    Towards automation of user interface design

    This paper suggests an approach to automatic software design in the domain of graphical user interfaces. There are still some drawbacks in existing user interface management systems (UIMS's) which basically offer only quantitative layout specifications via direct manipulation. Our approach suggests a convenient way to get a default graphical user interface which may be customized and redesigned easily in further prototyping cycles

    Statistical Basics of a Reliable World Wide Web Peer to Peer Storage System

    Peer-to-peer networks are highly distributed and unreliable networks. Peers log in and off the network at their own needs without any overall plan. In the real peer-to-peer case there are no central nodes planning the resources of the network or having an overview about the state of the network. The paper on hand describes and mathematically analyzes a storage algorithm allowing information to be stored within the network without the originator of the information needs to stay online. Information is optimally “blurred” within the network meaning that the information is reconstructable with a high probability and a long time interval, but stored as least redundant as possible. The main focus is to analyze the mathematical and statistical properties of the presented peer-to-peer storage algorithm. Technical procedures are described at a high level and need further improvement. Thus, the paper on hand is primarily purely statistically peer-to-peer theory at this stage of research

    Adaptation and Psychometric Evaluation of the Young Diagnostic Questionnaire (YDQ) for Parental Assessment of Adolescent Problematic Internet Use

    Background and aims The surge of problematic Internet use in adolescents is a continuously growing problem across the globe. To our knowledge, to date valid questionnaire-based measurement of problematic Internet use is possible only by self-assessment. The objective for the present study was to adapt an established instrument for a parental assessment of adolescent problematic Internet use and to evaluate the psychometric properties of this questionnaire. Methods Data were collected from a representative German sample of 1,000 parents of adolescents aged between 12 and 17 years using a standardized questionnaire. To assess problematic Internet use, we adapted the established Young Diagnostic Questionnaire by rewording the items to survey a parental rating instead of a self-report (“Parental version of the Young Diagnostic Questionnaire,” PYDQ). Additionally, we assessed the Internet usage time, parental monitoring, family functioning, school performance of the adolescent, and parent–adolescent conflicts. We conducted a confirmatory factor analysis based on the 8 items of the PYDQ modeled as categorical indicators and one latent factor using a robust weighted least squares estimator. We also calculated a reliability coefficient, the acceptance of the instrument, and performed correlation analyses. Results The unidimensional model showed excellent global goodness-of-fit (χ2/df = 1.65, RMSEA = 0.03, CFI = 0.99, TLI = 0.99) and satisfactory factor loadings (standardized values ranged from 0.60 to 0.77). We observed a reliability coefficient of 0.70, a good acceptance of the instrument, and the correlation analyses indicated the construct validity of the PYDQ. Discussion and conclusion The proposed PYDQ is a suitable instrument for parental assessment of adolescent problematic Internet use

    OpenVSLAM: A Versatile Visual SLAM Framework

    In this paper, we introduce OpenVSLAM, a visual SLAM framework with high usability and extensibility. Visual SLAM systems are essential for AR devices, autonomous control of robots and drones, etc. However, conventional open-source visual SLAM frameworks are not appropriately designed as libraries called from third-party programs. To overcome this situation, we have developed a novel visual SLAM framework. This software is designed to be easily used and extended. It incorporates several useful features and functions for research and development.     Independent Control of Metal Cluster and Ceramic Particle Characteristics During One-step Synthesis of Pt/TiO2

    Rapid quenching during flame spray synthesis of Pt/TiO2 (0-10 wt% Pt) is demonstrated as a versatile method for independent control of support (TiO2) and noble metal (Pt) cluster characteristics. Titania grain size, morphology, crystal phase structure, and crystal size were analyzed by nitrogen adsorption, electron microscopy and x-ray diffraction, respectively, while Pt-dispersion and size were determined by CO-pulse chemisorption. The influence of quench cooling on the flame temperature was analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Increasing the quench flow rate reduced the Pt diameter asymptotically. Optimal quenching with respect to maximum Pt-dispersion (∼60%) resulted in average Pt diameters of 1.7 to 2.3 nm for Pt-contents of 1-10 wt%, respectivel
