The Role of Design Management in Sustainable Building Process

ABSTRACT Sustainable building (SB) brings about the required building performance with minimum adverse environmental impact, while encouraging improvements in economic, social, and cultural aspects. The role of design is essential. During the design materials and construction methods are specified and the setting in which the future occupants will use the building is determined. This paper analyses current design management practices in Finnish construction projects. The aim was to define the challenges that SB brings to the role of the chief designer (stated in the Finnish building code) and to understand how a chief designer contributes towards SB. Study found that the role is defined and practiced mostly as a technical supervisor keeping track that the necessary tasks are taken care of among the design team. General shared definition of a more fundamental meaning of the role is shallow. The means and mechanisms of performing the task rely on social interaction, influencing and leadership. A lot more power and effect could be got out of design management if these would be consciously involved. Sustainable building does not necessarily affect more tasks but it means new substance to be considered in the design decisions. The key impact that the chief designer can make is created through successful leadership of human creative competence

Route optimization for non-stationary air pollution sensors in the City of Antwerp

This work has been undertaken during my stay at Ghent University as an exchange student. I chose the department of Information Technology (INTEC) to do this work because it gave me the opportunity to expand my knowledge of computer science, specifically "Big data", technology currently booming. The work was initially framed around the topic of anomaly detection but then, while approaching the problem and the data available, the focus was shifting towards route optimization for non-stationary sensors in an IoT environment. I thank my promotor, Gregory Van Seghbroeck, for giving me the opportunity to do this work, for his understanding and help when changing the subject. KONFLIK PERKAWINAN DAN MODEL PENYELESAIAN KONFLIK PADA PASANGAN SUAMI ISTRI

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perbedaan intensitas konflik perkawinan pada pasangan suami istri yang tinggal bersama dan yang tinggal terpisah dan cara penyelesaian konfliknya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dan dilengkapi dengan data kualitatif. Jumlah keseluruhan sampel 74 istri, 47 orang yang tinggal bersama suami dan 37 orang yang tinggal terpisah dengan suami. Teknik sampling yang digunakan adalah purposif accidental sampling. Data dianalisis menggunakan uji-t dan analisa diskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan intensitas konflik perkawinan pada istri yang tinggal bersama dan yang tinggal terpisah dengan suami. Model penyelesaian konflik yang banyak digunakan oleh para istri baik yang tinggal bersama suami maupun yang tinggal terpisah lebih banyak yang mengarah konstruktif dalam penyelesaian konflik perkawinan. Ditemukan persepsi berkebalikan. Menurut istri yang tinggal bersama suami, intensitas konflik perkawinan akan lebih tinggi jika istri tinggal bersama suami. Sebaliknya, menurut istri yang tinggal tidak bersama dengan suaminya, intensitas konflik akan lebih tinggi jika istri tidak tinggal bersama suaminya

Turvalliseksi koetun lähiympäristön ohjauksen ja suunnittelun nykytila ja suosituksia

Lähiympäristön turvallisuuteen ja koettuun turvallisuuteen suoraan ja epäsuorasti vaikuttavista tekijöistä on paljon tietoa. Tämän tiedon hyödyntämistä ja soveltamista suunnittelun eri tasoilla tulisi parantaa. Vaikka turvallisuutta painotetaan maankäyttö- ja rakennuslaissa, niin turvallisuuden kokonaisvaltainen huomioonottaminen voi jäädä puutteelliseksi ja painottua palo-, käyttö- ja rakenteellisen turvallisuuden aspekteihin. Koettu turvallisuus tulisi nykyistä systemaattisemmin ottaa huomioon erityisesti lähiympäristösuunnitelmissa, tontinluovutusehdoissa ja julkisten toimijoiden kiinteistöstrategioissa. Turvallisuusarvioinnin ja osallistamisen keinovalikoima on laaja. Kyselyt ja kävelyt, tiedottaminen, yhdessä suunnittelu ja omaan lähiympäristöön liittyvä päätöksenteko ovat kaikki tärkeitä keinoja, joiden käyttöä suomalaisen yhteiskunnan turvallisuuden varmistamisessa kannattaa jatkaa.
