Consumer Wellbeing in Asia: Introduction to the Special Issue

Get PDF
Consumer wellbeing refers to safety, fairness, satisfaction, sustainability, emotional positivity, security, freedom, and healthfulness which may be sought through consumer products and services obtained from marketplaces. Consumer wellbeing can be measured in various dimensions such as economic, financial, physical, psychological, social, and culture. This special issue focuses on consumer issues in fast changing Asia as many important consumer issues in Asia are under-studied in comparison to the literature about the West. With Asia having a large, 60% of the world population and Asian countries are highly diverse in terms of economic developments, social systems, and cultural traditions, many important issues related to consumer spending, health, and finance need be investigated and studied. Such research will enrich the global literature of consumer affairs and inform public policies to advance consumer interests

[For the English abstract and full text of the article please see the attached PDF-File (English version follows Russian version)].ABSTRACT The authors assess the current state and problems of Myanmar’s transport infrastructure. A list of tasks has been determined, the solution of which will significantly improve its condition, help to achieve inclusion of the country’s transport system in the international transport network and significantly improve trade turnover with China and countries of Southeast Asia. Priority actions in private and public sectors of the economy are named, the implementation of which will lead to development of existing and formation of new trade routes.

Unraveling the personalization paradox: The effect of information collection and trust-building strategies on online advertisement effectiveness

Retailers gather data about customers' online behavior to develop personalized service offers. Greater personalization typically increases service relevance and customer adoption, but paradoxically, it also may increase customers' sense of vulnerability and lower adoption rates. To demonstrate this contradiction, an exploratory field study on Facebook and secondary data about a personalized advertising campaign indicate sharp drops in click-through rates when customers realize their personal information has been collected without their consent. To investigate the personalization paradox, this study uses three experiments that confirm a firm's strategy for collecting information from social media websites is a crucial determinant of how customers react to online personalized advertising. When firms engage in overt information collection, participants exhibit greater click-through intentions in response to more personalized advertisements, in contrast with their reactions when firms collect information covertly. This effect reflects the feelings of vulnerability that consumers experience when firms undertake covert information collection strategies. Trust-building marketing strategies that transfer trust from another website or signal trust with informational cues can offset this negative effect. These studies help unravel the personalization paradox by explicating the role of information collection and its impact on vulnerability and click-through rates

Aims to understand the fundamental concept of good PCB layout for electromagnetic interference (EMI) radiation control. Three different layouts based on a similar digital circuit are fabricated for EMI measurements. Through analyzing the measured results, the importance of good PCB layout practices for EMI radiation control is demonstrated.Master of Science (Consumer Electronics

Estimation of Hourly Link Population and Flow Directions from Mobile CDR

The rise in big data applications in urban planning and transport management is now widening and becoming a part of local government decision-making processes. Understanding people flow inside the city helps urban and transport planners build a healthy and lively city. Many flow maps are based on origin-and-destination points with crossing lines, which reduce the map’s readability and overall appearance. Today, with the emergence of geolocation-enabled handheld devices with wireless communication and networking capabilities, human mobility and the resulting events can be captured and stored as text-based geospatial big data. In this paper, we used one-week mobile-call-detail records (CDR) and a GIS road network model to estimate hourly link population and flow directions, based on mobile-call activities of origin⁻destination pairs with a shortest-path analysis for the whole city. Moreover, to gain the actual population size from the number of mobile-call users, we introduced a home-based magnification factor (h-MF) by integrating with the national census. Therefore, the final output link data have both magnitude (actual population) and flow direction at one-hour intervals between 06:00 and 21:00. The hourly link population and flow direction dataset are intended to optimize bus routes, solve traffic congestion problems, and enhance disaster and emergency preparedness

Analyzing Road Coverage of Public Vehicles According to Number and Time Period for Installation of Road Inspection Systems

Shortages of engineers and financial resources have made it difficult for municipalities to identify and address problems with aging road infrastructures. To resolve these problems, numerous studies have focused on automating road inspection, including a study in which we developed a smartphone-based road inspection system. For efficient operation of the system, it is necessary to understand the usage of vehicles in which the system will be installed. In this study, we analyzed the usage of public vehicles with long-term global positioning system (GPS) probe data collected from public vehicles operating in Kakogawa city and Fujisawa city in Japan. As a result, we discovered that local governments of the same size have similar tendencies in terms of road coverage. Moreover, we found that installing road inspection systems on only a few public vehicles can cover the entire road inspection area. We anticipate that these results will assist local governments in making informed decisions during the system introduction process and provide an indicator of the accuracy required for road inspection systems to future researchers

ONLINE FILE ACCESS AND AUTHENTICATION SYSTEM IN CAMPUS NETWORK

The organizational systems are replaced with thecomputer networking system all over the worl d. Filesystems are responsible for the organization, storage, retrieval, naming, sharing and protection of files. Thesystem mainly uses the network fi le system for onlinefile accessed in campus network. It is implemented tocheck the user allowed time a nd access permissionfor the files and folders in the system. Also it isessential to implement security measures to avoid theaccess by unauthorized users. In this system, securityis the key to authenticate client requests so thataccess control at the s erver is based on the correctuser identities and to protect the contents of files andfolders with encrypted passwords. The system usedpassword hashing process to get the hashedpassword for authorized users of the system. So,Message Digest 5 (MD 5) is used to create hash ofpasswords allowing an encrypted form of passwordto be sent over network or stored in file system. Therefore, this file accessed system is useful foreveryone who wants to access its own files tomultiple users in the local area network
