Einstein Correlations (BEC) of three identical charged pions were
studied in 4 x 10^6 hadronic Z^0 decays recorded with the OPAL detector at LEP.
The genuine three-pion correlations, corrected for the Coulomb effect, were
separated from the known two-pion correlations by a new subtraction procedure.
A significant genuine three-pion BEC enhancement near threshold was observed
having an emitter source radius of r_3 = 0.580 +/- 0.004 (stat.) +/- 0.029
(syst.) fm and a strength of \lambda_3 = 0.504 +/- 0.010 (stat.) +/- 0.041
(syst.). The Coulomb correction was found to increase the \lambda_3 value by
\~9% and to reduce r_3 by ~6%. The measured \lambda_3 corresponds to a value of
0.707 +/- 0.014 (stat.) +/- 0.078 (syst.) when one takes into account the
three-pion sample purity. A relation between the two-pion and the three-pion

Measurement of Semileptonic Branching Fractions of B Mesons to Narrow D** States
Using the data accumulated in 2002-2004 with the DO detector in
proton-antiproton collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron collider with
centre-of-mass energy 1.96 TeV, the branching fractions of the decays B ->
\bar{D}_1^0(2420) \mu^+ \nu_\mu X and B -> \bar{D}_2^{*0}(2460) \mu^+ \nu_\mu X
and their ratio have been measured: BR(\bar{b}->B) \cdot BR(B-> \bar{D}_1^0
\mu^+ \nu_\mu X) \cdot BR(\bar{D}_1^0 -> D*- pi+) =
(0.087+-0.007(stat)+-0.014(syst))%; BR(\bar{b}->B)\cdot BR(B->D_2^{*0} \mu^+
\nu_\mu X) \cdot BR(\bar{D}_2^{*0} -> D*- \pi^+) =
(0.035+-0.007(stat)+-0.008(syst))%; and (BR(B -> \bar{D}_2^{*0} \mu^+ \nu_\mu
X)BR(D2*0->D*- pi+)) / (BR(B -> \bar{D}_1^{0} \mu^+ \nu_\mu X)\cdot
BR(\bar{D}_1^{0}->D*- \pi^+)) = 0.39+-0.09(stat)+-0.12(syst), where the charge

Search for Large Extra Spatial Dimensions in Dimuon Production with the D0 Detector
We present the results of a search for the effects of large extra spatial
dimensions in collisions at 1.96 TeV in events
containing a pair of energetic muons. The data correspond to 246 \ipb of
integrated luminosity collected by the \D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron
Collider. Good agreement with the expected background was found, yielding no
evidence for large extra dimensions. We set 95% C.L. lower limits on the
fundamental Planck scale between 0.85 TeV and 1.27 TeV within several
formalisms. These are the most stringent limits achieved in the dimuon channel
